It would not be fun anymore if we're to list Indiana Jones, The Dark Knight and Harry Potter, for many of you already knew of these movies coming up this 2008. So, we're listing down 5 movies that ought to provide some more thrills in the next few months!
"A genetic abnormality allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between 'Jumpers' and those who have sworn to kill them." To be released come Valentine's day, Jumper has all the makings of an awesome sci-fi thriller! Based on the Steven Gould novel of the same name and directed by Doug Liman, Jumper tells the story of a young man from a broken home that discovers he has the ability to teleport. In his quest for the man who he believes responsible for the death of his mother, he draws the attention of the National Security Agency and someone else with the same ability. The film is directed by Doug Liman and stars Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Bell and Rachel Bilson. - - -
"I think history is always more interested when told by the "losers" or those on the margins. This is because most conventional history is that of the "winners," so you get a different slant. But because she (Mary Boleyn) is badly treated by her family and by the king, it is possible to show her development from naive and trusting and very young girl, to a woman who is ready to turn her back on the court. The way she tells the story is also part of the story itself. " says author Philippa Gregory. Gregory is answering a questions regarding her novel, the Other Boleyn Girl, soon to be released in theatres. The Other Boleyn Girl is a romanticised account of the life of the 16th-century aristocrat, Lady Mary Boleyn, who was the sister of Queen Anne Boleyn and one-time mistress of King Henry VIII of England. Just the mere fact of seeing Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johanson in one movie is enough to get me excited! - - -
The filmmaker is talking about the 4 young actors who starred in the first installment of the Narnia series. William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley will return as the Pevensie children, in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Ben Barnes (The History Boys) will play Prince Caspian. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian will be the second film in The Chronicles of Narnia film series from Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media, following The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The four Pevensie children return to Narnia to aid a young prince in his struggle for the throne against his corrupt uncle King Miraz. The film, while fourth in the series’s internal chronology, was the second story authored by C. S. Lewis and will help maintain believable continuity with the maturing actors. In continuity with the film version of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, having returned from Narnia, the children's next visit to Narnia would be during the events of Prince Caspian. - - -
In Bruges was filmed on location; Bruges (pronounced “broozh”), the most well-preserved medieval city in the whole of Belgium, is a welcoming destination for travellers from all over the world. But for hit men Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson), it could be their final destination; a difficult job has resulted in the pair being ordered right before Christmas by their London boss Harry (Ralph Fiennes) to go and cool their heels in the storybook Flemish city for a couple of weeks. Very much out of place amidst the gothic architecture, canals, and cobbled streets, the two hit men fill their days living the lives of tourists. Ray, still haunted by the bloodshed in London, hates the place, while Ken, even as he keeps a fatherly eye on Ray’s often profanely funny exploits, finds his mind and soul being expanded by the beauty and serenity of the city. But the longer they stay waiting for Harry’s call, the more surreal their experience becomes, as they find themselves in weird encounters with locals, tourists, violent medieval art, a dwarf American actor (Jordan Prentice) shooting a European art film, Dutch prostitutes, and a potential romance for Ray in the form of Chloë (Clémence Poésy), who may have some dark secrets of her own. And when the call from Harry does finally come, Ken and Ray’s vacation becomes a life-and-death struggle of darkly comic proportions and surprisingly emotional consequences. - - -
Cloverfield is a 2008 American monster movie produced by J. J. Abrams, directed by Matt Reeves, and written by Drew Goddard. The movie stars relatively new and unknown actors. A trivia went to say that in order to prevent the leaking of plot information, instead of auditioning the actors with scenes from the film, scripts from Abrams's previous productions were used, such as television series Alias. Some scenes were also written specifically for the audition process, not intended for use in the film. I can't help but remember Godzilla when I saw the trailer! |
