- - - Directed by Shekhar Kapur's 'The Golden Age', stars Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush and Clive Owen. Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush reprise the roles they originated in the Academy-award nominated 'Elizabeth'. Joining them is Clive Owen as Sir Walter Raleigh as well as Samantha Morton, Abbie Cornish, Jordi Molla and Rhys Ifans. 'The Golden Age' tells the thrilling tale of an era - the story of one woman's crusade to control love, crush enemies and secure her position as a beloved icon of the western world. As Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart conspires with Philip of Spain to topple the throne, Sir Francis Walsingham, Elizabeth's trusty advisor works tirelessly to protect her from the many plots and conspiracies against her. Preparing to go to war to defend her empire, Elizabeth struggles to balance royal duties with an unexpected vulnerability in her attraction to Raleigh. - - -
- - - The sequel will give a 'golden' opportunity for other talented actors to shine in their roles. Among them is Samantha Morton, who will play Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart and one of today's most promising actress, Abby Cornish (who was simply amazing in Candy, together with Heath Ledger). Of course, Clive Owen as Raleigh would be another major role for the talented actor, who made such an impression in Closer and Children of Men. The first Elizabeth movie was a blast, being British, I can't help but feel so proud of having such rich, colourful history- both the good and the bad, of course. We have conquered lands and get bombed, but still Londoners have survived and we have theatre and art! This new movie would be another celebration of our history and of a Queen deeply admired by its people! thanks for the feature!
