tMF FAST FORWARD: Our take on the new Twilight trailer! Print E-mail
Written by Jed Medina
Friday, 10 October 2008

Wow, I just went offline for a few hours and now I got so many emails asking for tMF's take on the new Twilight trailer! It's great I opened up my gmail first rather than browse some of the more "prominent" movie sites and blogs. Some even justified why they posted the Twilight trailer news in the first place- traffic, perhaps?

Ok, let me get right down to it...

- - -

- - -

Over-all Impression: Much better than the previous trailer. The background music is first-rate and definitely sets the mood. You know, you're watching a movie trailer that many people have discussed and argued about- from the music, the selected scenes and the way it flows, giving everyone an overview of the movie itself. With so much hype attached to this movie, I'm pretty sure a lot of you have high expectations and those who have already condemned the movie even before its release need to justify it even more.

I'm happy to just watch it, then ask myself, is that how I pictured it when I read the book? ( Reality Check: But hey, its just the trailer. Its supposed to introduce you to the movie. Sure you want to judge it already?) Why not...

- - -

The musical background reminded me of an older Vampire movie, Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire. But the sudden change of pace took me by surprise - -from a mysterious, classical chorus of voices, it became modern music with throbbing, pulsating beat!

The First encounter: If you've read the book, then you'll approve and probably say, its just like how you imagined it to be- the weather, the students and that almost eerie, darkened mood that surrounds the place. You know you're with some other 'preternatural' beings. Its good and safe if you're just reading it, but then again, imagine how it feels if you live among them!

The same scene was included in the original trailer and I think it really sets the tone.

The Romance: Amazing chemistry between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson! After their first encounter, Bella got loads of questions, but rather than back away from Edward, it seems it pulls her even closer. So Bella enters the world of vampires, unlike anything she has known before. The viewing at the tree trunk says a lot- its a different world seen from an otherwordly way, exciting yet dangerous. If you think Bella is nothing but a spineless gal, think again! Finally, we see an ordinary girl deciding she wants to live an extraordinary life!

The Kiss: Just a hint of sex, and done with absolute good taste! I no longer wonder why Kristen thinks Rob is perfect for the role. If anyone else was chosen as Edward, it would not feel right. Care to argue with me?

The Danger: So my pulse quickens, I know what the lovers have gone through, so watching the actual scenes satisfied me in more ways than one. I can feel the sense of danger, and just like the book, you want some more!

Even before I've heard about the sequels, I just knew the story has to continue. There's so much to tell, and Twilight is just the beginning.

I'm watching this! What makes it even better for me is that I have followed the story since last year- from the casting to the conventions to the after-party plans. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone and I'm pretty sure my expectations will be met.

What's on your mind? Have you seen the new Twilight trailer? Do you think its better than the first one? Let us know what you think!

Yup...I am statisfied!!!!
I actually stopped breathing...it wasn't until my treacherous lungs greedily gasped for oxygen that I even realized that I had been holding my breath...I cannot imagine how anyone could not be completely statisfied that the film has done the book justice, and that Kristen and Rob have taken the characters (that Stephanie Meyer created) and given them life, they are Bella and Edward!...I was so statisfied watching the trailer that I am concerned that I might just self-combusted when watching the entire film...and can I just add what a KISS!!!...I haven't seen anything like that since the kiss Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling shared in "THe Notebook"... watching Rob and Kristen made my knees weak and gasp with glee like a school-girl...good gracious...Twilight is going to be the death of me!!! smilies/smiley.gif

a lot better
It's a lot better than the other trailers, and I absolutely agree with you, Pattinson is the best choice to play Edward Cullen. No one can do it as great as him! And the kiss is AMAZING, INCREDIBLE

The first trailer intrigued me enough to pick up the book my 14 year old daughter laid on my nightstand months ago begging me to read. Over one weekend in August, I had read all 4 books and thoroughly enjoyed them. I would not classify myself as a "Twihard" or "Twilighter." For me it was a really good story. Although, I was excited about Robert Pattinson's other projects, firstly his music, the first trailer did not have me convinced to go sit in a movie theater on opening weekend with a bunch of screaming girls. This new trailer however, has shown me how much work Hardwicke and the cast has put into bringing a quality retelling of Meyer's work. I will now gladly sacrifice my eardrums for 90 minutes and escape to Forks and you may even hear a little squeal from me now and then. smilies/wink.gif

It Sets the Tone Wonderfully for the Movie
I was in our university while I first view this new trailer with my friend. We can't stop smiling and we watched it over and over again!

