Daniel Day Lewis is undisputedly one of the most talented actors working today with unforgettable performances in My Beautiful Launderette, A Room with a View, My Left Foot, The Last of the Mohicans, In the Name of the Father and Gangs of New York, among many others.

It has been said that in order to prepare for his role in My Left Foot, where he portrayed a disabled man with cerebral palsy, he asked film crews on many occasions to carry him to his wheelchair. His unconventional and often controversial ways of sinking into a role may not please everyone, but it certainly puts him in a league of his own. Watching Gangs of New York right after seeing My Left Foot, I couldn't help but wonder if I was seeing the same man - he portrayed two entirely different characters with amazing aplomb. Both films have been praised for Lewis’ intelligent and truthful performances, garnering the actor a win (My Left Foot) and a nomination (Gangs of New York) at the Oscars.

While he may seem to be on 'semi-retirement' at present, a lot of buzz is being generated by an upcoming film from PT Anderson. The film, There will be Blood, will feature the unparalleled Mr. Day-Lewis, and tMF will not be far behind in posting updated information regarding this eagerly awaited film.

Info, posts and updates from the cigarettesandredvines.com blog (Director PT Anderson's dedicated site):

"There will be blood" is partially based on Upton Sinclair's novel 'Oil!'. Paul Anderson has said that in writing the script, the story deviated from the book a great deal and evolved into its own thing. The production was delayed for more than a year in order to clear up legal and financial issues before finally being shot in the summer of 2006. The shoot lasted about three months and took place mostly in Marfa, Texas.

During shooting, a cryptic photo blog was maintained, known as 'little boston news'. the blog is named after the location in which most of the events of the film take place in (little boston).

Background on the book: In Oil! Upton Sinclair fashioned a novel out of the oil scandals of the Harding administration, providing in the process a detailed picture of the development of the oil industry in Southern California. Bribery of public officials, class warfare, and international rivalry over oil production are the context for Sinclair's story of a genial independent oil developer and his son, whose sympathy for the oilfield workers and socialist organizers fuels a running debate with his father. Senators, small investors, oil magnates, a Hollywood film star and a crusading evangelist people the pages of this lively novel.

"Oil! remains the most ambitious Southern California novel of the 1920s. . . . Chosen by the Literary Guild, Oil! made the best-seller list. Its sales were helped along when Sinclair, hoping to get arrested, personally hawked copies of the book on the streets of Boston, after it was banned there for its outspoken advocacy of birth control." Review by Kevin Starr.

First review of the film
The buzz gets bigger and the film gets hotter!

Excerpt from cinematical:

And I suppose that's what makes the director's There Will Be Blood such a stunning surprise. It's more than a "departure" for the director; it's a monumental display of "evolution" that'll wow the established fans and impress a helluva lot more new ones. This is a dark, compelling and effortlessly engrossing film, one bolstered by a lead performance that ranks among the very best of Lewis' impressive career.
