Not only are they capable of lighting up the silver screen, they are also some of today's most talented young actresses, commanding huge fees - in some cases, in the millions. Many have won multiple awards, while others have starred in some of today's biggest box office hits. In short, we're listing the cream of the crop!

Just like our recent Top 50 hottest young actors, we've narrowed down our list from 75 to 30, and set an age limit. If you miss seeing some of your favorites, so do we - including Maggie Gyllenhaal (31 years old) and Amy Adams (34 years old).

Definitely who you'll see on the list are emerging talents - the ones you will see getting the big roles in the near future - and some of them already have, with multiple awards and nominations to boot.

She was fantastic in Gregg Araki's Mysterious Skin, playing a supporting role to Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Neil McCormick. As Wendy, Michelle Trachtenberg played her role in the most subtle of ways, but end up being one of the most unforgettable characters in the movie. Says Michelle:

“The Mysterious Skin” is basically about two boys who were sexually molested when they were younger. One grows up to really embrace this and he pretty much whores himself out to the gay community. That's Gordon Levitt and he is just brilliant. And Brady Corbet plays the other boy. He is very confused about what happened to him. He thinks he was abducted by aliens. I play Joe's best friend. I am the only one he has ever been able to trust in his life, so I help him understand what happened to him when he was younger."

Her performances on both television and the big screen cannot be ignored - from Nicklelodeon and Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Eurotrip and now back to TV as one of the mainstays in the popular series, Gossip Girl.

On keeping sane vis-a-vis her Hollywood fame:

" Keep your private life private. Be open to suggestions from different people. And just be nice. I have heard stories about people who are just plain rude to the press or fans. I have never understood that. I come from a place where the press makes or breaks an actor and it is more of a teamwork relationship."

Michelle has remained quite busy during the last two years, with three films slated for 2008. Among them are Kids in America, 17 Again and Against the Current.

Cited by media as a major component in the popularization of "geek chic", Kristen Bell has been recognized for her young looks and amazing talents. She received a Satellite Award and Saturn Award, and has been nominated for a Television Critics Association Award and Teen Choice Award.

Though her first film role came with an uncredited appearance in Polish Wedding, Bell had previously acted in stage and musical productions. In 2001, she made her Broadway debut as Becky Thatcher in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. After re-locating to Los Angeles, Bell landed various television guest appearances and small film parts, before she gained notability for starring in the title role of the critically acclaimed television show Veronica Mars which ran from September 2004 to May 2007.

During her time on Veronica Mars, Bell reprised her role as Mary Lane in the film version of Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, a stage production she had previously taken part in. She also took the lead role in Pulse, a remake of a J-Horror film. In 2007, she joined the cast of Heroes playing the sultry vixen Elle Bishop, and Gossip Girl as the titular narrator.

Watch out for Kristen Stewart as she establishes herself in 2008 as one of moviedom's most sought-after leading ladies! Up to now, what we have seen of Stewart are mainly notable supporting roles, and while she maintains her consistency in choosing her projects, these movies only hint at her potential - Panic Room, Catch That Kid, Speak, Zathura, The Messengers, In the Land of Women and the critically acclaimed Into the Wild.
But all that is about to change as she leads a pack of promising young talents in this year's most anticipated movie - Twilight.

 
Says the actress on her role as Bella:

" I feel like she is a generally relatable character, you know, it’s like in the beginning of the story it’s not her choice to go to Forks, but really she HAS no other choice, it’s like, “Well, i don’t want to be on the road with my mom’s boyfriend”. I think what makes the love story so effective is that she doesn’t have any real connections with people, she’s bored and displaced. She is easily related to by most kids that age, and not just girls, but mainly because it’s…she doesn’t have…People really like her, she’s good hearted. Elisha Cuthbert made waves in 2004's The Girl Next Door with Emile Hirsch and Paul Dano. As Danielle, Cuthbert played a porn star who simply hates what she's doing and wants to start anew. Critics lambasted the movie, but in Cuthbert, we discovered an actress capable of playing controversial roles with style and aplomb. Says a critic:
" While some critics tended to brush off Elisha Cuthbert's performance as just another skin-baring 'boy toy' variation, she actually conveys the vulnerability and pain of her character's past quite effectively, balancing it with sly humor and a LOT of 'sex appeal', done within the restraints of her "No Nudity" contract clause...Sorry, guys, while you'll see a LOT of her skin, you AREN'T going to see Elisha 'bare all'..."

Noted for her good looks and sex appeal, the actress is certainly more than just 'eye candy'. Says Elisha:

Anne Hathaway certainly made her transition from playing the usual Disney heroine into one of today's most sought-after actresses- with acclaimed performances in Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada and Becoming Jane.