Overall, the trailer was great and you're right, it's better than the first two. It catches what Forks should really look like and it has a eerie, sort of depressing atmosphere surrounding it. The background music was fantastic! It's like I'm watching a movie about an epic tale set during the old times.

The chemistry between the two actors were just palpable! The kiss was so perfect. It catches the essence of their forbidden love - Bella's overwhelming desire and Edward trying to be careful as much as he could. It's as if every senses of my body were ignited by their all-consuming passion for one another!

I hope the movie would do justice on the book. Because for sure, TWILIGHTERS' expectation would increase a thousand times more after this fantastic trailer!

The part when Edward catches the apple was ingenious! It wasn't a part of the book but still, it reflects the forbidden love between this star-crossed lovers. Edward offering Bella a forbidden fruit is like Edward offering himself to Bella with cataclysmic results.

Great article, Jed!

I completely agree with you. Looks like Summit delivered and we're loving it.
Natasha7115 , October 10, 2008
THE KISS!!!! I'm lost for words...
Let me get my thoughts in order....first, the initial background music reminded me so much of Lord of the Rings (one of my favorite mvoies of all time). The feel of the movie is dark, eerie and otherwordly, just like the books. The romance that Rob and Kristen exudes on screen is the same epic romance that Bella and Edward makes you feel when you read the book....breathless!! Can't wait for the movie...what more can I say.
Anne A. , October 10, 2008
The apple scene!
Oh yeah, I forgot to add, that apple almost falling and Edward too quick to let that happen! It looks so cool! I think Hardwicke did an amazing job, its quite subtle, yet you know you're watching a powerful character!
jed , October 10, 2008
This is the ticket!
I was so excited to check my blog today, knowing the trailer widget would be playing on it and not to any surprise - it's wicked! I agree with you Jed - I do believe that this 3rd trailer of Twilight is going to lure the people in to the theaters come Nov. 21st! It hits all the necessary points to whet your appetite for the old adage "You always want what you can't have"...or can we?.... It simply caresses the heart with the thought of the mystical romance, and yet sends that fearful surge of adrenaline for the chase to the end. Will they? Won't they make it? Well the true Twilight followers will know, but Summit has done a great job to peak the interests of those who may have only heard of the Twilight uprising, but just haven't joined the fun yet! Well don't fret - they will!! Great job Jed - tMF rocks!! http://leylakyrie-carpediem.blogspot.com/

yes, Yes, YES!!!
Thank you, Jed! smilies/smiley.gif No shock that I agree with you, here. The opening music was probably one of my favorite parts. The apple scene. The end where Edward declares Bella is his life. Just yum. I caught ET's sneak sneak peek two nights ago, and that's when the kiss left me breathless, so seeing it the second time wasn't quite as W.O.W., though I still enjoyed every second of it. smilies/wink.gif The scene from the prom, and the well-put-together scenes from previous trailers: all of this and the favorite new scenes gave us so much to look forward to. Will it be just like the book? No. Obviously. But did they get Edward & Bella right? No doubt. I couldn't be happier. smilies/grin.gif Thanks, again!

After seeing the 1st two trailers, I was a bit nervous about how the movie was going to turn out. I was going to see it anyway, but I felt like it would be a little cheesy. I definitely didn't want to see it opening weekend w/ all of the squeeling fangirls. I planned to see it when I visited my family for Thanksgiving. I was going to drag my sisters w/ me, even though I was afraid of how they would react to it, having never read the books.

The new trailer has changed my mind! I can't wait until I'm w/ my sisters. I showed the trailer to my husband and asked if he would be willing to go w/ me. He said that it looks a bit teen-ish, but otherwise not bad. So now we're going to brave the crowds and go together opening weekend. I never in a million years thought that I would be able to drag him along, much less have him go willingly.

The anticipation is killing me...

I thought it was done very well. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it made me wish it was already November 21st. I didnt mind the first two, but the third one blew me away. smilies/smiley.gif

OME
Has anyone else watched the trailer a million times? Because I have.

And I don't think I'm the only one who pauses every frame to get a good look at everything.

DID YOU SEE HIM PULLING THE LIMB OFF THE TREE IN THE MEADOW???? I MEAN, WOW.

The way Jasper, Alice and Emmett were jumping in that one scene was kind of unrealistic, though. Jasper looked like he was about to do a belly-flop, and Emmett looked like he was trying to be Superman, but whatever.

