David (Archul...errr Cook!), Twilight and Stephenie Meyer Print E-mail
Written by Jed Medina

There's no doubt about the huge number of Twilight fans - it has been proven time and again! And few people would dispute the fact that the two Davids (Archuleta and Cook) are two American idols with their own huge followings....

So what gives? Is there a chance for a connection here? Aside from their huge fan bases, a possible question here is - is there a chance for Archuleta and Cook perhaps to render a song as part of the Twilight soundtrack? Is that so far-fetched? Remember, the Twilight fandom can do something about it.

Imagine David Archuleta doing a romantic ballad and David Cook doing a rock number to add to one or two of Twilight's most anticipated action scenes? Still far-fetched? Perhaps not!

I would think Stephenie Meyer, who prefers rock music, might perhaps choose David Cook...but how about Archuleta with his legions of teen fans? (I'm a huge David A. fan myself!)

What do you think? Is there a chance to join these two massive fandoms and make this upcoming movie even more awesome???

Do you have some inside info that this is a possibility? Or is this a "what if" scenario? Please spill the proverbial beans either way! Anyway, I can see David C. representing Edward - on the dark side, edgy, soulful, deep. I see David A. being all for Jacob - young, bouncy, a bit annoying but oh so loveable.

That's an interesting proposition. The only connection I can see between the IDOLs and the TWILIGHTERSs, is that both David Archuleta and Stephenie Meyer are both members of the Latter Day Saint [Mormon] faith. I'm sure the movie producers know exactly what sound they're looking for when it comes to the soundtrack. I'm perplexed whether the "Davids" are it.
Perplexed , May 20, 2008

Umm... I'm a teen, and I also don't know many people who like David Archuleta. David Cook all the way, man!

aww that would be amazing if both sing in the soundtrack..i love them both so it doesn't matter but i luv David Cook more, even though i think David A. is cuter =) do you know something we don't know!?!?! OH PLEASE MORE INFO!!!! ...please and thank you^-^
iluvtwilight , May 20, 2008
No!
I rather have the soundtrack be from bands that Ms. Meyer was inspire from, not American Idol
Yvette , May 20, 2008
...
It'd be cool to have David Cook, but please NO David Archuleta
Mel , May 20, 2008
Negative!
I would cry if an American Idol from this season had anything to do with the "Twilight" soundtrack. It would have an unpleasant gimmicky feel to it, and part of the fun of being a fan is that the Twilight world is tainted by many outside sources.Mind you, I'm not an "American Idol" fan, but Stephenie already listed music she had in mind while writing, and although many of the bands she selected aren't usually my style, many of them are accurate. I don't doubt that the American Idols have talent (obviously they do!) but I would be disappointed in the people behind the movie soundtrack for, in my eyes, selling out after the apparent pains that have been taken to keep the movie true to the book.
bella_of_the_ball , May 20, 2008
If it's David Cook
It's okay if David Cook will sing in the Twilight soundtrack even if only one but great song. I like the way he sang Always Be My Baby. Maybe he can do it for other songs.
Aileen , May 20, 2008
David...
LOl! I was actualy thinking baout this as I was watching American Idol! xD...Well, though my vote goes to David A. (who dazzles me), I think I would rather have David Cook do a rock song for the fighting scene...But who knows maybe they can put them both on the CD (if they can get them at all, Lol) i would love having one of them on my twilight soundtrack, that would make my year. smilies/cheesy.gif

Yuck. I am not a fan of American Idol. I say neither of them, and get some real musicians to do the music! Muse, anyone?
Sara (another one!) , May 20, 2008
...
ok as much as everyone likes american idol and stuff and both david archuleta and david cook are cool singers and everything...i would seriously not want to have any of them sing for twilight....i mean c'mon its twilight....we need way better singers than those guys.....i am so hoping muse can be on the soundtrack....now they are true musicians

