Described as "an evocative and compelling journey through the sunburnt landscape of Western Australia," Dirt Music is a new film by Philip Noyce starring Colin Farrel and Rachel Weisz. - - -
- - - IMDb reported that Heath Ledger was supposed to play the lead character, but with his hectic schedule, he opted to concentrate instead on The Dark Knight. Nicole Kidman was also reported to have been interested in one of the lead roles, Georgie, which eventually was given to Weisz. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Tim Winton, who is regarded as one of Australia's most renowned fiction writers. Liz Fraser reports: Dirt Music centres around the complex triangular relationship between three burnt-out and emotionally hurt residents of White Point, an isolated small fishing village, north of Perth on the Western Australia coast. Although fictional, White Point is the classic insular and hierarchical small community where outsiders are viewed with suspicion and there is a threatening undercurrent of violence. When Jim discovers their secret, Luther is forced to flee north to the tropics, leaving Jim and Georgie with the dregs of their empty relationship. Jim and Georgie follow Luther up North and search him out in his isolated island hideaway, but we are never certain whether dangerous Jim is intent on forgiveness or revenge. Director Philip Noyce has a reputation for making some very exciting drama-thrillers, among them Catch a Fire, The Bone Collector and Clear and Present Danger.

I just loved A Home at the End of the World! I think it was one of Colin's best films, if not the best.
Thanks for the news about this film, I am not a big fan of Rachel Weisz but when I saw her in the Fountain, I was really impressed. I did not see The Constant Gardener, but i guess she deserved winning an award for that. she's kinda impressed me.

\"Love Can Be A Deadly Affair\"
I like the sound of this storyline. I have heard some people who have read the novel say that there isen't a real closure to the story...So, it will be interesting to see how this plays out onscreen. Will also be interesting to hear Colin do an Australian accent. This role will hopefully showcase Colin's great acting abilities, after the not so great reviews for Miami Vice.
This does sound like "one to watch", I agree. Thanks for the spotlight on this project Jed. I also think Weisz will be impressive in the upcoming 'The Lovely Bones' as well.

...
Dirt Music was a very compelling read and I'm really sorry Heath Ledger couldn't take the role of Luther. Nevertheless, I'll be looking forward to seeing this film.

...Written by LA Bennett on 18-07-2007 20:02 I have to admit, I'm somewhat in agreement as well, that I would have also really liked to see Heath Ledger in the lead role. I know Heath would have been outstanding once again. I trust that Colin will do a very good job in this role, and I'm anxious to see him in this.
