After what the festival organizers describe as a "Beatles-esque response", the second 5:15pm screening of How To Be on March 8th at the Chicago International Music and Movie Festival has sold out, with a limited number of seats reserved for CIMMfest Weekend Pass holders on a first come, first served basis. Due to the number of requests for information, the festival has posted additional information about how the screenings will work:
- - -

- - -
REMEMBER: There is a suggested donation of $8 when you pick up your ticket; you don't HAVE TO pay, and you can pay less than $8 if you want, but keep in mind that your donation will help keep the festival around until next year, and maybe Robert Pattinson will be in another movie then. And you might look like a cheapskate in front of your friends if you don't pay anything.
THE VENUE HOLDS A TOTAL OF 290 SEATS FOR EACH SCREENING. All 290 for the 3:00 screening are already taken. For the 5:15 screening, 215 seats are already taken, and the other 75 seats are being held for CIMMfest Weekend Pass holders. See below on how that will work.
IF YOU RESERVED A TICKET OR TICKETS FOR THE 3:00 SCREENING
Come to the Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington, second floor GAR Hall will-call station, well in advance of the screening. We will have a list of the names of people who reserved tickets. We check off your name, you get in line for seating, and the first people in line get the best seats. If seats are unclaimed at 5 minutes after showtime, we will release them to the public. There will be a 20-minute short film shown before the 3:00 screening.
IF YOU RESERVED A TICKET OR TICKETS FOR THE 5:15 SCREENING
It works mostly the same as the 3:00 screening--if you have a ticket reserved, just come early, tell us your name, get in line, and when the doors open you can take a seat.
There you go. So be sure to get there early and be prepared to support the festival with your $8.00 donation. Weekend pass information is available here. |

After a quick sellout of the initial How To Be screening at the Chicago International Music and Movies Festival, a second screening has been added later that day:
March 8, 2009 5:15 pm Chicago Cultural Center
Tickets are free, with a suggested $8.00 donation at the door. You can grab your tickets online here while supplies last. As quickly as the first batch sold out, I would act quickly. |

Cinequest San Jose Film Festival interviewed writer and director Oliver Irving about How To Be for the CQ Central website. They asked their five essential questions for every director.
- - -
1: Tell us a little about the origins of HOW TO BE, from writing to financing.
Having left film school I was looking around me at my peers and decided to collect the funny anecdotes they all had and perhaps make light (or cruelly poke fun, depending on how you look at it) of these almost grown ups floundering around. I also got into reading as many self-help and therapy books as I could get my hands on.
2: It appears that the film has been screened at numerous other festivals; how has it been received? Do audiences respond differently at some festivals than they do at others?
Well…all the festivals in the states have been fantastic. We have had a really warm and engaging relationship with our US audiences.

Friday's screening of How To Be in Jakarta, Indonesia was "massively successful" according to the organizers. The screening was the first showing of the film for the public in Asia.
Kinokuniya Books was filled beyond capacity, with people asking to be allowed in. The film was enjoyed by all, with virtually 100% of the audience giving the film a five-out-of-five rating on their rating cards.
One participant said, "It's so worth it! I traveled hours of traffic -- so worth it!"
Kinokuniya Books has a second free screening scheduled for the public on the 16th of January, and will also be holding a third screening, on a date yet to be announced. All the screenings are filled.
The film was also shown for the media and VIPs earlier in the week. We'll have a report on that very soon. Check back! |