Haters
I dont understand how anyone would say that for Twilight, you would need "way better singers"...Most famous musicians today aren't half as good as them, that's why as opposed to most artists, they had to go head to head with hundreds of thousands of people. And they are real musicians, just because they are famous from American Idol doesn't make them any less the musician as opposed to just about all the artists today. And I dont see the whole "selling out" issue. They are making a MOVIE for the book, isn't that sort of selling out itself? I'm excited as hell for the movie, but it's not the book, and it's not going to be the same as the book anyways. Don't be so harsh on a few boys who are making their dreams come true as the rest of you sit in your rooms, obsessing over a book "selling out", and bagging on them for doing what they love to do. I don't think the fact that some of you HATE american idol should play into it either. I mean, I hated "The Messengers" but you don't see me hating on Kristen Stewart for it. Stay positive, you'll age slower. smilies/wink.gif
Stephanie , May 20, 2008
Yuckk..
I'm not trying to jump down anyone's throat, so I do hope this is not taken that way, but i'll be honest...I would HATE it if they had anyone from American Idol singing on the soundtrack for Twilight. I feel like that would ruin it for me..it would feel rather lame and cheesy. stick with Muse...
Ellecee , May 20, 2008
....
I'm from Australia so I have absolutely no idea who they are but.. If it's anything like the Idol in Aus. I would rather have neither of them in the movie.

Also, tell me if I'm wrong. I thought Catherine said in an interview they may have Muse in the soundtrack?
georgia , May 20, 2008
No thanks
I really hope they don't. That would be a nightmare. It would make the film far too cheesy, being associated with American Idol!
Bogi , May 20, 2008
Nooooo
NOOOOOOO!

The film will get enough doubters already because its a "teenage vampire love story" without having the teenybopper tag attached to it!
Isobella Magpie , May 21, 2008 | url
Indie Rock or Classical---NOT POP IDOL!!!
I can't imagine either of them really being appropriate for this film. Catherine Hardwicke mentioned that they have spoken with MUSE about collaborating, also...and I hope this DOES work out...Robert Pattinson was working on Bella's lullaby. Otherwise, no gimmicks, just quality, soulful indie rock and some DeBussy. smilies/cry.gif smilies/grin.gif
Wendy , May 21, 2008
No way.
I have barely watched Idol this year, but I just... despise any film that places a musician's work (or creates a work for them) in the composition because of their screaming popularity at the time. It never works all that well. IT always seems stilted or out of touch. Just say NO!
leiahlaloa , May 21, 2008
Inspiration comes in different places, different corners, even different mindsets!
I'm pretty amazed with the responses I got here. Actually to answer debbie, this is just a speculation, as i watched the American Idol marathon on Starworld, a first for me. I am no American Idol fan myself, so I must have been strucked with the fever myself, though I'm pretty sure, some of you may say yuck! But to each his own. You have your own obsessions too, so I see no reason why I can't have mine as well.

In all seriousness, inspiration comes from different places, and yes, different corners. I would very much like to see a soundtrack for Twilight that can come close to what they have in The Crow. I must be one of those who love this Brandon Lee cult movie, and it's one of the best soundtracks ever. Check it out, you will never say yuck to any of the tracks here, I'm pretty sure! smilies/grin.gif

Muse is pretty much new to me until Meyer herself announced it's her favorite band, so I kinda agree with her, it's unique and it's awesome. But for a soundtrack to be really cool, it needs variety, and who says soundtracks can't have both romantic ballads and rock pieces???
jedmed , May 21, 2008
No Thank You.
Please, no American Idol singers in Twilight. Regurdless of the talent of the individuals, Hardwick is known for 'cult' type movies. I believe that this proposal would ruin that aspect of the movie's tenor.

I agree that rock and balads are acceptable for the soundtrack, but not reality show winners.
Isabella Vaughan , May 21, 2008
...
This would be THEE WORST IDEA EVER!!!!!! smilies/angry.gif

I truly hope this is a sick sad joke!
Stephanie , May 21, 2008
...
I would never EVER want to see any connection between American Idol and Twilight. I think it would be nice for those who are compiling the Twilight soundtrack to take Meyer's "book playlists" into consideration.

(And I can't wait to hear Robert Pattinson's possible rendition of "Bella's lullaby". It would completely add a special connection between Pattinson and Stewart.)
sarLar , May 21, 2008
Why not, but not Archuleta??
I personally would love for David Cook to not win Idol because he is clearly the more talented and marketable of the two. He will have a much better career without being bound to Idol. Archuleta has a beautiful voice, but it bores me. I love how Cook can turn an old song into something new and exciting. Since watching him this season, I have had in the back of my mind him re"vamping" Sarah McLachlan's Possession for Edward's angst. I thought he would be perfect for this! He has a way of turning songs into more soulful rock, rather than bubblegum pop.
Tammy Cornwall , May 21, 2008
No
either of them would be awful for the movie!
twilighter , May 21, 2008
...
NO AMERICAN IDOL!!! We already are a world pretty much run by it, we don't need it in a world we love and escape to. Please don't put any American Idol songs in it.
k , May 21, 2008
...
I'd rather not see a new and rising so-called "star" using the publicity to make their career. They need to be able to make it on their own before I'd accept them. Winning American Idol means nothing. Look at Daughtry. He's gone so far and he didn't win. Look at Taylor Hicks. He won, and nobody knows who he is!

