Very Worthwhile Cause!

Jed, thanks for doing this feature and informing us of this very worthwhile cause! What a great idea and project, done in honor of Ryan's passion and activism towards this organization. I'm sure Ryan himself will be very touched by this gesture, knowing that this project will be giving a donation in his name. I hope this project will raise alot of money. All tMF visitors, please spread the word.

I have read how involved Ryan is in so many causes important to him. I believe I even read in an interview that he went to New Orleans to help with the cleanup, after the devistation they experienced there, and people loosing their homes.

I will especially be interested to hear more about Ryan's directorial debut film he will be making about child soldiers in Africa. It so happens Ryan was attached to a future 2008 film called The Other Side, which is suppose to start filming this November in my Canadian province....but supposedly he won't be doing The Other Side, because its filming conflicts with the dates of him filming and directing his movie on child soldiers. It has been said in interviews that this movie on child soldiers, is his main priority at this time.

If I may, still pertaining on the subject here about child soldiers, perhaps some of you may have heard of a young man named Ishmael Beah who was himself a child soldier in Sierra Leone, and lived through it to tell his story. I would like to post an interview with this young man telling his compelling story of what happened to him. He gives much insight on how they recruit and brainwash children into becoming soldiers who kill. Also, included below is a link to this young man's memoire he wrote about his experiences being a child soldier.
Ishmael Beah

Of course, not everyone who's a soldier, wants to fight in a war.

Child soldiers don't get to decide. They're forced into it. There are about 300 thousand child soldiers around the world. 14, 15, 16 years old and some are as young as nine.

His name Ishmael Beah. Ishmael was a child soldier in Sierra Leone. By the age of 16, he'd committed crimes you can't even imagine. But he was one of the lucky ones. He was repatriated by the United Nations, and given a new chance in life.

He moved to New York and has written a book about his experiences.

It's called \"A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier.\"
