"I'll admit to the fact that I'm a sucker for singers, and when said singers are singing songs by my all time favorite band, there is an added bonus. I absolutely adored his performance in Across the Universe, and I knew 100% that he was going to take off - especially with the young ladies!"

Finally! We're featuring an awesome fansite that is not only pleasing to the eye, it also offers so much to the fans, and while you might still think Jim Sturgess is not an awesome actor, once you've visited this amazing site, you'll think again. tMF is proud to launch our site of the month - Jim Strugess dot Org!

What's the story behind the Jim Sturgess.org website? Who are the people working towards its success?

Ali: JimSturgess.org was an idea I got directly from seeing Across the Universe. I realized that Jim was going to get a HUGE following the second the movie was over. I had joked with my friends about making a site, but in reality I really did want to make one. From the very beginning I had the goal of seeing how far I can take it. I had every intentions of making it the best Jim Sturgess site out there, but I had absolutely no skill at website design. I advertised for a week or so, looking for a webmaster to take over for me. At this point, I had a very, very horrible little temporary site going on. Jessica eventually contacted me, and the second she said she did web design, I "hired" her. I didn't even know her name I don't think, and I pretty much said "Ok, you're the co-webmaster now!" The site became a REAL site after that, and it has been growing ever since.

Jess: And we have MANY people who help us out. There is Meg from Quebec who moderates the forum that has almost over 400 members. Willow from New York moderates as well. We have a fantastic lady named Diane from ? who keeps up with all the news on Jim and helps us keep it up to date. We couldn't do it without them!

What made you fans of Jim Sturgess? What would you consider his qualities that made you think he's worth the time, effort and energy? What movie or news about him that motivated you to launch this fansite?

Ali: I, as well as everyone else in the community on our website, first saw Jim play the character Jude in Across the Universe. I'll admit to the fact that I'm a sucker for singers, and when said singers are singing songs by my all time favorite band, there is an added bonus. I absolutely adored his performance in Across the Universe, and I knew 100% that he was going to take off - especially with the young ladies.

Jess: Unlike Ali, I went into Across The Universe with no previous love for the Beatles. I went to see it because it deals with history, which I love. Jim was a major unexpected bonus to the movie. Fresh new talent and a fantastic singer!

In his career so far, he has shown an ability for diversity in the characters he has played and that is what I think makes some actors as great as they are. They don't play the same roles over and over - they try new things. Like Ali, it was clear to me that he was going to go places. It was just a matter of time.

What would you consider the most fun/enjoyable part of operating the website? What's the most difficult?

Ali: I absolutely love running this website because it is so much fun. Jessica might think otherwise, however, because she does all of the coding (which I don't think can be all that fun in large quantities.) The best part of this website by far is the contact we have been able to establish with Jim himself. We have worked very hard to build the relationships we have with select people. The reason that it is the best is because we actually get to provide the fans with firsthand information, and we even create a real interaction between fan and actor.

Jess: In all honesty, the most difficult part is communicating with Ali before I do work on the site. I like to be able to discuss things with her but she lives in New York, so our communication is mostly done through instant messaging or text messages. We both have become progressively busy over the summer and it's frustrating sometimes trying to organize a time where we can just sit down and discuss the site... our staff and regulars on the forum can vouch for my slightly bad temper when I get frustrated!

In operating the site, what sort of technical skills are important? Image/graphics editing, code/html/php, email, announcements, research - what would you say about these tasks and how important are they in maintaining a website?

Jess: They are all an important part of maintaining a fansite. When you have all of them, that is when you have a site. Your content and layout need to be fresh and it needs to be organized. I take care of the majority of the coding, which as the site grows only seems to become more challenging because we are coded in HTML rather than PHP. There are people out there who do design specifically for fansites and some are fairly priced, but the majority can become quite expensive when you look at ordering bigger packages or completely designed sites. That's why there is the option of hiring, usually, voluntary staff. You can hire people who have individual talents and things to offer the site. It's become a handy option for us.

I think one of the most important things are resources, though. One thing we are currently struggling with is gallery resources to stock photo websites. We only have access to one - we are actually hiring right now for people who have access to more than we do!

How different/unique is the website compared to other fansites out there?

Ali: We offer direct contact with Jim himself. I don't think many fansites can offer that. For example, we held a contest and allowed members of our original forums to send in questions they would ask Jim if they ever got the chance. Little did they know that we had set up an interview with Jim and used some of their questions. We also compiled a scrapbook for his 27th birthday, and that was sent out to Jim. We got a very lovely reply from him, as well as a picture of him holding the book we made!

Any advice to fans who want to launch a site of their own dedicated to a fave actor/actress?

Ali: If it is a new actor, get moving and make that site fast! If you get an early hook, it seems that you will probably thrive a bit better than other sites. If you aren't about competition (which we aren't), it's just as important to know what to do. You have to know how to get yourself staff and how to get yourself on search engines. Do your research first!

Jess: Make sure you have resources. Offer as much content and information as possible about your actor or actress. Make sure your site has whatever info is out on other sites. Look around at other fansites for other actors/actresses to get an idea of what other sites are doing as far as design and content. I've always thought of websites as music, in a way. The internet changes daily and you need to keep up with the times!

What are some of your future plans in relation to the site?

Ali: We have some cool things in mind, but we try to surprise our visitors with it (so we can't tell!). As far as the website goes, we're working on making it more organized, and we are desperately trying to get a better source for pictures. Visitors can look forward to a fresh new look pretty soon.

Last question, I think your site is proud of its relationship with the actor himself, Jim Sturgess. Launching an exclusive interview and featuring close interaction with the actor makes the site truly unique. Personally, how do you find him as a person? What strikes you about Jim the most?

Jess: What strikes me the most is how extremely down to earth he is. He seems so normal! I know people say that a lot about their own actors, but he is very genuine and is grateful for all the support he gets from his fans. He hasn't let his fame get to him and I don't think he ever will!

Jim is the REAL DEAL
Well, the title says it. Jim is a genuine, honest person, totally worth the time and energy to support and keep up with. I love him and am so incredibly happy to see the kind of people that are drawn to him are also cool, smart people who can tell the difference between the 'no-talent, empty-headed pretty boy' type people who are famous today and guys like Jim, who is SO much more than that. smilies/grin.gif smilies/cheesy.gif

Amazing...
Im a member on the JSO forum and like Jessica and Ali says, Jim is a very down to earth person. I had teh oppertunity to have myself in the birthday book and when I found out that he finally got it and he loved it, it made all of our hard work, pay off. He's a down to earth person and very genuine and very very humble. He's lovley and I agree with every bit of information that is placed in this interview.
