Romance and adventures of vampires and werewolves may not be her forte, but Catherine Hardwicke remains a sought-after filmmaker with a vision. Working with Emile Hirsch for her next project - a modern rendition of Hamlet - Hardwicke is keen for Emile to sing on the big screen - something the young actor has never done before. This is not the first time for Hardwicke and Hirsch to work together. In Lords of Dogtown, Hardwicke assembled a group of talented young actors - including John Robinson, Victor Rasuk, Michael Angarano and Hirsch to portray young and ambitious skateboarders who became legends of the sport. The result is a gritty, exhilarating modern day adventure of young men doing what they love best. Hirsch gave one of the most absorbing performances among the group. With her reputation as a filmmaker who truly understands young talents, it's no wonder Hardwicke is thrilled to work with Emile once again. But why require Emile to sing? Reports MTV on what sort of Hamlet movie Hardwicke envisions:
Hirsch added that they will intentionally lower the ages of all the cast. A decision that is based on making this Hamlet the modern young version When I heard the name Kurt Cobain mentioned as an inspiration, I can't help but remember an actor I have found quite annoying of late - Michael Pitt. I think Pitt played the perfect Kurt Cobain. I dunno if he can do Hamlet, but the guy is quite an actor, notwithstanding his irritating commentaries about 'inferior' horror flicks and being cast in a Michael Haneke film... Anyway, Pitt can give Hirsch quite a competition! But Hirsch rules all the way! Says Hirsch:
And yes, the duo also mentioned another 'inspiration'. They are about to incorporate certain qualities of the film, 'The Shining' by the late Stanley Kubrick. How and Why? I'm pretty sure we'll get the details soon enough. - - - Hirsch takes Woodstock, plays a Nam vet and do mud slides! Woodstock is celebrating its 40th anniversary and what better way to remember this unique musical event? A movie by Ang Lee entitled 'Taking Woodstock'.
What the movie is all about: Working as an interior designer in Greenwich Village, Elliot Teichberg (Demetri Martin) is also still glued to the family business out of a sense of - to save his overbearing parents (Imelda Staunton, Henry Goodman) from running their dumpy Catskills motel, El Monaco, into the ground. Upon hearing that a planned music and arts festival has lost its permit from a neighbouring town, Elliot calls producer Michael Lang (Jonathan Groff) at Woodstock Ventures to offer his family's motel to the promoters and generate some much-needed business. Elliot also introduces Lang to his neighbor Max Yasgur (Eugene Levy), who operates a 600-acre dairy farm down the road. Soon the Woodstock staff is moving into the El Monaco, the locals are unhappy - and half a million people are on their way to Yasgur's farm for "3 days of Peace & Music in White Lake." Joining Henry Goodman, Liev Schrieber, Demetri Martin and Paul Dano, Hirsch plays a tortured Vietnam vet named Billy, which Andrew Urban of Urban Cinefile described as one 'good performance'. - - - What's on your mind?
