There are two young actors cast in Paul Weitz's Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant who are definitely making waves - Josh Hutcherson and Chris Massoglia.

Perhaps you are more familiar with Josh, since he did quite a number of high-profiles films - Zathura, Bridge to Terabithia and Journey to the Center of the Earth, among others. While Chris started acting via television, and Joe Dante's The Hole and The Vampire's Assistant are his only work on the big screen, which is not bad actually. In fact, his roles in both films are lead roles.

Both are definitely qualified for the updated Top 50 Hottest Young Actors list, but can they muster enough votes to grab a ranking?

Says Josh in an interview when asked about his acting and not having 'stage parents':

My parents actually didn't want me to act at all! They thought it was a really bad idea. [Laughs] Basically, when I was eight years old, my parents wouldn't help me out so I took the initiative and called an agency in the Yellow Pages. That was back home in Kentucky, which is definitely a smaller market for movies. I met with an acting coach who came down from New York and he said I was good and that we should go out to California to do pilot season. We had no idea what pilot season was, of course, and my parents were like, "No, Josh, you said you wanted to get into acting and you're already acting here. Just go back to playing tee ball." I was eight.

Eventually we went to California; I had to beg them, and they gave me one year to try it - which is crazy, because some of the greatest actors alive had to work for years before they got their first job as, like, a background artist, you know? But I was very fortunate, and I got a TV movie, a commercial, and a pilot within my first six months here. It definitely took off pretty quickly and thank God it did, because if it didn't, I'd be back home in high school not doing what I'm meant to do. [ read more ]

Says Chris on making The Vampire's Assistant:

One of the best things, for me, about doing this movie was just working with all these guys. Being able to do your first movie with a bunch of Oscar nominated actors and actresses, and director, is a really big privilege. I remember the first day I was working with John, I was a little intimidated. And, (director) Paul [Weitz] came up and just started talking to me, and we got my mind off the subject. And then, John came up and we had a really cool conversation, and it was fine.

It was a lot of fun. Yeah, I asked John a lot of questions, throughout filming, like "What was it like for you? How would you deal with certain situations?" The biggest thing for me was just being able to observe how he worked with the crew members and different cast members that would come and go. It was fun, not only ‘cause I got to see how he acted professionally in what he does, but I also got to see how he related personally with all the other cast and crew. It was really awesome for me. Up and coming Films: Chris will be doing a thriller called The Hole, from filmmaker Joe Dante. He did an interview with Shock Till You Drop and its quite an introduction to the young actor:

Shortly after shooting Cirque Du Freak, Chris Massoglia landed the lead in Joe Dante's latest chiller The Hole which transported the young actor from the warm environs of New Orleans (where he co-starred alongside John C. Reilly) to Vancouver for Dante's 3-D creation. ShockTillYouDrop.com recently met with Massoglia in Orlando, Florida where he was touring Universal's Halloween Horror Nights. Not only did we talk with him about Cirque Du Freak but we got Massoglia to open up a bit about The Hole and his biggest fear (a theme that's played upon in Dante's film).
