When I saw the trailer for the movie a few months ago (not knowing what Speed Racer was) I went yelling through the house to my husband that they remade Tron! He just looked at me like I had lost my mind and then explained to me that it was something different entirely. However the first impression I gleamed off the trailer was just that...TRON...truer words my friend. Though that leads to a frightening thought. What if they decided to remake Tron...*shudder* Some cult films should stay just that...cult films. Long live Tron and Willy Wonka. Excellent review by the way. I think I'll wait for this one to be on cable before I see it. Though it strikes me that much of what you said was said about Godzilla too...crappy plot cool special effects.
