August 20, 2008: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. BEN BARNES! tMF salutes you and may you have more birthdays to come! Here's our small tribute to the young and promising actor! - - - While you might have enjoyed watching Ben Barnes in the recent The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian or in the much earlier Stardust (where he had a fairly small role), you would be more impressed if you happened to watch Bigga than Ben. - - -
![]() - - - Film Background: It's interesting to note that this movie was a collaboration between the British and the Russians. if you're not aware, both countries 'enjoyed' icy diplomatic relations due to the so-called spy scandal which led to a number of diplomatic row between Moscow and Downing Street. Anyway, here's the report from Anna Malpas who gives a nice background about the book and how it became a movie: A slang-filled diary narrating the adventures of two Russian dropouts in London won a prestigious literary prize in 2000. Now the book has been turned into a low-budget, English-language film, "Bigga Than Ben," with a cast of British and Russian actors including Andrei Chadov and Ben Barnes. It is set to premiere at the Cinequest Film Festival in California next month. Visit the official movie site here. We reported earlier that Ben Barnes was part of the National Theatre's production of The History Boys in the UK. However, his role in Prince Caspian conflicted with his schedule for the play and it was then that he decided to leave History Boys to concentrate on the Narnia role. - - -
![]() - - - Awesome shoots! Get to see more of the actor in this awesome photoshoots from Factory. [ click for the link ] An unknown on the brink of fame? Quite appropriate for the actor, I think. Says Brooke Barnes (no relation to Ben): Barnes is a polite 26-year-old who, until Walt Disney Pictures came calling in February 2007, was struggling in all the typical ways fledgling actors struggle. Despite the splashy outdoor advertising campaign, he is in many ways still living that life. What's Next? Stuart Kemp, from the Hollywood Reporter, has the latest on Ben: Ben Barnes, currently on screens as Prince Caspian, will lay down his sword after being cast to play Oscar Wilde's iconic character Dorian Gray in an adaptation of the author's novel, "The Picture of Dorian Gray."
