Michael Cera's Youth In Revolt was originally set with an October 2009 release date, but The Weinstein Company pushed the already-delayed teen comedy further back - and is now set on January 15, 2010. Aside from Cera, it also stars Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta and Justin Long, among others.

Says EW.com:

The movie, in which Cera plays a lovelorn teenager who imagines a ladies-man alter ego for himself, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival to positive reviews this month, after having been shuffled around the release schedule for some time now. "This is in no way a slight to the film," says Liz Biber, EVP of Publicity for The Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films. "It screened fabulously in Toronto and now we want to give the film more time to build word of mouth and maybe even hit a few more festivals. The movie will be an excellent piece of counterprogramming against the heavier Academy fare in January." [ read more ]

Why the multiple re-scheduling? For strategic purposes. TWC plans to launch other movies on its roster ahead of Cera's movie - The Road, which was re-set from October to November and will compete with Nine. A Single Man, fresh from its truimphant Venice premiere is scheduled in December, just in time for awards consideration.

Back to the film. Peter Deburge at Variety wrote a positive review and said:

An "Arrested Development"-age Michael Cera would have been perfect for "Youth in Revolt," being the firsthand adventures of sex-obsessed 14-year-old Nick Twisp, but sometimes the material is so right for an older star (like Dustin Hoffman in "The Graduate"), you just have to accept the stretch. From "Superbad" to "Juno," Cera's certainly perfected his socially awkward, virginity-averse adolescent shtick, and while "Youth" doesn't echo the deeper themes of those pics, Cera and his gifted comic co-stars elevate the mediocre source material into a semi-iconic coming-of-age story. Oct. 30 Dimension release looks promising, though its R rating excludes the ideal teen aud.

Adapted by Gustin Nash (whose "Charlie Bartlett" reflects a similar adolescent smart-aleck attitude from the opposite end of the economic spectrum), the arc of "Youth in Revolt" ages Twisp two years and encompasses the first three volumes in C.D. Payne's six-book series. The novels, presented as Nick's journals, document the character's oft-recurring erection and ideas on where he'd like to stick it; indeed, the pic opens with a masturbation session vigorous enough to establish the mindset of its libidinous protag. About the Movie: Youth In Revolt is an outrageous and heartwarming tale of Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) and his quest to win the heart of Sheeni (newcomer Portia Doubleday) and hopefully lose his virginity along the way. Based on C.D. Payne's cult-hit novel of the same name, Youth In Revolt is directed by Miguel Arteta ("The Good Girl") and features an all-star ensemble cast including: Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta, Justin Long, Jean Smart, Ari Graynor, Fred Willard, Zach Galifianakis, Mary Kay Place and more.
