Ben Barnes was supposed to be the "IT" actor when Prince Caspian was released but it didn't happen.
Don't know Jim Sturgess.
You forgot to mention James McAvoy. He and Rob Pattinson are truly talented actors. I lived in London when Titanic premiered and it was the same reaction from fans, critics and the public in general that Rob is getting now. So the comparisons to Leo are spot on.
Rob will endure because he works on his character development and he is a nice guy. Just like Leo.
As long as he stays away from the crap life that led to Heath Ledeger's and River Phoenix's wasted deaths, he will be GREAT. And as long as he doesn't feel like he has to prove himself by doing disturbing roles like Heath and River did which caused their troubled lifestyles, he will endure.
Rob is the only "IT" boy in this conversation, mates. - Arthur

Where to start?
I think first off, Rob must have found some fascination with Edward to choose to play his character. I have read several times that Rob wanted to make Edward a depressive type of character and even talked at length with Stephanie Meyer about it to no avail. I think he could have brought a lot more dimension to Edward had Rob been able to portray him they way he saw Edward himself. That being said, I am a huge fan of indie type films as well as foreign films. I am looking forward to seeing him in Little Ashes and How to Be. I liked reading the Twilight saga, though I came across it by accident in all actuality. I didn't even know they were making a movie out of it until I went on to IMDB and saw Twilight represented on their front page. I had to do a double take to see if they were making a movie out of the book I'd just finished, or if it was something else. I was excited to find out it was indeed being made into a movie, and that the lead as Edward was a close representation of what I thought him to look like in the book. I think Robert Pattinson is an extremely gifted actor who really delves into the soul of whomever he is portraying. And that's a good thing for us, and everyone that will see his future films because we know we are getting quality. Insofar as his "real self" I think it's a shame that he is getting slammed with so much publicity, I guess it can be a double edged sword. I grew up in Seattle, WA and saw this happen to another famous person from there.... The end result wasn't a pretty one, but one thing I will say is that they booth look(ed) good in flannel.
I wish Rob all the best, and am happy there was something in Edward he found worthwhile. - Sayuri

How can anyone say no to his puppy dog eyes? He's done so much with his life, and he gives off such a cute vibe. He has a bit of the same scruffy look as Robert, without going hobo-chic on us all. It makes me want to bump in to Jim rather than him.
Robert to me doesn't seem like he's as good an actor as Jim. Am I the only one who thinks his Twilight performance seems wooden from the previews and his chemistry with Kristen is non-existant?
But all three of them have done amazing things so far (even though I've yet to watch Ben act), and I can't wait to see what they do next. - Ohmy

and why must the other two be dised? The best actor in the world can only do so much with a bad script/deranged director/or other factors beyond control.A lot of actors have started making one movie and ended up with a totally different one.I'm willing to watch and support all three of these young men. - Basaxl

How do we sway the vote for this thing? Jim Sturgess has managed to win my vote and has me wondering why there's even two other people in the running for this. I think it's simply how earnest he seems playing the characters. There's something so human and palpable about him that just makes you connect. There's also something in his eyes that makes it difficult to look away. Perhaps he's using a jedi mind trick, but there you have it, Jim Sturgess all the way. - Kitty

personally,i think that pattinson is not all that attractive. sorry. he's just seems like an awkward guy, not smooth as Edward Cullen is portrayed in Twilight. don't get me wrong, ive been a twilight fan since 2005, but i dont see what the fangirl fuss is all about. ive of course seen only a few movies with him in it, and clips and interviews besides, but I don't think he's all that charismatic or attractive. but hopefully he can pull off a decent Edward. plus his singing voice is, well, not up to par. take this from someone whos sung internationally- eh. but his acting is pretty good, i have to admit.

as for sturgess, i was pleasantly surprised in across the universe with his singing talent. his acting skills are pretty good- i particularly enjoyed his American accent in 21 and the emotions that he nailed in across the universe, both vocally and physically. if he chooses and receives the right parts, his star status could rise rapidly.

barnes clearly has charisma and good looks, giving sturgess a run for his money in that department :) but his accent in prince caspian was not all that great. i read somewhere that it was loosely based on inigo montaya, which was a comic representation, but his work in bigga than ben was very very good- this accent was believable! i am looking forward to dorain grey- i adore the novel- and hope that barnes will continue to act in diverse films so his ability can truly be assessed and accordingly admired.

