Updates: We last reported about this new movie back in 2007. In March this year, it will finally be in theatres! I would expect both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum to do awesome, since both have been doing great. Levitt is of course, a big big tMF favorite and Tatum, who was so terrific in A Guide to Recognizing your Saints was listed in our top 50 hottest young actors. Hopefully Ryan Philippe can also deliver. Not that we doubt him, he was quite good in last year's Breach. - - -
- - - Kimberly Peirce, the innovative director who made headlines with Boys Don't Cry, is generally credited with making Hillary Swank one of the most sought-after actors today. Peirce also propelled Chloë Sevigny into the A-list of young actresses ready to take on challenging and exciting roles from indie filmmakers. Now in a much-anticipated second feature, she picked four of Hollywood's up-and-coming young actors - Ryan Philippe, Channing Tatum, Abbie Cornish and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Based on a true story, "Stop-Loss" centers on decorated Iraq war hero Sgt. Brandon King (Ryan Phillippe), a soldier who makes a celebrated return to his small Texas hometown following his tour of duty and is then called to duty again in Iraq through the military's "stop-loss" procedure. Brandon tries to resume the life he left behind with the help and support of his loving family, and his best friend, Steve (Channing Tatum), who served with Brandon in Iraq. - - -
- - - Alongside their wartime buddies, they try to come to terms with civilian life. Then, against Brandon’s will, under a measure called “Stop Loss” the army extends his enlistment indefinitely and forces him back to Iraq. This destroys Brandon’s entire world and sends him to one of the only people he can trust: his childhood friend's fiancée, Michele (Abbie Cornish). Michele becomes Brandon’s confidante and accomplice as he races across the U.S. – a fugitive from justice in the country he fought to protect – in search of a way out of his predicament. Also on the cast are Rob Brown (Finding Forrester, Coach Carter), Victor Rasuk (Raising Victor Vargas) and Timothy Olyphant (Live Free or Die Hard).
