When the news was announced that Robert Pattinson will play Edward Cullen in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight, I had mixed feelings. You see, Kat (my partner at tMF) has read the book (she's actually read all of Ms. Meyer's novels to date!) and has been telling me how awesome Ms. Meyer's works are. She has some ideas regarding who should play Edward Cullen.

We had not heard of Mr. Pattinson until somebody told me that he's that guy from the Harry Potter film who got killed - Cedric Diggory. Now that he's been cast, we @tMF think he'll be a fantastic Edward Cullen! AND to top it all, he's also modeling, and with Jamie Strachan no less! (Strachan happens to be one of the most popular models we interviewed at ModelWatch).

Back to casting. There were similar news/tidbits during the time when Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire was into film production. Ms. Rice apparently had doubts about Tom Cruise playing her Vampire Lestat, but after seeing the movie, she decided Cruise was fine. It's great that Ms. Meyer is quite different from her fellow author.

"I am ecstatic with Summit's choice for Edward. There are very few actors who can look both dangerous and beautiful at the same time, and even fewer who I can picture in my head as Edward. Robert Pattinson is going to be amazing."

More on Robert Pattinson: He may have met his 'death' in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but in 'Twilight' he is immortal. Twilight is a young adult fantasy romance novel written by author Stephenie Meyer, originally published in hardcover in 2005.

The story is about seventeen-year-old Isabella Swan, a girl who moves to Forks, Washington and finds her life in danger when she falls in love with vampire Edward Cullen. We reported earlier that the character of Isabella Swan will be portrayed by Kristen Stewart. Pattinson already has a huge following after the Harry Potter film, but he is more than just a pretty face. He definitely aspires to be a great actor someday.

Says Pattinson:

"I aspire to be Jack Nicholson. I love every single mannerism. I used to try and be him in virtually everything I did, I don't know why. I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest when I was about 13, and I dressed like him. I tried to do his accent. I did everything like him. I think it's kind of stuck with me."

On the circumstances that paved the way to his decision to act:

"I never did acting at school. I was quite shy throughout my life. My dad and I were at a restaurant and noticed this group of pretty girls nearby and for some reason decided to ask where they had just been. They mentioned the local acting school and since then he nagged me about attending. At one point he said he would pay me which is pretty strange - I don't know what his intentions were, but I went. My dad said to me the other day: "I really am an artistic person". I was shocked as I never saw him as a creative. I think me and my sisters are living out that side of him as my sister is another creative person, she's a songwriter. "

We, Ashley, Jessica, Miranda, Dorinda, Aqua and me (Bella) think that Robert Pattinson would do a really really really great job, filming as Edward Cullen..!
However, we also think that it would match more if it was either Henry Cavill, nor Gaspard Ulliel, if they do it, we would love the movie! That doesn't mean that we dont like Robert Pattinson - we love him too, and that we think he is a perfect, gorgeous person, but it doesn't really match with him... We are soo sorry to say that we want Henry and Gaspard more,...

Thanks for the comment Bella! With regards to Gaspard being in Twilight....it so happens that both Twilight AND Gaspard's role in The Vintner's Luck both just started filming.

I really hadn't heard of Robert Pattinson either, and I'm perhaps also one of the few out there that hasen't seen a Potter movie. I agree Jed, if Stephenie the author is confident enough to express how well she thinks Mr. Pattinson will be playing the lead, I think that's saying alot.

The Twilight story is completely fresh and new to me, since I haven't read the book but, I certainly do like a vampire love story. We will be following this film closely indeed here @ tMF.

I agree that Robert Pattinson will make a decent Edward... though i was skeptical (and shocked) when i first heard that he's been casted as Edward. However, it would've been perfect if Tom Sturridge was casted instead of Robert... he just have this gorgeous but dangerous look that i picture Edward would have. And i loved his acting on Like Minds... totally creeped me out! Oh well, guess we'll just have to wait for the movie to come out and see for ourselves if he did a good job... or i'll pelt him with eggs! hehe anyway, thanks for the Twilight updates! keep up the good work!

I would just like to say I think Robert will be a FANTASTIC Edward Cullen. I understood CAvill was Stephenie's first choice but she even stated herself she has NEVER gotten the Gaspard thing AT ALL. If you have any doubts about Rob as Edward, I suggest you check out some of the special feature from Harry Poter GoF or interviews with him on YouTube, he is just such a funny sweet and laid back person, I think he will bring Edward to stunning life.

you all expected that the Cullen family would be gourgeous. Hey guys, come back to earth, they cant find a 17-yers.old guy AWESOM and actor... what werre you waiting for? a mini brad pitt?
the books are different for the movies guys, in the book Stephenie describe the Cullens like almost god and goddesess, but in REAL life, the directors cant find 17-years-old godess, they did what they could, and it was prety fine.

Really people, the Robert bashing is getting old, and continuing to complain about it is not going to change the fact that Robert IS Edward. Robert not only is HOT enough to play Edward, but his acting skills also got him the job! I mean would you really want an actor that is your idea of "hot", but can't act Edwards character worth beans? I'd like the actor to have BOTH qualities, and Robert has just that! Robert is going to be AMAZING, and I'm in support of him 100%.
As for the rest of the cast, I think they all look absolutely amazing, and the casting people for the movie could not have done a better job!

For those people who wanted Henry Cavill to play Edward, READ Stephenie Meyer's site. She says that Henry is too OLD to be Edward. Seriously, call yourselves fans? I support the cast 100%. It's not like you won't go and see the movie because the cast sucked. You'll still go and watch it.

Anyways, it is the 21st CENTURY! Technology is advanced, even if Robert Pattinson was acting and he had a big ZIT, there are things called COMPUTERS and EDITING. (It was just an example=).)

I personally believe that Robert Pattinson is an EXCELLENT choice for Edward and he will be AMAZING.

Get over it people, they're already halfway through the movie.

Okay, I'm not complaining or anything because I know I can't change anything anyway so what's the point? But I just want to say that I'm not very pleased with the cast, especially not the Cullens.
I'm all for not judging people by looks but to act one of Stephenie's vampires it isn't enough to be a good actor, in my opinion. I mean, they're all good-looking and stuff but just not that "above-average".