TWILIGHT LOOKS AWESOME.

HayleyCullen , October 10, 2008
Love it
The new trailer drags you in more. It just makes us FAN go more crazy than the other trailers do. I'm so looking forward to see the movie. I hope it's not what other viewers are saying that maybe it might end up a bad movie. I HOPE NOT!!!

I love twilight!!!!
Lori , October 10, 2008
Twilight will be phenomenal
Well, to begin with, I loved the background music. It was kind of mysterious. I have read all the books so I knew what to expect...the kiss was perfect. Only Rob & Kristen could make this scene perfect. They have such chemistry, that it is really unbelievable. I love the scene on the tree top, it was breath taking and the looks on both actors faces of what they are experiencing at the moment talking about both world (vampire & human). Also, the meadow scene was incredible. I know that people are saying the movie won't live up to the book. Well, it's not suppose to, this is Twilight, the Movie. I know I won't be disappointed, from what I've seen in the trailer, Twilight will be phenomenal.
Renesmee09 , October 10, 2008
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT COMPLETELY TOOK MY BREATH AWAY! i was so impressed, it even surpassed my expectations. the chemistry between kristen and rob- OMG- PERFECT- AMAZING, they couldnt have nailed it better. the tone is perfect, the music is just right, and the scenery is to die for. even better than what i imagined in my mind. if that was even possible. i am so happy and excited for the movie! i was super excited about it before but, apprehensive at the same time, afraid it couldnt live up to the magic and passion of the book, but now im even more excited, my hopes for the movie have been 10000% renewed and i cannot wait!! smilies/cheesy.gif
Rachael , October 10, 2008
Thanks Jed.
I agree with everything you said. The chemistry is incredible, and if Stephenie liked the rough cut then the rest of us should like the final movie. Jed, you do such a great job of this. You were right about only judging Rob on his acting and now totally right on about the trailer. Thanks.

this trailer was LITERALLY incredible....I just couldn't believe they made such a good work! pure art I think!!!..The hard part now is the actual movie, since our expectations have grown so much with this amazing preview I hope the final result to be as great...and I do believe it will. The cinematography of the film seems so original, both art and commercial stuff mixed beautifully.
cinthia , October 10, 2008
PHENOMENAL.AMAZING.AWESOME.
How can I POSSIBLY put my feelings for this trailer/movie into WORDS?!?!
Well, the first time I watched it I was just spazzing out and screaming and going crazy--I couldn't really REGISTER any of it until I watched it the next 15 times.
EVERYTHING about this trailer...was...extraordinary.
THE APPLE. That was SOO neatly incorporated. I was like.."APPLE!"
And everything he says! "You are my life now." "You don't know how long I've waited for you." "What if I'm not the hero? What if I'm the bad guy?" ALL AMAAZING! And the amount of PASSION that was put into them..incredible. INCREDIBLE.
the..the..KISS. I had never even imagined that Edward and Bella's kissing could be so INTENSE. But jeez, I was breathless. So much chemistry--brilliant, breathtaking.
I never, ever thought that Twilight could be brought to life like this. I had my doubts--but it looks like ALL of the cast and crew put in 100% effort to make this awesome for us.
So far--I am blown away. Blown away. =D
twilightaholic , October 10, 2008
Woth the wait!
Even though I, among thousands of others, have been waiting (I won't lie. IMPATIENTLY waiting) for about an eternity for this movie to be released, it's definitely worth the wait. smilies/grin.gif

Even with the small changes they made, I think it fits! "You are my life now," (swoon) right before Bella leaves. How perfect is that?!

Overall, the preview left me stunned and anxious for more! I was literally screaming and jumping out of my seat! smilies/smiley.gif
Val , October 10, 2008
all the way to the top!!!
yes, i really think this is better than the first trailer... i mean hello all the elements fans and non-fans wants to see in the movie were really there.... the key scenes were also there..it was perfect..i know it will be a big hit!!!

the kiss made a big impression..they really know fans will want to see more..i mean MORE...

Both Catherine Hardwicke and Summit have hit it out of the park. Every detail in that trailer had my reeling. From the music that I hope continues in the film itself, to the apple homage, to the kiss, and through to the ballet studio scene...

My fiance, who I asked to watch the trailer with me, actually exclaimed at the climactic fight scene at the end, and I quote, "Whoa! That was bad-ass!" smilies/cheesy.gif So, I think the male audience's interest will be similarly piqued.

I am looking forward to the film even more now...solely based on that fantastic trailer.

