Sheer acting talent and international appeal. That's what matter the most in our top 50 young actors list.

The same applies in this updated rankings, but let me just add a few equally important points- The most talented young actors are those who relish doing difficult and risky roles and look forward working with the best filmmakers. tMF dislikes young actors who talk too much and will do just about anything to stay in the limelight. Let the performance speak for itself.

Age Limit- How young is young? The last time I checked, we've decided not to include Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, James Franco and Cillian Murphy because of their age. Now as I look at the previous top 10, I see some favorites that I have to let go... I mean, Gael Garcia Bernal is not that young anymore, right? The roles he used to play in Amores Perros and Y Tu Mama Tambien are just not right for him anymore. The same applies to James McAvoy and Daniel Bruhl. It's like 'been there, done that' sort of thing...

tMF's concept behind the rankings: Our ranking system is fairly simple- a big part goes to the actors' best performances to date and the awards or nominations received from these roles. Another major part goes to future movie projects, which also considers the 'prestige' of the role, and the filmmakers attached to it. A third part of the rankings- the smallest part is all about the kind of buzz the actors get, including the presence and proliferation of fansites, activity on fan boards, online interviews and other media events that they took part in. One last part- that's my own intuition and which I call the 'X-factor' which relies heavily on gut feeling. Once you've watch someone on the big screen, and something 'registers', you just know there is something special about that actor!

[ Get to know more about the mechanics in choosing the top 50 here. ]

Here's the Top 10-

- - -

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #11 on the previous list.

Best acting performance: His definitive portrayal as the young Dito Montiel in A Guide to Recognizing your Saints.

Why he made the top 50: I'm not that impressed with LaBeouf's acting talents, but I am with his ability to play the Hollywood game. While he admits, he's not your usual 'Hollywood idol type of guy', he certainly has proven time and again that given a good enough role where he can sink his teeth and involve himself in some serious character study, he can show some amazing results.

The biggest factor that puts him into the Top 10 is his ability to draw crowds into the movie houses. A lot of young audience certainly look at Shia as one of their favorite young stars, but not necessarily their favorite young actor.

- - -

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #4 on the previous list.

Best acting performances: Hirsch certainly made a good number of breakthrough performances, but I have to say his role in Sean Penn's Into The Wild is his best so far- as adventurer Chris McCandless. Also worth mentioning is his role in Imaginary Heroes as the younger son of Jeff Daniels and Sigourney Weaver, the emotionally traumatized Tim Travis.

Why he made the top 50: Together with Joe Levitt and Jake Gyllenhaal, he is the only Hollywood-based young actor who can compete with the current onslaught of young actors from across the Atlantic, most notably the current crop of talented British actors led by the likes of Jim Sturgess, Robert Pattinson and Ben Whishaw, to name a few. Here's what we said before of Emile, and it certainly applies to this day:

He is everybody’s dreamboy- young, gorgeous and handsome. As Sedgewick Bell in The Emperor’s Club he charmed his way into our hearts. But as Duncan in The Mudge Boy he brought in a certain vulnerability into his character that we’re utterly convinced he’s no ordinary young actor. Hirsch continues to amaze and at this moment, he is Hollywood’s most promising young lead actor.

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #13 on the previous list.

Best acting performances: Of all the young actors, Jamie Bell is the most consistent. I have never seen a bad performance from Bell. Among his movies, I would ranked his performance as Billy Elliot to be his finest ever. I would watch this movie even now and would have the same kind of enthusiasm and excitement. His recent movie, Hallam Foe (Mr. Foe), ranks a close second, followed by his powerful portrayal as the young teen Chris Munn in David Gordon Green's Undertow.

Why he made the top 50: For obvious reasons, tMF considers Jamie Bell as one of today's most exciting and talented young actors. Even in his recent movie Jumper, where he played second lead to the less talented and boring Hayden Christensen, he went on to win critical acclaim.

He is also fiercely independent and quite honest with his opinions:

I go because that's where the work is, but I like, use and abuse. I fly in for the meetings, and then fly out. That community is really small, so everybody knows each other. I kind of don't like that. It's not really a community I feel very welcome in." says the actor about Hollywood.

- - -

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #1 on the previous list.