Thumbs down.
Cornie , May 21, 2008 | url
NOOOOOOOOO
I love David Cook, but I'd really hope that this movie uses more alternative, lesser known artists in the soundtrack. In my opinion, a soundtrack should be just that, sounds--it shouldn't distract from the actual movie. It shouldn't be used to boost someone's career, and this movie should NOT be commercialized. Plus, people who watch American Idol are often times opinionated. For example, if I hear David A. singing on that movie, I might barf. I'll still love the movie, of course, but oh will I barf.
Katie , May 21, 2008
...
Yeah, but Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood both won and have amaing careers and success. Just because one wins Idol doesn't mean they're destined to fail. No matter who wins out of the two Davids, I think they'll both go far.

I think David Cook could pull off a great song for the Twilight soundtrack. He's got a very unique sound and can make any song his own and make it sound good. I like Archuleta too, but for Twilight, he, I think is a bit too soft pop ballad type of singer, and it wouldn't really fit with Twilight. However, you never know.
hummingbird , May 21, 2008
...
NOOOOOO!! Sorry the fans but I'm not American, I barely know those peolpe but I don't think they would fit on the kind of music the fans want for twilight...
claudia , May 21, 2008
...
I continue to prefer something like Muse, or in that style
claudia , May 21, 2008
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
if someone in american idol sings in twilight i would preffer that there wouldnt be no soundtrack at all!. I like the auditions in american idol because its funny to see how much they pay to strangers to make fool out of themselves to atract viewers but thats it. Idol its so comercial and fake and not twilight-y at all. Please listen to meyer and the fans who are the people that are going to watch the movie smilies/cry.gif
Blaaaa! , May 21, 2008
Absolutely NOT!!!
Can we have some real musicians on the soundtrack please. Someone who can actually write and perform their own music instead just covering someone else's. smilies/angry.gif
frankie , May 21, 2008 | url
...
I can definitely see David Cook's music fitting in with Twilight. I know Stephenie Meyer has a list of music that inspired her while writing the book, but that doesn't mean different music can't be explored (I know a few people have expressed how displeased they would be if the soundtrack strayed from Meyer's original vision). Meyer has given the movie producers artistic license here, and I'm interested to see what songs come up in Twilight. David Cook would definitely be an interesting artist to include.
Libby , May 21, 2008
...
NO AMERICAN IDOL! I am really not a huge fan, i'd rather hear unknown alternative music, not crap that is overplayed on the radio. How bout a bit of Muse?!! smilies/cheesy.gif
Sarah b. , May 21, 2008
...
You're kidding, right? How off the mark can you be? This is perhaps the worst idea that I have heard of for the soundtrack. Besides, Twilight's fanbase reaches beyond an American audience and why would you inflict that mediocre rubbish on the rest of the world?

SM would NOT approve!
qwerty , May 21, 2008
...
Hum. I don't know. And I don't know. You should have an "I don't know" choice. xD
My only concern will be that it'd sound too pop-y, is all.
Taxi , May 21, 2008
...
This really isn't an issue, neither of them will get picked to sing for twilight, Stephanie loves MUSE.
Kerrie , May 22, 2008
whaaaaaaaaaat?
WHY?!

meyer has a list of all the songs and artists that inspired her while writing twilight, songs that match up with parts of the books. why mess with it with american idol?
kendra , May 22, 2008
...
I'm a David A. fan just because I think he looks like Jacob Black.

However, I wouldn't complain if either of the two sang for the soundtrack.

As long as the song doesn't suck.
Heather , May 22, 2008
Why sing songs?
I don't like the idea of sining at all. I want it to be real film music! Like in Harry Potter(and Narnia, etc.)
evanna11 , May 22, 2008 | url
DAVID COOK!!
DC rocks! I love him. If he sings on Twilight, it would be like the best thing ever for me. Again, like many have said, IF the song isn't crappy.
I'm soooo glad DC won!
tiff , May 24, 2008
...
y'all are acting like muse are like... god or something. okay, they inspired stephenie but a WHOLE soundtrack muse... i'll literally PUKE!
