The significance of Sobran

I have to agree with the notion that the details of Sobran's life all faded in comparison with the all-consuming presence of Xas, and I think Knox intended this. His greatest redeeming feature is the angel in his life and I fell in love with him almost because Xas had done so. - Andrew

Sobran Jodeau

Yes Elle! and thanks. I think we need to promote this upcoming movie not only because the book rocks but because the cast, its director and everything associated with the movie are first-rate!

Hi Joseph! I also agree with you about Sobran's relevance and how his character really helped make this book one of the best I've read in years. Sobran is as complex a character as Xas, even perhaps more complicated in the sense that he has to deal with so many issues- business, family, Xas, his own self-identity issues...

I'm really looking forward to this movie. - jedmed

I'm eagerly anticipating the film version of The Vintner's Luck--Elizabeth Knox's novel is unquestionably one of the best I've ever read, and I'm literally over the moon about the casting: both Gaspard Ulliel and Jérémie Renier are perfectly cast.

I do have to disagree with Auerbach's take on Sobran: I found his journey and complexities to be equally as compelling as the character of Xas, and, in a way, more complex, as he is constantly forced to reconsider conceptions and ideas he'd held since a young man, as his relationship with Xas forces him to discovers truths about himself and those he loves. - Joseph