Says Hathaway:

" I spent a lot of time in the early part of my career staying within the same realm with a lot of my film choices. I don't regret that, considering that my first movie was ... a very popular film. So, all of a sudden, I had opportunities, I had attention, I had buzz and heat and all those things that people tell you you are supposed to work for and I didn't know if I could act."

Sophia Myles recently won the Best Actress at the Scottish BAFTA for her role as Kate Breck in Hallam Foe. Hallam Foe is a 2007 Scottish drama film directed by David Mackenzie based on the novel written by Peter Jinks. It tells the story of Hallam (played by Jamie Bell) who is convinced that his stepmother Verity is responsible for his mother's death by drowning two years earlier. Hallam's sister leaves home to attend university, and it becomes clear that Verity and his father want Hallam to move on as well. Hallam initially refuses due to his suspicion of Verity, but she uses his diaries to blackmail him into leaving.
 
 
 
 

To escape his father and stepmother, Hallam travels to Edinburgh. Upon arrival in Edinburgh, Hallam sees Kate (Myles), who has a striking resemblance to his late mother.

" She's an interesting mix. She's got a very tough, business-like exterior, but on the other side there's vulnerability and a softness that is torn out by the relationship with Hallam. She battles with her demons, and like we all do she has a light and some dark sides. The thing I like about Mackenzie's films is that he is very honest about the human condition. He never ties anything up. It's very ambiguous. It's very honest. "
Aside from Hallam Foe, Myles is also known for her role in Art School Confidential, Tristan & Isolde (where she played the lead role) and Thunderbirds (as Lady Penelope).

Bryce Dallas-Howard. As the daugther of award-winning filmmaker Ron Howard, the young Bryce need not prove herself in terms of her acting. In M. Night Shyamalan's The Village, she was cast in without having to audition after Shyamalan saw her in a Broadway show. Following that, Howard was cast by Lars Von Trier to replace Nicole Kidman as Grace in Manderlay (2005). She collaborated again with Shyamalan in the 2006 release Lady in the Water, in which she plays Story, a type of water nymph called a "narf."

In 2006 she starred as Rosalind in Kenneth Branagh's film version of Shakespeare's As You Like It, opposite David Oyelowo as Orlando. The film played theatres in Europe, but went directly to cable in the U.S. Ms. Howard was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her performance.
 
 
 
 

Of course, she'll be remembered too in Spiderman 3 as Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's lab partner.
 
 
 
 

Her next film is The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond, by director Jodie Markell. The film is based on Tennessee Williams's long-forgotten screenplay. Dallas Howard is to play the leading role of Fisher Willow.

Abbie Cornish. After conquering the Australian film industry, Abbie Cornish received widespread critical acclaim for her role in 2006's Candy. Adapted from Luke Davies's novel entitled Candy: A Novel of Love and Addiction, it also stars the late Heath Ledger and Geoffrey Rush. The movie is all about a poet named Dan (Heath Ledger) who falls in love with an art student named Candy (Abbie Cornish) who then gravitates to his bohemian lifestyle - and his love of heroin. Hooked as much on one another as they are on the drug, their relationship alternates between states of oblivion, self-destruction, and despair.
 
 
 
 
 

Cornish also starred in A Good Year with Russel Crowe, The Golden Age and Kimberly Peirce's latest movie, Stop-Loss.

Here's one of the UK's most promising and talented young actresses, Hayley Atwell. Says the Times:

A Golden Globe Award-winning English actress known for her work in the film My Summer of Love and her appearance in The Devil Wears Prada, Emily Blunt ranks high in our list. Fearless and ready to take on any challenging roles, Blunt was quite a revelation in My Summer of Love. kristin stewart leaves me blank. I think her acting is very bland. maybe because she plays very bland characters. i have no doubt she is a good actress - just not the best out there. i think some people have been blind-sighted by all the hype surrounding twilight. yes, im excited too, but lets gives these other incredible actresses their due credit too.

i really hope that evan rachel wood and emily browning are in the top 10. they are my 2 favourite young actresses and have proven that they are exceptionally talented.

Kristen should be at least in the top ten istead of the top 20. But maybe it isnt just her time to shine. I am sure after Twilight she will be getting more top spots, because I love her acting in pass movies, and she has to put everything into this one. I have no doubt in my mind that she will be Great as Bella. I was super excited the first time I saw her picture on Stephenies site because she was the one person I pictured as Our Bella.

Honestly, I think Kristen is just fine where she is, Twilight fans. Support her because she's your image of Bella, that's fine, but saying that she is the best young actress in the world today is too much. I was a Twilight fan years before the frenzy and I'll be one years after the frenzy, but Kristen is just another young and interesting actress.