Great take on this. Thanks Jed!

The trailer was bad, but the Kiss made it insantly better.
I am so excited for this movie, I know Summit is under alot of pressure, I just hope They do this right.
Orla , October 11, 2008
OMFG!
What an amazing trailer! i mean, the first two were okey but this one takes the kake. The music in the begining kind of reminds me a little bit of the movie Troy.
And it just flows so goo troughtout the trailer. And i MUST add.... Oh my f*n goood!!!! what a kiss! It was so completely breathtaking. i saw the preview the day before on ET and i nearly had an heart attack. and i agree with soem other: that kiss MUST win next years best kiss!

anticipating...
i love the books, i'd enjoyed the other trailers....but this went beyond expectation. like everyone else i was all breathless and excited watching! the kiss (i've watched that alone 50 times), the apple drop (looks stunningly realistic...and gives a nod to the book cover. genius.) and the rest of the vampire special effects. if i had had any doubts/worries prior about it looking fake - they're gone! it looks so well done! i'm so escited for 11/21....i haven't been looking forward to a movie this much since...romeo and juliet?
Ro , October 11, 2008
OMFE!!!
i loved it! it was just amazing and very full of awesomeness! Everything looks just perfect and i love the apple thing so cool! do you want to know my reaction to the kiss? Let's just say there was hyperventalation and brown paper bags involved...
joi , October 11, 2008
Trailer
I am very happy with the trailer. It shows a mix of action and romance. I dare not say how many times I have watched it. Rob and Kristen's chemistry is perfect and they have embodied Edward and Bella to a tee. Impatiently, waiting until November 21st.

Jen

So goooood!
When I first saw that sneak-peak-trailer of ET, while watching the kissing scene, I suddenly had tears in my eyes *turns red* , so I wasn´t really able to see that scene properly.
I had to watch it again and again...I just love that kiss.
OK, it is not true to the book, Edward and Bella would never be able to kiss sooo passionatly, at least not in that early stage of there relationship...but hey, who cares, if that is the outcome!!!

Love the apple scene as well! That intense look on Edwards face makes my knees melt!

Only that jump of the rest of the cullens in the balletroom looks a little bit over the top...
Lucia , October 11, 2008
OME!!!! Summit has hit a VAMPIRE homerun!!!!
Tone: Mysterious and magical, with the requisite danger element.

Visual: Perfect!! Beautiful, haunting, lush...and that's just ROBERT PATTINSON!!!! The scenery jumps out at you. You can almost feel lost in the mist!!

Chemistry: The KISS should leave no doubt that Kristen and Robert have unparalleled chemistry. Sensual, tenative and above all, the very real threat for Edward to be overwhelmed, is ALL there!

Apple trick: Amazing, creative, brilliant nod to the books, the author herself and all the fans who love the series!!! Forbidden fruit, indeed!!!smilies/smiley.gifsmilies/smiley.gifsmilies/cool.gif
Wendy , October 11, 2008
OMG!!!
You know that apples can't bounce. It just shows you the supernatural power that Edward demonstrates before Bella. When when he kisses her, it's magic and when he says, "You are my life now," you know the writer did her best to include the most amazine lines that makes this book number one among its fans.smilies/kiss.gif

Twilight's number 1 fan!Literally!
OMG!!!!Best railer ever!It is a lot better than the first one.But anything to do with Twilight is always the best.Robert and Kristen look so AWESOME!I was screaming and jumping the whole time I was watching it!When he kisses her, it's like there are sparks flying everywhere (OMG!I am giving myself a heart attack just talking about it!)LOVE IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT REVIEW! AND CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEATRICAL VERSION OF TWILIGHT!!
I couldn't agree with you more Jed, and the trailer just blew my mind away. Catherine Hardwicke did an amazing job here... I just want to kiss and hug her for bringing Twilight to life on screen. Everything is just perfect... the actors, the setting, the music, the scenes. It's exactly what Stephenie Meyer said, fans will love Twilight and t stayed true to the book. What I really looking forward to Twilight's theatrical version, is that we will be seeing the story from the viewer's point of view. We will be seeing scenes and side stories that Bella, in the book, didn't see or talk about in the book, because it's all in her point of view.
As for Rob and Kristen, there is just soooooooo much chemistry. They are perfect for the role, and I am greatly hoping they would stay for the next three.
Congratulations to Summit Group, Stephenie, Catherine, to Rob and Kristen and the rest of the Twilight Cast for a box office success.
Sukiyaki , October 11, 2008
eh. it was okay
i think it was okay. i mean i read the book and in no way does it really capture the sense of it. i think it is stupid how they climb up the tree. however i think that rob and kirsten have great chemistry and he really looks like edward
paulie bleeker , October 11, 2008
Final Twilight Trailer
Congratulations Catherine Hardwicke - you did it. You captured Stephenie Meyer's Twilight perfectly on the big silver screen. There could be no better actors than Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson to play Bella and Edward. Thank you Summit Entertainment for keeping your promise to Stephenie Meyer for her beloved Twilight. Last, but not least, thank you Stephenie Meyer for sharing your "dream" with the entire world.
Marie , October 11, 2008
AWESOME!!!
This trailer is EPIC!
I love it!
The music, the scenes, the actors, the special effects...everything is AMAZING!
The trailer premiered in Germany at 4AM and I set my alarm clock to watch it but I was too tired. But I did stand up earlier to watch it before school. And I recorded it with my cellphone to watch it in trig xD
I watched it almost 50 times by now! I love it and I showed it to my friends and they love it, too! I can't wait till January 15th (the German date is soooo far away *cries*)
Great article, Jed!^^

