Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds will hit theaters in a few hours, and they want us to tweet it up. I'm sure it'll give Tarantino some record of sorts at the box office and even without a promotion, I'm pretty sure it will receive its share of tweets. QT's fans will make sure of that!

A recent hit, which also received a great boost from the positive tweets is the Peter Jackson produced District 9. Even James Cameron's Avatar, which is still in production, was not spared as the promotional site made a 'debacle'. Says Adam Ostrow at Mashable:
James Cameron's newest creation, Avatar, isn't due out until December, but the release of its trailer this morning on Apple's website (and announced on Twitter) seems likely to make it perhaps the most discussed movie- not- due-out- for- 4-months we've ever seen. Part of the reason, unfortunately, is that demand for the trailer is so high that it's not working for many people and they're tweeting their frustration. But it's also a film with huge expectations - Cameron is of course one of the most successful directors in history with films like Terminator and Titantic to his credit - and Avatar is supposedly one of the most technically sophisticated movies we've ever seen. It's the problem of not properly estimating people's expectations, I guess... Oh, remember Bruno? Yeah right...

Adds Stan Schroeder also at the awesome social media guide site:
... District 9, a Peter Jackson produced sci-fi movie whose title has been a steady member of Twitter trends for the last two days. The buzz is mostly positive, and it seems to be reflected everywhere. The movie's IMDB rating is an incredible 8.8/10, and the box office numbers for the relatively cheap hit (the estimated budget is 30 million dollars) are great. [ read more ]

Talk about the power of social networking. The great thing about this is that even if you've read a bad review of an upcoming movie and you've seen it too and disagree with the reviewer, you can tweet the same and even launch a campaign to promote the movie, that is if you're influential enough in the twitter universe.

Why would people simply believe the tweets? With or without tweeter, a bad movie will remain what it is all along... a bad movie and people know that. That goes with a good movie too. I've seen Bruno, and just like the review posted by Jeremy here, it's not as impresive as Cohen's previous movie.

District 9 (read our review by Blake Griffin) is a welcome surprise for me. I know a lot of people recommended the movie via twitter and while it got me interested, one simply cannot assume that District 9 is now a box office success simply because it received a lot of tweets. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is - the movie is awesome, and that's it.

There are so many Twitter related sites, and more will be launched soon. Trending seems to be one of the most interesting topics. For viewers interested in some movie/ celebrity Twitter sentiment, there's TweetFeel, and I love the way they do things over there! I've checked a couple of movies, and the latest reactions from Twitter users. Its about time we have something like this!

What's on your mind? Are you going to watch Inglourious Basterds and tweet about it later? How about District 9? Oh, are you using Twitter? Let us know what you think!