Best acting performances: I'm afraid some of you have not seen Half-Nelson yet. I would certainly encourage you to see it, and judge for yourself what sort of acting Ryan Gosling is capable of. But I'm pretty sure you've already seen The Notebook and you know for a fact that he is an awesome actor, and playing the romantic interest of Rachel McAdams certainly added more excitement to it. But there's another indie movie that really made me realize the calibre of Ryan Gosling in terms of acting vis-a-vis the best in the industry: as Danny Balint in The Believer.

Why he made the top 50: He was ranked #7 only because he is in somewhat of a 'hiatus'. His next projects are still in production and will be shown most probably next year. I certainly look forward to All Good Things where he is cast alongside Kristen Dunst.

- - -

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #9 on the previous list.

Best acting performances: His Oscar nominated role in Brokeback Mountain is certainly his best role so far. As Jack Twist, he brought so much credibility into the character, it completely complements the emotional pain and anguish of Ennis del Mar, played by the late Heath Ledger. Coming in second is the cult hit, Donnie Darko where he played the title character. Also worth mentioning is David Fincher's Zodiac where Jake plays Robert Graysmith, who happens to be the author where the movie was based.

Why he made the top 50: He is probably the most identified among the young actors as a 'celebrity'. But while he is part of the celebrity circle where paparazzi like to hunt and intrude upon, Jake has certainly made the best of it. His sense of humour while guesting in some of America's biggest talk shows certainly made him a household name, but while some of these household names are being dismissed as having no talent, Jake is that rare exception. I certainly look forward to his next movie, Brothers, with Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman, definitely a great showcase of young talents!

- - -

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #18 on the previous list.

Best acting performances: In My Brother Tom, Ben Whishaw provided us with a glimpse into the future. Here is one of the UK's most promising young talents at his finest. A few years later, he plays Jean Baptiste Grenouille, the perfumer and murderer in Tom Tykwer's Perfume, one of the most expensive movies ever produced in Germany. Just this year, he added another dimension to his on-screen persona by playing Lord Sebastian Flyte in the latest adaptation of Brideshead Revisited.

Why he made the top 50: If acting is an exciting adventure (and it certainly is), then you’ll expect Ben Whishaw to be the first to take a ride. Armed with a certain beauty even his male co-stars admit, there is no limit to what Ben can do. One example that comes to mind is in one of his supporting roles in Layer Cake, during the scene at the disco bar with Sienna Miller and Daniel Craig. While all the actors are great looking, it was Ben who steals the show.

Looking forward to one of tMF's most anticipated films, Jane Campion's Brightstar where he plays poet John Keats.

- - -

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #33 on the previous list.

Best acting performances: His intense and credible portrayal as a British Government spy in Fifty Dead Men Walking would certainly give Jim Sturgess some extra mileage come award season, but he's already a big winner on our list. Very few actors can sing and act with credibility, but Jim Sturgess managed to produce an amazing performance in Julie Taymor's Across The Universe, where Jim played one of the leads, Jude.

Why he made the top 50: As a big fan of young and emerging talents, Jim Sturgess is the kind of actor that really made such an impression on me. If you've only seen him on the pages of magazines or catch him in a couple of youtube trailers, then you're not prepared to see him on the big screen and the kind of presence he can project. Movies, after all, are all about projections and make believe. Sturgess is probably the UK's most exciting import and would even surpass the critical success enjoyed by his fellow Brits who conquered Hollywood even before him.

- - -

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #5 on the previous list.

Best acting performances: After a hustling gig that turned violent, we see Neil (Gordon-Levitt) silently licking his wounds as he stared at his bruises and cuts, silently he cries – he must have realized he’s all alone and that there’s no one to help him or even listen to him… Such was the performance of Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Greg Arakki’s Mysterious Skin, that almost all critics agreed- Levitt is the young actor to watch! Of course, Levitt is no ‘one-movie wonder’, as Brick from director Rian Johnson proves.

"Most scripts are bad. I read a lot of them. "Brick" was a good script just to read. It was like, 'Oh my God, these words feel so good in my mouth.' A lot of movies try to set up a world with cool sets, costumes, camera work. In "Brick," the world is born from the words."

Why he made the top 50: He's a better actor than Jake Gyllenhaal or Emile Hirsch for that matter. He can play a credible and exciting romantic lead better than Ryan Philippe or James Marsden for that matter.

While he reminds me of Heath Ledger, and there is certainly some striking resemblance, Gordon-Levitt is someone who has proven himself as an actor's actor. There is one particular movie that I would love to watch Joe Levitt, and I just think this will be one of his finest ever- The Frog King.

