Larry411 and I were busy exchanging tweets early today. Our topic - Australian actor Xavier Samuel, who will play Riley on the 3rd installment of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. I find this character quite interesting, to say the least.
- - -
 - - - |
The wiki on Twilight characters has the following about Riley:
As a vampire, Riley is tall and muscular with bright red eyes and blond hair. Victoria bites and changes Riley when he is approximately Bella's age in Eclipse. Once Riley ages and gains some control, he helps to lead Victoria's army of newborn vampires. He performs his work faithfully because of his love for Victoria, which she pretends to return. However, in a battle between the army of newborns and the Cullens at the end of Eclipse, Edward voices Riley's concern that Victoria has been lying to him. [ read more ]

There is something tragic about the character. How would you feel if you love someone and you're only being used and that you'll soon die without having to actually feel being loved? I remember Xavier in September - which happens to be a dramatic film which "tells the story of two 16 year old boys, one black and one white, whose pure and unaffected friendship begins to fall apart under the pressures of a changing social and political climate." Xavier did an exceptional job in the movie, so I'm not wondering why they cast him for the role of Riley - he is perfect! More of Xavier Samuel, some exciting movie clips and photos after the jump!

tMF is in constant lookout for the next breakout star and we're happy to discover and write about some of the most talented young French actors today - Gaspard Ulliel, Louis Garrel, Malik Zidi and the two mega-talented leading men - Romain Duris and Melvil Poupaud. So now, we have another rising star - and he's quite a looker.
- - -
 - - - |
With a signature hairstyle (watch out Robert Pattinson!), Francois Civil is carefully taking all the right steps on his way to acclaim. But he's no longer an up and coming actor to some and the Disney channel (via this show) has something to do with this early brush with fame. If American teens scream for the Jonas brothers, their French counterparts are doing the same for Francois Civil.

There are 2 big reasons why you need to know more about award-winning Belgian actress Deborah Francois... First, she's the star of three highly-acclaimed movies - Cannes big winner, the Dardenne Brothers' The Child (L'Enfant), the dramatic-thriller The Page Turner (La Tourneuse de pages) and the recent Sundance favorite and François’ first English-speaking film — Unmade Beds, by Argentine director-writer Alexis Dos Santos.
- - -
 - - - |
The movie has earned critical acclaim after screening at the recent Sundance festival. “Unmade Beds” uses an unconventional format, mixing still photography, live action and musical performances from underground British bands such as (We Are) Performance, Connan Mockasin and Plaster of Paris to narrate the intersecting lives of a group of young bohemians in a London loft. Second, she's one award-winning actress with such intensity and dedication to her craft, you need to watch her perform and add the fact that she's simply beautiful with such a refreshing personality.

Do you remember that young boy who starred with Omar Sharif in Monsieur Ibrahim? He's a young French actor and it was his first ever feature film, and he was incredible! What's his name again? Yes, its Pierre Boulanger! Oh, how about that naughty young boy who was cast alongside Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett in Notes on a Scandal, his name if I recall correctly is Andrew Simpson, where is he now? How about that young and exciting German actor who portrayed the teenage Adolf Hitler in Mein Kampf? Yes, Tom Shilling! And that awesome young guy in AfterSchool? I need to know if he has done more movies! Ezra Miller!

"They ought to be in MORE pictures!" seems to be the perfect expression for these gifted young actors who have shown such talents but remain relatively unknown and waiting for more movie audiences to discover them... o each his own. That's the second time I said that. Anyway, I'm referring to this young actor's reaction about the casting of High School Musical, the lead role eventually went to Zac Efron, and as they say, the rest is history.... But let us look back at one of the actors considered for the part of Troy. He's currently featured at GQ and it seems he got a lot of great stuff up his sleeves...
[The part of Troy] was down to five guys and then I got offered a part in this amazing Robin Williams movie. And I thought to myself: Fly to Vancouver and meet the director for this Robin Williams movie, or stay and finish the auditions for the Disney Channel movie? So I didn't even go to the last audition. I heard a rumor that I was their favorite, but I never made it to the end. I mean I would have had a blast doing it. But I'm so happy for Zac, he's the only guy for that. [ read more ]
I've heard of Hunter Parrish before but this is the first time I actually made a serious effort to learn more about him.

