Everyone bases their criticism on his acting in the High School Musical franchise, but it seems they fail to remember that that movie is geared toward children and pre-teen girls. And with it's incredible success, his acting can't be too terrible to [i]them[/i]. Even pre-teenagers can discern bad acting (From Justin to Kelly, for example). Also, in Hairspray, the character had already been developed in previous films/musicals. Major deviation from that set personality (shallow, somewhat narcissistic) might upset fans. Up until [u]Me and Orson Welles[/u], Zac hasn't had the opportunity to truly create a character.