much love, glor - hmmm

Not only does Rob look good, he has MAJOR talent. I've never seen an actor get so lost in his character like he does. He has a rare talent of becoming the character. He gave his small character David Gale in the "Mad Mothers Handbook" such warmth and depth. And in the Haunted Airman he was simply wonderful as the crazy, cold mannered Toby. Even his movements out of the wheelchair were so believable. From what i've seen from the Twilight trailer i would say he's very good as Edward Cullen. I wasn't a huge fan of the cheezy trailer so I'm going to reserve judgment until i see the full movie.
The thing about Rob is that he's smart, he does the research and creates his character himself, he doesn't need that much outside help. I am simply dying to see "Little Ashes", this will be Rob's most important role to date. All the reivews have been simply wonderful, saying that Rob really brings Dali alive. I have heard great things about How to Be, but I have been able to see it as I live in Ireland. I agree that its great that Rob doesnt' care about image or glamour or fame. He definitley reminds me of Johnny Depp that way, and he also resembles Johnny in the fact that Johnny also has a talent for really becoming his character. Move over Johnny, we've found your replacement hehe. - kerry

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand how you guys can be so all over such an ugly actor like ROB!! He's so weird, looks like Mars itself!! BENNY on the other hand....okay you don't even want me to go there!!!! But he's like freakin HOTTTT!! He's the best actor on this planet.
Like I said, all those bad reports about Prince Caspian, just a bunch of crap. It isn't true. All those dumb reporters and stupid reviewers are just looking for the bad in Ben (and there really isn't ANYTHING bad about him..) but I think if they started with looking for the GOOD instead of the BAD they would find the hottest sexiest handsomest cutest bestest actor on earth, that make Robert Pattinson look like Don Knotts or Tim Conway. - BEN BARNES' GIRL!!!!!

OMG i've been reading over the comments, and it looks like most people like rob. Well, I'm proud to say I'm one of them. I've actually seen Across the Universe and I liked it, but I also have seen Harry Potter 8) I think you can understand why.
Who doesn't like RPATTZ, really? I mean he's the closest to EDWARD we have, and come on, if you dont know who Edward is you must be living in another world. Spunk is my fav. as is many others, and I think he'll do a spectacular job. I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he will be awesome, just watch TWilight!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what all you FREAKS were thinking!!!!! >:(
Ben Barnes is definately the BEST of the three! For many many many reasons. 8)

1# He gets into his part. He played such a perfect flawless Prince Caspian I just couldn't believe my eyes!! :-*

2# He's young. He has his whole life ahead of him. He can learn lots more and improve his acting skills signifantly. ;)

3# He's got talent. Everyone knows it and if you don't than you are a total freak and you live on Mars. The way that he can twirl a sword, curl a lip, raise an eyebrow...it adds so much to his part it is simply amazing. :D

4# He's HOTTTTTT!!!! Who wouldn't love a sexy beast like Benny?! He's got those dreamy chocolate eyes. The skin, the voice, the lips, the chin....the HAIR!!! I couldn't believe the awesome work they did on his hair with the extensions and all in Prince Caspian.

Ben Barnes is my hero. No matter what you stupid people say he will always be my hero. I am not biased. Magazines and critiques love to pull out the dirty, the bad, the worst in people. But I love to pull out the best. And BEN BARNES IS THE BEST!!!!! :O

Blessings to all of my dear Ben Barnes fans,
CaspiansGirl - BEN BARNES' GIRL!!!!!

He is, however, a very talented young man. I was very impressed with his work in "The Bad Mother's Handbook", "The Haunted Airman", and "How to Be". He has a naturalism that infuses these very diverse roles with his own personality, without making them one-note characters. If he can get past the "twilight" hype, more power to him. I'm very much looking forward to "Little Ashes" and anything else he does in the future, including more music than that currently circulating on the 'net. He is definitely a talent to be watched! - Autumn

Yes, I too am going to have to (unfortunately) say Robert Pattinson. Unfortunate because I was hoping to keep him all to myself. Darn - the good ones always get away. All kidding aside, I have watched Rob in The Haunted Airman, Bad Mother's Handbook, How To Be, and I can't wait to see him in Little Ashes. I must say his acting ability is quite good - even without all the hype of Twilight. Now, for Twilight: As I read the Twilight Saga, I had an idea of what Edward would look like if he were a real "vampire" person. I wasn't too certain that the actor (RP) who played Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movie would/could pull off Edward. It wasn't until I saw the Joey Lawrence "Twilight Movie Poster" that I saw Edward in/through Robert Pattinson. Like so many other women on this site, and, with an enormous thank you to Stephenie Meyer for sharing her dream with the world, I am in love with a vampire named Edward. - a "Twilightmom" - :) - ecgirl1
