Expect the French to deliver the goods! That's definitely the case when it comes to movies exploring some of the most controversial (and even taboo) subjects that Hollywood would not even dare go near!

At the recent Cannes Film Festival, one movie - Private Lessons - became one of the most-talked about. Variety's Justin Chang provides a great summary:
Starting off as a wickedly seductive comedy about a naive youth and his unusually attentive tutor, only to take on increasingly insidious dimensions, "Private Lessons" more than confirms the rising talent of 33-year-old Belgian writer-director Joachim Lafosse. Lighter in tone and subject matter than his 2006 dysfunctional-family drama "Private Property," but no less incisive in its examination of toxic relational dynamics and the damage that can occur in the absence of boundaries, this is a sly, superbly knowing entertainment that looks set to earn high critical marks and admission to offshore arthouses.
Aside from the movie, tMF is also thrilled to feature one of its stars - the sixteen-year-old French newcomer Jonas Bloquet. With an appealingly youthful charm, Bloquet also exudes a sensuality which reminds me of Isild le Besco, but he is definitely masculine! Bloquet plays Jonas, a young student who always flunked at school, but who is nonetheless an aspiring tennis player. Enter Jonathan Zaccaï (The Beat that My Heart Skipped) as an acquaintance who becomes the youngster's mentor after parental support falls away.

THE VINTNER'S LUCK

Two of today's most talented young actors, rising French stars Gaspard Ulliel and Jérémie Renier, will play pivotal roles in the new Niki Caro film called The Vintner's Luck.
