People seem to hate Hayden Christensen, we don't. We simply don't like him as an actor. In Jumper, the latest from Doug Liman, Christensen continued his acting tradition of mediocrity and blandness. He simply is one of the most boring young actors we have today.

While Jamie Bell is a different story. If I recall correctly, right after his success in Billy Elliot, Bell decided to take a different route and played a supporting role to Charlie Hunnam in Nicholas Nickleby. It's a good career choice- proving for a fact that he can act and can take on any roles. In Jumper, he is the only redeeming value in this disappointing film.

Every scene with Bell has this boundless, nervous energy that is somewhat addictive. He's really a fantastic young actor!

A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them.

Sounds like a fine plot for a movie right? Yes, it is. The visual effects and the script are a given. The best in Hollywood can do anything to make any film look authentic, but when it comes to the cast, that's a different story altogether. That's why critics love to dissect the most mundane parts of the most mediocre films. While Jumper has its moments, it's a big big disappointment.

For someone like me who read and loved the book, I expected some surprises even though I have lowered my expectations when they decided to cast Hayden instead of Tom Sturridge. It could have been a different story, or it could have been worse, but from previous performances, I know Mr. Sturridge could deliver a much better Davey. The same case when they selected Hayden instead of Michael Angarano for the much-coveted role of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars pre-quels. Two big and stupid casting decisions. When will they learn?

Others in the cast did not impressed me either. Rachel Bilson, as usual, is charming, yet there seems to be no real connection between her and Hayden, they looked more like 'siblings' than a young romantic couple. As for Samuel L. Jackson, they should have taken out that awful wig! What were they thinking?

Seeing it in IMAX may have raised the visual impact to a certain degree, though...yet I kept on thinking this is supposed to be an action flick, and the teleporting might kept me interested throughout, it did not.

Hmm, I bet you wanted to teleport away from this mess. Well it's not all bad, you still have Sam's funky hairpiece and the score by John Powell...

yes if I can I would! teleport to the 2nd half of the movie that is, where Bell really made such an entrance. If Liman and his editor wanted to seriously make this movie viewable they should have given Jamie more screen time. smilies/tongue.gif

Jamie Bell is so great, but he still wont get me to see Jumper

As great as Jamie is, and as much as I love him, i will never see Jumper, not in a million years. Okay, maybe I will see it when I am sick of all the great films being released in South Africa now, and I can see Jamie again. Great Post nonetheless smilies/wink.gif

Eminem Was Almost In Jumper!

Jed, I must say, great Jamie Bell post! Yes folks, you heard me right as stated in my title.....for those who may not have recently heard, Doug Liman himself admitted to MTV that rapper Eminem was first in the running for Hayden's lead part in Jumper! smilies/shocked.gif Who knows, perhaps Eminem may have fitted in the lead role better than it appears Hayden huh?! Liman say's in the interview that he even met and had conversations with Eminem, regarding him being in Jumper. In the interview, Liman also mentions casting Tom Sturridge, but was being pressured to replace him with a more bankable star, which is when he was eyeing both Hayden and Eminem. He started looking at Hayden more seriously and I quote Liman here:

"At that point, I had already met Hayden and had fallen in love with Hayden," he recalled. "It was one of those things where the studio, with all things being equal, would rather put a bigger name in the movie [and wanted Eminem]. At some point, I just put my foot down and said, 'I love Hayden.'"

I personally did not appreciate the lack of knowledge of David. He operated with brute force mostly and his planning skills were nill. This greatly reduced the depth of the story. I would have much preferred the story from Jamie Bell's Perspective.
Also, Are they immune from electricity killing them? because I am sure he was tossd into electric wires.

The filming style of Jumper made me feel like i myself was jumping around, which was cool. Also Christensen’s lines were as short as possible, which was ideal for the movie’s overall quality.

tMF certainly has its eyes on a number of talented actors- Matthew Goode, Giovanni Ribisi, Nick Stahl and more. At the moment, we have below our latest profiles, with more coming up soon!

It would seem hard to talk about Casey Affleck without mentioning his brother Ben or vice versa. The brothers have been the subject of many articles - from their looks and their relationships to Ben’s decision to cast his brother in Gone Baby Gone and the completely different career paths both guys took on: Casey remained oblivious to the glamour and glitz of Hollywood, while Ben adjusted to the glare of being in the spotlight. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers - The 30-year old Irish actor is known for speaking his mind- he is quite vocal about a number of issues- from the failings of the film industry to dealing with directors with huge egos to the irrelevance of celebrities & the lack of real talent in some of today’s biggest box-office stars. Not many people are blessed with the opportunity to enter a deeply rewarding and exciting career. In the case of Michael Angarano, it has been like that since he was 5 years old. As a young model, he was exposed early to the hustle and bustle of a glam job. Not surprisingly, he began his successful transition into acting a couple of years later. [ read more ]

Kostja Ullmann: Taking on such a challenging role is not a new departure for the actor. After appearing in a variety of shows on German television, Ullmann was offered the role of Achim, one of the leads in Marco Kreuzpaintner’s Summer Storm. [ read more ]
