Definitely one of the most exciting and talented actors we have today is British-born Jim Sturgess. The 26-year old actor has been hogging the news with such movies as The Other Boleyn Girl and the upcoming 21.

Of course, you'll remember Jim very well if you've watched last year's Across the Universe. If not, this film may be a good introduction to this amazing actor.

There's an awesome Jim Sturgess article by Melanie Pimentel that has just recently been launched at ABC News Now.

Says Pimentel:

Sturgess was in the court of Henry VIII and an entirely different world of decadence, shooting "The Other Boleyn Girl" when the call came to audition for "21."

"I was really stuck out in the middle of nowhere, in some old castle somewhere in rural England,'' Sturgess said. "I had to run around and find someone with a camcorder and film myself and put myself on tape.''

He sent away the tape and thought that would be the end of it.

"I really didn't expect anything was going to come of it," he said. [ read more ]

Here's another, equally engrossing read on Sturgess. From the NY Times' Lynn Hirschberg:

He’s handsome, a little goofy, he can sing and act, and if Jim Sturgess, who is English, can do a credible American accent, his movie-star future seems certain. In “Across the Universe,” he deftly anchored the film and managed to channel both Paul McCartney and John Lennon. “When I heard they were making a film with music from the Beatles, I thought, What a terrible idea,” he told me over breakfast at the Mercer hotel in New York. “After we finished shooting, I had withdrawal symptoms: I kept thinking, Why is no one on the street singing? I wanted to burst into song.” [ read more ]

It was said that Sturgess grew up in a small village and discovered performing, often using play practices as an excuse to skip classes. That's better than being a bum, right?

More from Jim Sturgess:

No, not really and when you come from England, the only real kind of gambling that you do is, you know, you bet on the horses or you put some money on the dogs or there’s a machine in a pub or something like that, but that is honestly as far into gambling as I kind of got. We just don’t have a place like Vegas anywhere near England, so yeah it was just a whole new world for me in every way possible.

That's Jim answering a question from his interview at Ain't It Cool. [ read more ]

Sturgess will next be seen in Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over, about immigrants of different nationalities struggling to achieve legal status in Los Angeles, and in Fifty Dead Men Walking. According to IMDb, the film is:

...based on Martin McGartland's shocking real life story. Martin is a young lad from west Belfast in the late 1980s who is recruited by the British Police to spy on the IRA. He works his way up the ranks as a volunteer for the IRA whilst feeding information to his British handler and saving lives in the process, until one day he is exposed, captured and tortured to within an inch of his life. He escaped dramatically by throwing himself from a tower block window and is still in hiding today.

tMF certainly has its eyes on a number of talented actors- Matthew Goode, Giovanni Ribisi, Nick Stahl and more. At the moment, we have below our latest profiles, with more coming up soon!

It would seem hard to talk about Casey Affleck without mentioning his brother Ben or vice versa. The brothers have been the subject of many articles - from their looks and their relationships to Ben’s decision to cast his brother in Gone Baby Gone and the completely different career paths both guys took on: Casey remained oblivious to the glamour and glitz of Hollywood, while Ben adjusted to the glare of being in the spotlight. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers - The 30-year old Irish actor is known for speaking his mind- he is quite vocal about a number of issues- from the failings of the film industry to dealing with directors with huge egos to the irrelevance of celebrities & the lack of real talent in some of today’s biggest box-office stars. Not many people are blessed with the opportunity to enter a deeply rewarding and exciting career. In the case of Michael Angarano, it has been like that since he was 5 years old. As a young model, he was exposed early to the hustle and bustle of a glam job. Not surprisingly, he began his successful transition into acting a couple of years later. [ read more ]

Kostja Ullmann: Taking on such a challenging role is not a new departure for the actor. After appearing in a variety of shows on German television, Ullmann was offered the role of Achim, one of the leads in Marco Kreuzpaintner’s Summer Storm. [ read more ]
