tMF's STATE OF INDEPENDENCE: Help us keep tMF afloat! Print E-mail

We've had our share of ups and downs and while our record of 16,376,364 hits last April is about to be broken, our independence suffered a big blow last week. Movie fans, we need your help! I've been trying to write this since last night, but I failed, so here, in the exact words of our Editor Lin, is what we'd like you to know:

We need help keep tMF afloat! "This is a site for fans which is run by fans. We're not making any money out of it; it's done for the love of movies and actors and for the upbuilding of the community of movie lovers in general. But sites cost money and getting hacked a short while back meant tMF incurred a lot of unforeseen additional expenses just to stay online. So if the fans out there would like to support tMF and see it go from good to better (and eventually to best!) then please consider making a small donation now and then, whenever you have a few bucks to spare? "

That's basically it. If you take a look, you'll see a PayPal donation button shown prominently at the top of the right-hand column of this site ... and, from all of us at tMF - THANK YOU!!

:-)

Supporting tMF AND Little Ashes...
I'm so proud to be a part of this special project. This film and this actor deserve the hype and attention that is being given to that other film of Robert Pattinson's. However, as an Independent...and a controversial Independent as well...it won't receive the same publicity. And that's where we've had to step in to try to give Little Ashes the recognition it deserves!

And of course, I will be supporting tMF both financially with what little I can, as well as devotedly with my time and efforts in this project!

It's more than deserved on both counts!

What sort of voluntary contribution are you looking for. Give us a ball park figure

independents and struggles
it has always been apparent to me that independent films have far more interesting themes and premises in comparison to the big budget, box office killers. however, because these films are independent they are chastised for lacking in budget thus becoming completely undderrated, which in my opinion is unacceptable. i am proud to be apart of this promotional project for little ashes. the life of dali reads extraordinary. add that to the multi-dimensional talents of rob pattinson exemplifying dali's persona, and you have a sublime piece of cinematic art that should not go without recognition and thus experienced by many.

details of tMF's current funding needs
Hi and thanks for asking! tMF pays $110.00 per month in order to run smoothly, that's fine. The problem is when we got hacked and our cost doubled. We don't want to ask for too much, we put the paypal donation (as many sites have been doing too) just to help augment with the expenses. If anyone can spare $5 or $10 or whatever amount they feel they could, that's already a big help.

Ok thanks for the info. I'll chip in something. Can I just say thought that I think merging the two articles is rather confusing. Usually your articles read wonderfully. But this one seems rather confusing and I really dont think the two subject matters go together. There's no harm in having one topic asking for support financially and no harm in flagging up a new initiative. Its nearly like you feel awkward flagging either up. Persoanlly I'd split the two and rewrite them slightly.

I must admit I agree with Jenny B. I think the Little Ashes initiative might get overlooked tagged onto the end of this funding request.

Also can we have a running total of what your getting. Because a low figure will help encourage people to contribute. Peopel might assume you are awash with funds.
Helenwa , August 23, 2008

Jed have you considered going to the Little Ashes producers for a small donation. Might be worth a message. You can all work together to help this film.
judith , August 23, 2008

Just a thought - it might be worth adding a still from Little Ashes to the changing gif banner at the top of the page. It might attract curiosity from more casual viewers. Maybe tMF could ask the producers for some stills.

a module to put up the donation money!
Great idea on the donation! Yes, we actually plan to set up a special module to thank each and everyone for the help. It sort of like you're a partner here and making a small investment but that goes a long way of course!

Also is there no way the project pages on the film cant be part of this site and not a separate site. It would be good to join tMF and have access to all that it has to offer. I'm just thinking that if you do more initiatives in the future it might be best that its all part of one system and can be searched on from one point.

tMF Special project
Its the lack of sleep and perhaps getting a bit worried about tMF going offline! smilies/grin.gif thanks for the suggestions, I made this two posts.

As for the tMF Special project, it stays on the tMF server. We'll only be using a domain name for ID purposes and for other 'strategic' plans so to speak. And yeah, we're already thinking of other movies (mostly the INDIE ones) to help support in the future, so you can count on that as well.

Good idea regarding keeping all information under one document management system. The site needs to start as it means to go on. Its hard technically to unpick decisions at a later date. Does the model you use on here for posting messages have a more sophisticated add on to structure messages in a typical threaded formation. I agree it would be good to have the forum built into tFM and not as a sep system. The searching point is a good one.
hollyots , August 24, 2008

Also to catch peoples attention I'd have the paypal gadget top right and move the model watch gadget further down the page.

One suggestion - are you going to be adding the paypal link to your myspace page. It might be worth it. Also its not as up to date as this site. If people go there doesnt that mean you dont get the hits on this site that you could have. Isnt it best to get everyone to go to one place. Develop that feeling of community.
sarah2 , August 24, 2008
take 2 for that!
We're going to ask the developer for that, actually. It was suggested before, and since we paid for the commenting system, we're entitled for updates, if they did that feature already.

We're using joomla! Its a content management system that is really awesome. I'm still trying to learn a lot of its features, so expect improvements to be introduced as we go on, and thanks for the suggestions! Its people like you who took the time to observe and look carefully at the site that will help us improve on it!
jed , August 24, 2008
Indeed!
You said it perfectly. This is what we've been discussing with my team a few hours back, when we should have to think about:

Develop that feeling of community.

You're exactly right. The only problem is that we're really understaff, everyone here @tMF work voluntarily and also donate money if they can. Most of us work for a living, and it's the passion that keep us online.

There are some more people coming in to help in the promotion and maintain/updates our list of accounts, such as the myspace tMF account you mentioned. That's a good point, thanks!
jed , August 24, 2008
...
Thanks for being so open to suggestion Jed. I work as an IT project manager and roll out portal technology to organisations so document management systems and good quality search engines are always at the fore front of my mind. If I had time I'd volunteer to help put sadly I'm up to my neck in work at the moment.
hollyots , August 24, 2008

I do think tFM should focus on this one project first and make a big success of it before working on other indie films. Otherwise you might all spread yourselves too thin.
soya , August 24, 2008

Far as I know, soya, Little Ashes is the only special project on the go at the moment. :-) I'm happy to say that some really great folk have stepped up and gotten involved and you can be sure we'll all be cheering them on!

I agree about updating the tFM banner so it includes Little Ashes. The banner is a bit out of date now.