- - -

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #7 on the previous list.

Best acting performances: Aside from Strayed where he played the mysterious teen Jean Delgas (Yvan), he was also noted for his role as Manech, the long lost lover of Audrey Tautou in A Very Long Engagement. But for me, his best performance as an emerging talent is in Jacquo le Croquant. I have always been a big fan of French films and have seen some of the early movies of Alain Delon and Jean Paul Belmondo. I would dare say, Gaspard is certainly capable of matching these old acting legends in terms of charm, talent and popularity.

Why he made the top 50: Representing the new wave of French leading men, Gaspard Ulliel has both the looks and the talent to make it big in the world stage. Nominated three times for Most Promising Male Newcomer at the César Awards, the former male model's acting career is just taking off.

Watch out for Gaspard as he plays the angel Xas in Niki Caro's big screen adaptation of Elizabeth Knox's The Vintner's Luck coming soon in 2009!

- - -

- - -

Top 50 status: Ranked #19 on the previous list.

Best acting performance: In Oliver Irving's How To Be, the main character Art comes to life courtesy of Robert Pattinson. It's funny how some actors can surprise you with their interpretation of certain characters, especially if you're a fan and has already made up your own perception of the actor. It's hard to be funny and tragic all at the same time, with almost the same degree of intensity. In this movie, Pattinson did all that. Here's an excerpt of our latest interview with the filmmaker:

I love the scene with Rob speaking to himself in the mirror near the end. Rob kind of feeds off his surroundings. When the set has the right mood he works with it very well. Here the room felt completely right (we barely dressed it – it was a real room behind the stage) and he just captured that little moment of stillness in a way which I think is really touching – and kind of strange and funny too. The shot at the car boot sale was similar. Rob channeled the grimness of the location and the weather into his performance and really got across how low and lost the character is at that point, just with his body language and expression.

Why he made the top50: tMF prides itself with discovering and putting the spotlight on young actors that are 'under the radar'. We have long discovered Ben Whishaw, Gaspard Ulliel and James McAvoy even before they went on to become fixtures on many of the net's biggest movie news sites. In the case of Robert Pattinson, we are not only sending a big message that we're putting the spotlight on Rob, but we're telling his fans- it's now high time to celebrate!

Watch out for Rob in the upcoming Twilight as he plays the vampire Edward Cullen. But come hell or higher water, be sure to put in your calendar a date when you'll watch him as Salvador Dali in Little Ashes!

Go Robert Pattinson! I am SO happy that he got the #1 spot- he completely deserves it. Ive been keeping track of these top 50 listings, and as his name kept not showing up on the lists, I hoped he would be on the top 10- and then, when i was reading this and scrolling down, and i still kept not seeing his name, i began to hope he would be #1- and he was! This is SO awesome, but also very well-deserved, and I knew (or at least suspected) that if tmf did these listings right he would be 1st- after all, he's got it all, but still, actually seeing it is different than just suspecting, and I am so happy smilies/smiley.gif.

I'd disagree with Gaspard as No 2 - much lower down in my view but hey I'm VERY VERY happy with Pattinson as No 1.

Can I also query how Sturgess isnt No 1 if he is the UK's most exciting import and not Pattinson?

Robert Pattinson takes #1 spot!
THIS is what I've been waiting for. As I scrolled through the top 10 actors on this page, I swear I think I sighed aloud. It's a really great list.

Obviously, the most important to mention, is Robert. He's now award winning, having snagged the Best Actor in a Feature for his role in How To Be at the Strasbourg Film Festival. He's worked with award winning, as Paul Morrison, director of Little Ashes, has won many awards for his films, and was even nominated for an Oscar.

He chooses his roles carefully, going after good scripts and working with good talent, always hoping to learn from his peers.

And the Buzz around him is unbelievable. Four films on their way to being released: How To Be, Little Ashes, Twilight, and the short film The Summerhouse. Not to mention the possibility of working with Dennis Hopper and Olivia Thirlby in the rumored film Parts Per Billion.

I was hoping, and really it shouldn't be a surprise, that Robert would take the #1 spot on this fantastic site and very 'wow-worthy' list. I think it's entirely justified to say, as someone who's been watching his career and has always marveled at the talent he possesses, that I'm quite proud of him. I cannot wait to see the continued acclaim he receives for more of him in How To Be, and especially for the acclaim that will come his way as Little Ashes makes its way through the film festival circuit and then hopefully to theatres.

