Even those who predicted that Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight would be a smash were shocked! Reports the Associated Press via AOL: - - -
![]() - - - "The Dark Knight" took in a record $155.34 million in its first weekend, topping the previous best of $151.1 million for "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007 and pacing Hollywood to its biggest weekend ever, according to studio estimates Sunday.Glowing reviews of the movie before its wide release can be credited as a factor for the fantastic box office results. But the level of buzz generated by the movie has always been very high, starting way way back with the amazing viral marketing campaign that engaged fans in tantalizing ways. Even though the passing of Heath Ledger made this movie one of the most anticipated of the year, credit should also be given to Nolan and his team for such a superb production - from the awesome cast led by Christian Bale to the special effects and all the superhero gadgetry! Says tMF Film Admin Jeremy Welch in his review, praising Heath Ledger's performance: His Joker is sadistic, nihilistic, shows no empathy and is completely devoid of any character arc. What’s more, Ledger disappears into the role not just in his over-the-top approach to the character, but in the subtleties - the way he carries himself, the way he licks his lips like a rabid dog in between lines of dialogue, and even the Joker’s trademark maniacal laugh has a psychotic tinge to it. As sad as it is that Ledger is not around to see and promote the film, it only fuels the performance further. In the same way that the movie gives us no explanation as to the Joker’s origin, we are also left to wonder just how Ledger managed to bring that character to life the way he did. His interpretation is perfect in every sense of the word and the lack of clarification makes it only more haunting. It is hard to overlook the impact his death had on the movie but if he wins the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor (as he deserves to do), it will be because he gave us a brilliant performance, not because he can’t do it again.tMF Film Reviewer David DiMichele praised the filmmaker in his film review of the same movie: Nolan’s vision of the unseen city is both instinctive and glorious. An anarchic world that broadcasts a sense of corruption in every direction the camera looks. Gotham City (filmed in Chicago) is a confused metropolis of people who can’t come to terms with paying the respect that is overdue to Batman (Christian Bale). Bruce Wayne’s alter ego is willing to take time out from his playboy life and to gain bumps and bruises in order to rid the city that his late father built of corruption. The idea of being a vigilante inspires him to put on a mask resembling Batman and do what he does, resulting in chaos. He might be the superhero with the most guilt ever. What he does and how he thinks issues out are what make him the most realistic of all superheroes. I'm really hoping Heath Ledger grabs an Oscar for his Joker! x Comments (1)

It would seem hard to talk about Casey Affleck without mentioning his brother Ben or vice versa. The brothers have been the subject of many articles - from their looks and their relationships to Ben’s decision to cast his brother in Gone Baby Gone and the completely different career paths both guys took on: Casey remained oblivious to the glamour and glitz of Hollywood, while Ben adjusted to the glare of being in the spotlight. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers - The 30-year old Irish actor is known for speaking his mind- he is quite vocal about a number of issues- from the failings of the film industry to dealing with directors with huge egos to the irrelevance of celebrities & the lack of real talent in some of today’s biggest box-office stars. Not many people are blessed with the opportunity to enter a deeply rewarding and exciting career. In the case of Michael Angarano, it has been like that since he was 5 years old.
