If you're a Twilight fan, then you'll be quite familiar with young actor Michael Welch. But even if you're not, if you're simply just a "moviegoer", then you've probably seen him in one of his many movies. This year alone he's already made seven! - - -
 - - - At 20, this is probably the right time for Mike to explore his options and meet his casting challenges head on! It was ten years ago when he started acting, appearing first on TV shows and later on picking up some notable roles in movies. Growing up in the biz brings its share of the goodies! - - -
As Mike Newton in Twilight: One of the seven projects he did this year was the upcoming movie version of Twilight. As Mike Newton, he gets to see and talk to Bella and establishes a close relationship with our heroine. Both of them work part time at Newton's Outfitters, owned by Mike's dad. I'm quite sure Mr. Welch will do just fine in his scenes. While he's not the lead actor, he has a growing number of fans who simply love him. Says Michael in an interview with the Twilight Lexicon: "Originally I auditioned for Edward. Ha! As soon as I read the description I knew it wasn’t for me. Although I appreciate my representatives thinking I could pull off “hauntingly beautiful; the most unbelievably good-looking creature the world has ever seen,” honestly, come on."Yes, he might not be able to act like some preternaturally gorgeous creature with awesome powers, but as Mike, he'll be Twilight's Mr. Popularity. Fans might be 'obsessed' with the vampire characters, but there are also cool human characters in the books worthy of admiration. ... cute, baby-faced, gelled hair in spikes...I'm quite sure he'll be creating lots of buzz especially since his role will put him in direct competition with British actor Robert Pattinson. The two characters don't get along with each other, due to Mike's closeness to Bella. Sparks will definitely fly! Defining Role: It's about time Michael Welch established himself as a young actor to be reckoned with. While he has amassed an impressive list of roles in his acting resume, he needs that one defining role that will make industry bigwigs and those influential casting directors sit up and take notice. - - -
 - - - We at tMF believe we has that role already! The movie is entitled Lost Dream and Michael plays the lead role of Perry. Perry Roberts is about to graduate from a prestigious private college. The son of a corrupt congressman, Perry has lost faith in all the things he held true - his family, girlfriend, and the American Dream. He finds himself emotionally bereft and depressed. In search of self-discovery, Perry meets Giovanni, an art student with an unrealized gift. Giovanni is Perry's polar opposite. Raised by abusive parents and placed into a series of foster homes, Giovanni is brooding and nihilistic. He lives in an altered state full of drugs and sex, capped by a deadly game with a gun and a single bullet! Perry sees Gio as a free spirit, incorruptible and impervious to the pressures of society. Gio believes Perry to be a spoiled rich boy dabbling in existential angst. Perry needs Gio to believe that his pain is real, while Giovanni implores Perry to play his game of Russian roulette to prove the validity of his suffering. As Perry and Gio's relationship evolves, and drug-fueled emotions churn, their fates linger at the tip of a revolver with a single bullet. Perry sets out on a quest to save Gio. The only question is, is he in time or too late?This will definitely rock! Playing Gio is a young and promising actor from Canada, Shaun Sipos. While Shaun really makes an impact by playing the more rebellious of the two boys, Welch's character still carries the movie by being its soul. I just remembered watching 13 Tzameti, a big winner at Cannes. In this film, the lead character was also played by a young man who gambled his life by putting a gun to his head loaded with just one bullet! It's not the same story, of course, but the kind of suspense and moral dilemma somewhat convinces me that Lost Dreams will definitely be a movie to look forward to. The Last Word: From Michael, in response to his role preparation as Mike Newton: ...I read the first book, I read the script, and I didn’t do much else. I wanted to come from myself and be open to the situation on set. I didn’t want to plan anything, I just wanted to keep the character alive and spontaneous, and figure it out as I went along. I’ve never really done it that way before, I usually prepare rigorously. I just decided to trust myself, and my instincts, and be open to Catherine’s vision. It’s definitely been an experiment. But I naturally share a lot in common with Mike coming into this. You know the whole golden retriever thing? That’s not something I need to work on, that’s just in me. So I think it’ll be ok. I guess we’ll see…What's on your mind? Let's see... what's the biggest question for Michael Welch? This is probably one of them... Do you think Michael Welch's portrayal of Mike Newton will meet your expectations? - - -

Haha, loved the golder retriever quote... I think that this movie has a very good casting, and Mike deserves to be on my "perfect for the role list"... Some of the other actors are what I'm worried about

Thanks for this article! I just think Mike is a cool guy, and hes really nice. He also replied great in most of the interviews i've read esp. about twilight. he'll be the best Mike Newton!!!!!

Mike is going to be GREAT as mike! Just from reading mike W's personal blog and watching interviews etc, u can see that hes not that different from M newton. So if hes going by instincts on this character portrayal, its going to be perfect!