Thank you tMF for always recognizing not only talent in general, but this talent especially!

Ok...now I can talk about the other actors!
I'm obviously thrilled with this list! After my praise and thanks at Robert taking the #1 spot, I didn't want to leave out my thoughts on the rest of the list...

First off, I love it! I feel I have to agree with most of the list. Again, I haven't seen Gaspard in anything yet, but will have to, I know. But Joseph Gordon Levitt at #3? That's fantastic, another versatile talent. Jake is always amazing, and I'm glad his role in Zodiac was mentioned...Jim Sturgess! I like him more and more the more I see him in his films and the more I hear about his from his fans. He seems an all around great guy, and definitely worthy of this list. Ryan Gosling, of course. I hear about him more and more, and it isn't just about the Notebook, which goes to show how his name is growing. Ben, Jamie, and Emile I haven't seen enough of, but have been witnessing the buzz and acclaim that come attached to their names recently, and I look forward to seeing more of their projects. And Shia. Talk about Buzz! Big blockbusters, he's got 'em. I hope to see him in something smaller, something to display more acting less, well, running...but he definitely deserves to be where he is.

Thank you, again, for a fabulous Top 50...but an especially exciting and worthy Top 10!!

Thank you, tMF!
I couldn't wait to check this site today to see if the top 10 was posted (wow...what does that say about me?!) ~ and hip, hip, hooray that Robert Pattinson was your number 1! Like so many others, though I'm in the over-30 crowd, I'm so happy to see Rob making his way with some fabulous film choices. Thank you, tMF, for picking up the vibe! smilies/smiley.gif

Congrats to all on this list-you've chosen well. I do question how you can include Ryan Gosling and Jake Gyllenhall, but leave off James McAvoy-not much older, Jed-and a better actor, but I guess he can stay on MY listsmilies/smiley.gif. My favorite part of this list is the wealth of movies that I have yet to see-I need to get busy!

Robert Pattinson!!!
So happy he's number ONE! He's such a good actor there are no words to explain his performances or acting. LOVE ROB!

Gaspard really deserves to be the #2. He's one of the most talented actors ever.

Rob at the top!
I can't stop smiling. Thank you so much Jed for this wonderful list. I'm especially happy with Robert Pattinsons’ rank. No.1 is indeed where he belongs. This just made my day. I Want to thank TMF for all the wonderful support and love that’s been shown to Robert and his fans in the last few months. It’s greatly appreciated.
Pris , September 30, 2008
...
Not really sure about your logic in not including James McAvoy on your list. Jake Gyllenhaall and Ryan Gosling are his age but THEY weren't considered too old. If it's arbitrary, like under 30...he isn't 30 yet. If it's that you think there's enough that's been written about him, I beg to differ. And as attractive and talented as all the fellas you chose are, no-one on your list can morph like McAvoy. I realize that the world has been going ape for James McAvoy a whole, what, YEAR now? It's unfortunate that this apparently is about as long as one is allowed "hot, new actor" status. He's deffinitely #1 on my list of 50 Hottest Young Actors and his omission on yours is glaring.
Nez , September 30, 2008
Jim Sturgess!!
He is deffinitely one of best young actors today.
Thank you,tMF,for this great list!

Gaspard Ulliel is really talented. You should see his french films. I think Joseph Gordon Levitt should be number one though. He is the most talented actor in my opinion, plays every sort of film without becoming a 'celebrity' and is just awesome.

...
It's so good to see actors like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jim Sturgess and especially(my personal favorite) Jamie Bell move up in the ranks. I feel like they're more appreciated in the indie circuit than they are in mainstream and it's a shame.
edelweiss , September 30, 2008
...
WOHOO! Its great that people are finally recognising his talent and are not comparing him to Cedric any more. He's the next British Star!
Kerrie , September 30, 2008
Jed is on top of the BUZZ!
I think you are the only guy writing about films that acknowledges Pattinson at all, let alone has researched his other roles besides Harry Potter.

Like some site that recently posted their list of 20 Hot Young Actors. He got bombarded with fans of Pattinson, wondering why he was left off the list. He then basically chided, and classified the fans (who articulately explained their reasoning behind why they like Pattinson, acting-wise) as 14 year old Twilight fans. Even though he ASKED fans to add someone he didn't have on the list! Talk about condescending.