Thanks for putting Sophia Myles on the list! I adore her acting and, of course, she's so beautiful.

I've never actually seen Kristen Stewart act (yet), so I can't say how good or bad she is. But Michelle Trachtenberg has always been one of my favorite young actresses. And she's very down to earth, too. I think she deserves to be a little higher up on the list. I'm not saying she's number one, but I think she's higher up than number 30, on my list anyway. I'm keeping in mind that we don't know who is in the top 10 yet, and another of my favorites may be in there.

to anyone who is says negative comments for the sake of being negative...that's your opinion, i won't impose. A suggestion, however...go see Twilight. read it, try something new out! Kristen Stewart is not as big as some of the other actresses out, but her vitality is creating this big of a response. just look around. This is the example of how the FANBASE makes the actor/actress can you deny that? the one thing i see which stands out is when the acting community INVOLVES the fanbase. Kristen should be higher in the list...She is such a talented actress! She is beautiful and even though she hasnt played many lead roles she is unforgetfull in every movie she is and just steals the spotlight. She is simply one of the best actresses out there and she is not interested in being it girl or become a commercial actress like many others that are higher in the list by the way...

Well, I enjoyed nothing more then to read the comments above and realize that if not all of them, most contained joy and good wishes to Twilight's very own Kristen Stewart. She is an amazing and inspiring young actress and very much so deserves to be counted on this list. I personally believe that after the That Which Is Twilight craze hits the less then suspecting general public, Miss Stewart will be one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood. Mark my words you won't be able to cross a billboard or see a comercial with out seeing our loved Bella Kristen Stewart, staring in it.

Well... I'll just say right now that I don't care about hatemail.

Next: I agree with lauza who described Kristen Steward as "bland". She does nothing to incite an emotional reaction from me- maybe because I'm not jumping on the "Twilight" bandwagon (absolutely abhorring the story's dependent, weak and wimpy heroine who does nothing but cry after her "beloved").

The one I'd place higher on the list is Anne Hathaway. For me, she has it all- charisma, acting talent and a good eye for choosing the right parts.

Kristen Stewart is an AMAZING actress. Her role in Speak was rellay good. So was The Messengers. She's one of the few serious actresses. she doesn't seem to play the OMG preppy/sluty girl in movies.

Dude, I'm a Twilight fan (a die-hard one, too, at that), but I think that other actresses BESIDES the one playing Bella are great, too. It bugs me that Kristen is only mentioned by most of you in reference to Twilight- don't you think that would annoy her? That out of all of her roles, the one she's most famous for so far is the one that hasn't even hit the big screen yet?

Just my opinion. Kinda sad that I wasted all that space with a rant that defies its own purpose of not going on and on about Bella/Kristen.

Anne Hathaway and Kristen Stewart are amazing. I think I may be one of the few Twilight fans out there that likes Kristen because of her acting skills rather than her role in Twilight smilies/wink.gif She has such an incredible talent, and it's almost all her. If you've read some of her bios, Kristen hasn't had much professional acting classes. She is a natural actress. I know she will do great things later on in her carreer and Twilight might just be that lift she needs to start rising. regardless, she has done many wonderful things in her previous films.

And on a side note, you can't really state anyone's acting opinion, based on whether you think a person is a snob or not. Sometimes you have to admit talent when you see it.

If you have ever seen any of Kristen Stuart's acting, well let's just say I was disappointed when they casted her as Bella Swan in Twilight. On the other hand, Kristen Bell is awesome. Ok I think its pretty funny how almost every single comment-whether its good or not-has to do with Kristen Stewart.But i don't think people should say mean things about her. I mean come on people!!!If you don't like her and you're getting bugged by people who do that doesn't mean you have to comment about it!! I am also a Twilight fan (shocker,right) and I have to admit I had doubts about her playing the role as Bella but then again,I've only seen her in a couple of movies so I can't make judgements about her acting until I see her do more. Now I'm not saying that she wasn't good in all of her other movies but we all have to admit that this role is pretty different from "Zathura" or "The Messengers" so I'm not completley sure I can call her my favorite actress just because she's playing the main character in one of the best-selling series. But I do think that she'll do a great job in "Twilight" or they probably wouldn't have casted her.So for the people who don't like her-cut her some slack. Soon after this movie is out she will be one of the biggest new actresses 'cause there's always that one movie that makes a new actor/actress show everyone what they're made of. I can't wait for the movie to come out so it can show everyone what they are talking about before they go makeing bad comments about her.Bottom line is I think she's an awesome actress and I can't wait to see what she does for this role.


I'm also a fan of Anne Hathaway. She was great in "The Devil Wears Prada".