Can Hardly Wait for Twilight!!!
The Twilight lived to my expectations. I can't wait to finally see the movie.

...
OME this trailer was SO amazing!!!!....(breathless and speechless).... OK, so I liked the other trailers, but to be honest, they werent really anything special. So I was excited to see this trailer b/c I thought i might get to see one or two new scenes, but that was about it. SO I watched it. And my expectations were COMPLETELY surpassed! There were a ton of new/extended scenes, plus some of my FAVORITE lines from the book that I didnt even think would make it into the movie, plus-and this was probably the most significant-a full kiss (and not just any kiss either- possibly/probably the most amazing kiss ive ever seen on screen)! I mean, I am more excited for this movie (by far) than ive ever been for any movie ever, but in order to keep myself from being disappointed im preparing myself for the absolute worst... but judging by this trailer, if I keep those expectations, I am going to be VERY pleasantly surprised, b/c the trailer was purely AMAZING! not to mention it had a ton of quotes that were almost directly from the book (i know they werent in the same place, necessarily, but who cares (i dont) as long as they are in there?), made especially good b/c they were some of my all-time FAVORITE quotes- and then of course they were made even better by the fact that Robert Pattinson was saying them. I mean, I have read and heard and said those quotes a million times, but hearing him say them? it was like I had never really heard/read/understood the words b4. He put so much emotion and passion and MEANING behind them... sigh. I think I very nearly died when he said "you are my life now" at the end- really. Every single line he said (almost) just about made my heart stop- it was incredible. The casting for this movie is perfect. No one could do better (from what ive seen so far) than what any of the actors have done w/their roles. Kristen and Rob's chemistry = breathtaking. Literally. That kiss. WOW. OME. what more is there to say? this trailer was VAMPTASTIC if anything ever was, and Im going to have to work REALLY hard to keep my expectations low now... REALLY hard, b/c this trailer made it seem like the movie's going to be everything I (and other fans) hoped for and more.
VanessaC , October 13, 2008
...

after watching movies like interview with he vampire, you cant help but compare. I mean they dont look like vampires at all!
its totally different from the book or at least the way I saw it in my mind, I does not gove you that sense of danger, i dont know. And to me it seems that theyre reading the lines not acting, it looks without soul
oh and Im really concerned about the music, I mean the soundtrack, ok Muse inspired Stephenie theyre awesome and all that, but I think its going to end like The Covenant, when they put some really heavy music during the fight scenes or something, they should stick to movie scores.

For movie blog readers: rather than hunting through Google or through any number of blog directories and/or blogrolls looking for a site that fits your liking, this is your one-stop shop. Read up on the latest sites: who's behind them, what their focus is, their goals and what you can expect when visiting.

For movie bloggers: this is a place for your blog to be spotlighted, in its own feature post, for all to see. Additionally, the LAMB is a community of film bloggers, some like you and proably some totally unlike you. We regularly have events and blog-a-thons, from our LAMB Devours the Oscars series to Plot Farms to our annual awards, The LAMMYS.

FOCUS ON EMERGING TALENTS

tMF (The Movie Fanatic) is focused in providing the latest news about cinema's emerging talents. We feature interviews and profiles of mainly up-and-coming young actors in our Spotlight, Emerging Talents and On the Verge sections.