Someone recently said, "The cash is in America, in Hollywood to be exact, but the talents are here in Britain". I don't know if you'll agree, but it seems to me, when Hollywood is looking for the next big star, many turn to the U.K. It's a veritable gold mine of talents - James McAvoy, Ben Whishaw, Emily Blunt, Andrew Garfield, Jamie Bell and now Carey Mulligan.
- - -

- - -
Poised to become this year's most celebrated young actress, Carey Mulligan, will be seen in four high-profile films - Michael Mann's crime-drama Public Enemies (with Johnny Depp), Jim Sheridan's much-anticipated film Brothers (featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman), Shana Feste's The Greatest and Mark Romanek's Never Let Me Go, where Mulligan will act alongside Keira Knightley, Sally Hawkins, and Charlotte Rampling.
Introducing... !: As this year's UK representative in EFP's European Shooting Stars, there can be no better introduction for Carey Mulligan. Born in 1985, Carey has already appeared on stage on both sides of the Atlantic. After some notable performances on television, the 23-year old actress went on to act alongside some of cinema's most talented. Says the actress::
I was born in London, lived in Germany until I was 8. My father ran hotels. And then back. Now I’m just outside London. I acted all the way through school. My first job was Pride and Prejudice when I was 18 turning 19, and then I just carried on after that.
More of Carey Mulligan and clips from her movie, An Education, right after the jump!

When someone listens to Slayer, Edith Piaf, Nirvana and Katy Perry, I'm impressed! But when that someone happens to be internet savvy, loves to read books (as diverse as the choice of music), wears an eye patch and is not afraid to speak out and is an actress who loves variety in her roles as well, then I'm a converted fan!
Oh, who is she? She's Kat Dennings!
A Rising Star: She started in television -making appearances in shows like CSI, ER and Sex and the City. But it was in Charlie Bartlett that she really made such a good impression. As Susan, she plays the love interest of Anton Yelchin, who is playing the title role.
Kendra @Jake Weird posted a review of the film, and was quite specific on Denning's role, exactly what I remember!
A pretty drama student, Susan Gardner (Kat Dennings), mistakes Charlie for a teacher when she sees him wearing a tie, and she is immediately attracted by his quirky manners, offhand remarks, and his skills in improvising theatre comedy. She is the daughter of the school's principal Nathan Gardner (Robert Downey Jr.), with whom she has a difficult relationship.
Maybe this unsatisfactory family bond is one of the reasons for the mutual attraction between Susan and Charlie. [ read more ]
I have to agree. That scene alone was enough for me to remember Dennings, and it's just a supporting role. In her more high-profile movie, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Dennings plays Norah opposite Michael Cera who plays Nick.My favorite reviewer, Karina Longworth @Spout said:
From its animated notebook-scrawl opening credits to a final scene in which two people finally, effortlessly unburden themselves of a MacGuffin and just decide to be together, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (based on the young adult novel by Rachel Cohn and David Leviathan) seems to have been packaged in the hopes that the lightning that made Juno an unignorable commodity a cultural phenomena will strike twice. Nick and Norah isn't quite the assault to the teen romance genre that Juno was, and that's both good and bad. Michael Cera's Nick, Kat Denning's Norah, and their assorted pals drift fluidly between irony-as-defense and taking both themselves, and the idea of love, very seriously. The result is a film that's much more of a traditional teen romance, but also a more honest one.
I was amused and tried to maintain an open mind with Juno, but in Nick and Norah, I was simply enjoying myself.