Thank you for taking the actor seriously, and for doing what so many of these bloggers don't do. Research! smilies/smiley.gif

Shia? Seriously?
Other than that, the list isn't horrible. I've seen various roles played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and I definitely agree with that pick. Mysterious Skin was shiver-worthy. I believed everything that came out of his mouth.

Glad to see Rob at No 1. I wish more of his work was now available for the doubters to see how wonderful he is.
Lorna , September 30, 2008
a list that doesn't make me cringe finally!
Love this list! Joseph Gordon-Levitt is always so passed over for guys with half his talent, and I think Jamie Bella is AMAZING. And I love him more for using and abusing Hollywood..lol

And finally, Robert Pattinson...yeah, for a someone talking about his talent for once instead of how beautiful he is(I mean he is, but he's more than that).

I think he's going to surprise the heck out of people with future roles he takes on--I think he's going to have a career that's quirky and interesting for a guy with such matinee idol looks.
nina , September 30, 2008
Go Robert!!!
No surprise about Robert Pattinson. I'm not a 14 year old Twilight fan, so his fan base is much bigger than that. I can't wait to see his career unfold.

I'm also happy to see Emile Hirsch and Joseph Gordon-Levitt on your list.
Thalia , September 30, 2008
...
Yeah, Joseph Gordon-Levitt blew me away in BRICK. Great film with one of most unusual scripts I've ever seen. Very powerful.

Great job!

I also like that kid that was in Alpha Dog. The one that got kidnapped? He really moved me with his acting, for such a young guy. What is that kid's name? Ugh!

And some people thought Daniel Radcliffe would beat Robert Pattinson! *psh* I was like, "Whatever." Rob's DEFINITELY hottest!!!!!!

But that Gaspard Ulliel guy is so not hot enough to be # 2.

I love Robert Pattinson!
Robert Pattinson's so awesome. He's so gorgeous and *dazzling*.

And NO, I'm not a fourteen year old Twilight fanatic....I'm a fifteen year old Twilight fanatic, but that doesn't matter!!

Robert Pattinson is so sweet and charming and honorable. And gorgeous. And I wouldn't be surprised if he sparkled in the sun.

That dork Gaspard shouldn't, in my opinion, be in the top ten, but I'm willing to ignore him with Rob's face right there at number one.

14?
Just curious as to which listing dismissed Rob Pattinson's fans as 14 y.o. Twilight fans? Flip that number, and you've got me. smilies/smiley.gif He's just a wonderful actor; I actually think Twilight is more likely to hurt than help him in terms of respect for that fact, no matter how interesting he makes the character of Edward Cullen (and, yes, I expect this to be more than the one-note pretty boy the fangirlz are wanting). He's one to watch.

OMFG! Uve gotta be kidding me!!
OMFG!
Give me a god damned break. Okay? Twi-hard hate me if you must, but Robert Pattinson is NOT hot, Okay? Plain, straight out - NO!. He was a second rate character in Harry potter and uh, FYI, the guy said he probably wouldnt even have a job after Twilight, Dont beleive me? Check http://www.seventeen.com/datin...n-17q-0508 Anyway. He NEVER looks good in any of his out-and-about shoots, he looks like he hasnt showered in days and the five-o-clock shadow is the most unnattractive thing i've ever seen on a guy. (No, im not some fat looser, Im actually happily engaged, and uh, definately not fat!!) And it seems just because this wanna-be happened to score the lead in Twilight (though when I read the books I try like HELL to block his mug outta my mind!) He's the hot new thang? God. Seriously, open your eyes, man isnt hot.
Now Gaspard Ulliell or Cam Gigandet, Kellan Lutz or Jackson Rathbone? Someone with ACTUAL looks and an ACTUAL personality, thank you.

On another note.
I would actually like to comment on the "fan girls" who attack poor Gaspard for some people seeing him as a candidate for Edward, did the guy ask for this, No. So tell me, what right do you small brained-feeble minded little "Twi-harders" have to critisise someone that, to some people would be a good choice? He is a good and talented actor, his roles are moving and he shows true potential. I think its personally completely pathetic not to mention un called for and shameful. Just like the attacks made on Russell Brand for the MVA incident, you think you're fandom for "PATTINSON" gives you an unspoken right to attack anyone that challenges him? Well to be quite honest I hope someone knocks him off his big-headed pedestal before we have another Brad Pitt on our hands - But English this time. The man MAY, and a big MAY on that one be a good actor but to be honest I do think there are better deserved people out there who deserve the awards he'd won because of Twilight. Its amazing how one book can seem to give you the right to express a harsh and no doubt hurtful opinion on people.. Then this may be a fandom I wish to bow out of. Because heaven forbid I should become a hairbrained little bimbo who clearly follows a "hype" rather than talent.
PaintedAngel , September 30, 2008
More than just Buzz...
"A third part of the rankings- the smallest part is all about the kind of buzz the actors get" - This seems like the most important part as R.Pattinson is #1
Kathy789 , September 30, 2008

I have to differ a bit...

