Welcome!

On behalf of the team, welcome to the How To Be Promotional Blitz site!

Let us tell you about the site.  Initiated by tMF (the Movie-Fanatic), this promotional site is the work of volunteers who aim to provide a much-needed buzz for filmmakers Oliver Irving and Justin Kelly initial movie offering, How To Be.

With a cast that includes Robert Pattinson, Rebecca Pidgeon, Jeremy Hardy, Johnny White Mike Pearce and Powell Jones, the movie is a comedy about Arthur, a twenty something who moves back in with his parents, hits a quarter-life crisis and enlists the help of a self-help guru.  It's a timely look at the increasingly common phenomena of grown-up children living at home, frustrated creativity and self help.

In the Independent Film world, we know that sometimes these wonderful films don't always get the recognition and distribution they deserve. However, in doing a little research I found that occasionally fans can help remedy this.

How, you ask? It could be as simple as clicking 'send' on an email. Oh! Well look here...a letter, already drafted up and itching to be sent to movie theatres and film distributors... [ read more ]

The Story of How To Be
BEYOND THE FILM: Self-esteem, Part II

self-esteem-trainingAfter the last article about self-esteem, have you re-thought about how you felt about yourself? Did you ask yourself, “Am I worth it?” Maybe you were wondering where your self-doubt came from? For many, it is actually from the media. Believe it or not, you are hit with thousands of self-esteem media attacks daily. They are usually based on our appearance. A person’s appearance is often one of the most popular issues to bring down one’s self-esteem.

Picture the glamorous background dancers in music videos, the perfect skin of commercial models on TV, the super skinny models in fashion magazines and the unattainable looks on the red carpet in Hollywood. Well, I guess those aren’t unattainable if you happen to have money and a stylist. However, for the average person, we are constantly slammed with media to make us want to change what we look like. This ultimately changes how we feel about ourselves.

In keeping with our tradition of bringing you more information on the sub-plots and themes in the film, here's a great article on Agoraphobia with more information as to what Art's best friend suffers from in How To Be.

In the film How to Be, Art’s (Robert Pattinson) friend, Ronny (Johnny White) suffers from an anxiety disorder called agoraphobia.

What exactly is agoraphobia, and what does it do to the person and the people around them?

BEYOND THE FILM: Life Coaching Process

This seems like a great time for a little How To Be love!

pattinson-jones full sizeOne of the story-lines in How To Be revolves around Art having a quarter life crisis and seeking help from a Life Coach. We at the Promotional Blitz want to delve into the many story-lines and bring you information on every aspect of the film.

Without seeing the film and knowing whether or not it helps Art, what are your thoughts on Life Coaches? What are they and what do they do? Let's read what our writer Patti has to tell us...

- - -

You’re not quite satisfied with your life and you decide to work with a life coach. What can you expect?

People who go to a life coach should not expect the coach to come up with all the answers. Life coaches believe that the client has all the answers that they need inside themselves. They just need some help in bringing these answers out. A coach will help a client shift their thinking on a fundamental level – about how they view themselves and their life, making change possible. Life coaches help their clients on the path of self-actualization and assist them in setting and achieving their goals in life. Coaches don’t give advice; the client is responsible for coming up with the answers themselves. “The coach is a mirror, a source of accountability, rather than a consultant offering advice” stated Lisa Pisano, a coaching trainer with the Coach Training Alliance, in an article on billbaren.com.

BEYOND THE FILM: Self-Esteem, Part 1

Here at the How To Be Blitz, our goal is to bring you information on the film and festivals as always, but we also want to take a deeper look into the film's themes. Self-Esteem, or a lack-thereof, plays a big role in the choices that Art makes in the film. So why not take a closer look at how self-esteem plays a role in each of our lives...

Have you ever seen those L’oreal Hair Color commercials on TV? Their tag line is, “Because you’re worth it.” This is what self-esteem is all about. According to Merriam-Webster, self-esteem is “a confidence and satisfaction in oneself.” Simply, am I worth it? It isn’t about achievements but how you see and treat yourself.

Just like the character Art in How To Be, some young adults find themselves—by choice or circumstance—bouncing back to the familiar place they called home throughout their childhood. So is this generation experiencing their own quarter-life crisis , complete with an honest desire to find themselves and their place in the world?