Factor#1: Talent agents' favorites and those making waves in theater and recent high-profile movies

Twilight and Rob's role in it would fall into the category of 'making waves in theater and recent high profile movies.' There's the first comparison.

Factor #2: Consistency, the ability to resist being typecast and saying no to stupid roles!

This could be considered a matter of opinion, however anyone who has seen all of the films Rob has been in, and compared all the characters he's played, no one could accuse him of being typecast and no 'stupid roles' as of yet.

Factor#3: Never, ever underestimate the power and influences of a fandom

I think we know he has a fandom...enough said there! smilies/cheesy.gif

Factor#4: The buzz from across the Atlantic: The UK's Stars of Tomorrow

Yup...definitely got that!

Factor#5: The thrill from Europe: a distinguish film reviewer speaks

So far, nothing but great reviews for How To Be, and the one review so far for Little Ashes also praised him.

And more contributing factors:

1. Future film projects: The more prestigious the project, the better.

Little Ashes...very prestigious as director Paul Morrison is an Academy Award Nominee and Rob is playing Salvador Dali. And How To Be and Twilight have the buzz and hype.

2. Recognition from his peers and major awards received (or nominated for)

So much recognition from peers...especially from fellow actors in Little Ashes and Twilight. To Directors like Mike Newell, Chris Durlacher, Paul Morrison, and Catherine Hardwicke always having positive and well, sometimes down-right fabulous things to say about him.

Oh, and his recent 'Best Actor in a Feature' Win at the Strasbourg Film Festival in Paris...that probably helped a good bit as well.

3. The Buzz from fans and the media

Yes, Rob has this in spades...

4. Outstanding performances in previous movies

Matter of opinion again, yes. But, again, for those who have seen all his past performances will agree, they were pretty outstanding from his small yet oh-so-memorable role in Harry Potter, to his two British films The Haunted Airman and The Bad Mother's Handbook...two very outstanding performances...in my humble opinion!

Whew! Sorry...I did actually mean for this to be shorter! But there were so many factors to consider!! Oh, and they can be found here, in case anyone missed them at the top of the article:

PaintedAngel...on Gaspard
There are a two comments who merely disagree with Gaspard as #2...and there are two other comments who say 'he's so not hot' or 'ugly,' etc...

Luckily there's been no 'attack' on Gaspard but maybe the one person who called him 'ugly,' which sounds like an opinion to me...much like your opinion on Pattinson as 'not hot' and 'not the next new hot thang' or whatever...also much like your opinion that he 'NEVER looks good out and about...' - all opinions of...what, attack?

Many have said that they like Gaspard...talented, good looking etc...just because more people like Pattinson doesn't seem like a good reason to call their opinions an 'attack.'

But then, that's just my opinion...

Robert Pattinson: Perfect choice for #1 spot
PaintedAngel: I disagree with you. I believe it is unfair to generalize the Twilight fandom by calling them "small brained-feeble minded little 'Twi-harders'" and "hairbrained little bimbos who clearly follow a 'hype' rather than talent." Quite frankly, it is not true of every Twilight fan and I find it shocking that you have the audacity to insult people that you have never met in that way.

I happen to find Rob very attractive, and I love his personality. I understand that some people may not like him, and that is totally fine, being that it is a matter of opinion. Some people are fans of Rob, others fans of Gaspard, some fans of both, and some fans of neither.

People will always have their opinions of others, celebrities included. That doesn't make it okay or right to bash them, but unfortunately it does and will continue to happen. It is just a fact of life. Certain people insulting a celebrity shouldn't represent the behavior of the fandom as a whole.

Commenting on "fan girls" attacking Gaspard, when you previously bashed Robert (for his looks none the less) is quite hypocritical don't you think?

Maybe you don't realize that some people are fans of Robert Pattinson for his talent, not merely his looks or movie roles. In my opinion, he is an extremely talented man. Not only is he a phenomenal actor who excels in a variety of roles, but he is also an extraordinary musician and just a charming guy.

Robert wasn't just "a second rate character in Harry potter". He has been in many other movies. He had many fans before he was cast to be Edward in Twilight, although he has gained many after as well. Is there something wrong with the publicity he is receiving? Twilight is a huge franchise. Because of this, I believe being cast as Edward enabled more people to see his talent and potential and therefore brought him new fans, and there is nothing wrong with that. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are following a "hype", they may genuinely like him and think he is talented.

My views on Robert as #1:
I am so happy that Robert is on top. There is no one I would rather see be at #1. As I said, I feel that he is truly amazing and really something special. He is my favorite actor, and I am so glad that so many people are embracing him and seeing his true potential. I am thrilled to see him in Twilight, and I am eagerly anticipating his other upcoming roles as well. Great choice tMF smilies/grin.gif

Robert Pattinson Deserves His Spot
THANKS SO MUCH for finally putting Robert Pattinson at number 1! He definitely deserves it! He is not only amazingly attractive but he is also an extremely brilliant and talented actor! Anyone who has watched his performances can tell how AMAZING he is! He's a multi-talented guy and hot as heck!smilies/grin.gif

I just wanted to add to my comment from much earlier that, although I do think Robert Pattinson is...attractive... (thats an incredible understatement), that has absolutely nothing to do with why I think he deserved the #1 spot and why I really wanted him to get it. Rather, I thought these things b/c I believe he is an extremely talented actor and has promising roles on the way that will complement each other nicely, i.e., Edward in Twilight- which will gain him popularity and more mainstream recognition- and Dali in Little Ashes- which will really showcase his acting abilities and prove that he is so much more than just another pretty face, as some might be inclined to believe he is just b/c of his role as Edward. Furthermore, I think blearyeyedmesgirl did a fantastic job of explaining all the reasons that Rob qualifies for the #1 spot, and i am also in complete agreement w/LeahRae. One last thing (I just couldnt resist saying it one more time): GO ROBERT PATTINSON!
VanessaC , September 30, 2008
Thanks for getting it right :)
I would have to agree with most of the people on your list especially the ones who do not get the attention that they deserve such as Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jamie Bell, and Robert Pattinson!!!!! These three all take in their characters that I never see them as Joseph, Jamie or Robert BUT the character that they are playing. The same applies for Ryan Gosling!!
Athena , September 30, 2008
Robert Pattinson
I think Rob deserved the number 1 spot... He didn't just make it on that rank by being the beautiful guy that he is... That's just like a bonus if you know what I mean... I'm pretty sure he worked hard for it... Twilight is definitely his biggest break as I can see... smilies/smiley.gif

Robert Pattinson
Awesome... Bloody awesome. The buzz Robert has been getting lately is beyond phenomenal, it was really quick, it's amazing. Obviously, he earns the number one spot for Hottest young actors, especially with his movie How To Be (Twilight may be getting a lot of buzz, but How To Be really shows his versatility). I must add though, Shia should be close to the top as well. I mean, all of the actors on the list are fabulous, but Shia is fantastic, really.
Monica , October 01, 2008
Ahaaa....
Rob on the top. No surprise to me at all! As hard as you push him here on tMF...not that I would mind. smilies/wink.gif....always eager to read something about him!!

I really like Ryan Gosling too!! Thanks for puting him in the top 10.

Great to see that tMf is so forward thinking. Its a brave decision but a very good one in my opinion. I think Rob is going to astound people in the coming years. I cannot wait to see Little Ashes. Someoen who saw a chunk of the film said the moment Dali (Rob) finds out that Lorca is dead is especially powerful.

Forgot to say I am not a Twilight fan. I'll see the film because of Rob but thats not why I admire Rob. Like Titanic isnt why I like and admire the work of Di Caprio.

Yea Rob...you know you have made it, when any article or list about you generates so many comments and reactions. Whether you love him or hate him, there is no denying it, there is something about him that draws people in...even the people who have dimissed him, are spending time in their day commenting on him on the different boards...all I can say to the non-believers...stand back and watch a star rise...!!!! Team Pattinson all the way baby!!!

how come pattinson is no.1??...so this twilight thing came up and hes suddenly everywhere?? cmon its only because he plays edward cullen, i mean what other movie can you tell me?

I suggest you read some of the other comments before commenting...not only is there a detailed description as to the 'why' Pattinson made the #1 spot, there are also numerous accounts of his other movies. But I'm happy to repeat myself, as I'm sure others would be as well.

Though a few clicks to Pattinson's IMDb page would answer your ignorance, I'll give you a brief rundown....

The two films he is most known for are indeed Harry Potter and Twilight. But the two that recount his amazing talent are The Bad Mother's Handbook and The Haunted Airman. Go watch them, and then speak with the ability of having a bit of knowledge.

In addition to Twilight, his two films on the Film Festival ciruit, How To Be and Little Ashes will bring him the acclaim all his fans speak of. As you can, hopefully, read...those are two films that are talked about in great length by his fans. There are Twilight fans and then there are Robert Pattinson fans who because of him are now fans of Twilight.

In addition to these films there was also Vanity Fair, The Ring of the Nibelungs, The Summerhouse and possibly a new one in the works called Parts Per Billion.

While Gaspard has done a few films that people have actually heard of, he is no more 'well known' nor 'more talented' than Pattinson. I find it very generous that he is #2, but having not seen him work, I wouldn't dare put down his talent...I'm not a hypocrite you see and I trust the judgment and rating system of tMF.

Also, to answer the question on Tom Sturridge, he's in the Top 40, but sure to rise after more on the film he's currently working comes out...

SWEET VICTORY
That DORK Gaspard Uliel shouldn't even be on the list!

ROBERT PATTINSON IS SO FLIPPIN HOT!!!! GOOD JOB WITH THIS LIST, EXCEPT FOR GEEKY GASPARD!

You've got THAT right! ROBERT PATTINSON IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE NUMBER ONE HOTTEST!!!!
AWESOME! I'm not surprised at all that Robert Pattinson is number one, but it's still awesome to have him beat everyone else.

It's like Michael Phelps against everyone else; no one has a chance against him, just like no on has a chance beating Rob in a Most Hot list!!!
OliviaSpiderMonkey , October 01, 2008
Rob is HOT and Gaspard's NOT
I don't even know why Gaspard Ulliel is on this list. . . . . I agree with the other commenters, GU is fugly.

Robert Pattinson is SOOO dreamy, though. Dreamiest and hottest out of *everyone*.

Good choice for #1.
I can't think of anyone better for number 1 hottest. I'm not a fanatical fangirl, but I can't deny that Robert Pattinson has a certain charm about him.

This site might as well be changed into a Twilight fansite

Actually, Rob's Little Ashes and How To Be are mentioned way more than Twilight on this site, with the exception of comments. tMF just has a knack for recognizing talent.

On a separate note, only the ignorant are complaining. Only those who haven't taken the time to watch good film, like say all of Pattinson's works, are the ones complaining. Just an observation...
blearyeyedmesgirl , October 01, 2008 | url
...
Oh...and since I've mentioned how I disagree with speaking of something one does not know anything about - like how I can't comment on Gaspard's work and talent since I've not seen any of his work - in my opinion, the same goes for calling people 'ugly' or any different way one wants to say that. That's not what the list is about. It says 'Hot' but not in the vernacular of their looks...more so on 'Hot' new talent...etc...

Just another opinion and observation!
blearyeyedmesgirl , October 01, 2008 | url
Robert Pattinson is an amazing actor. I know when people bash Rob and praise Gaspard they're just trying to annoy Rob fans, but really, it just makes me feel sorry for Gaspard Ulliel having such petty
In addition to being polite & modest in interviews, sweet&obliging to fans, charming & handsome everywhere, Robert Pattinson is a brilliant actor. Anyone who denies that fact obviously hasn't seen his movies, or have a warped sense when it comes to good acting.

I haven't seen any of Gaspard Ulliel's movies. I really don't care one way or the other about him. It does confuse me, though, why some people think he's "the hottest." I don't think he's ugly, but he's not hot, either. I thought Tarzan when I saw him, actually. That humongous chin.

Robert Pattinson deserves his place as number one!
TheAwesomeOne , October 01, 2008
Robert Pattinson. is perfect for #1
Rob's so charismatic. He seems like such a nice, good person in real life. He's so perfect for Edward Cullen.

Things Rob and Edward have in common:
They both:
are sweet
are charming
are hot
are dazzling
have a mysterious, vampiric quality about them
are gorgeous
are wellspoken
are humble
are beautiful
and they both sparkle in the sun

I am seeing Twilight opening day!!!!!!!!!!
