BellaAndEdward.com was started in October of 2006. I had just finished reading Twilight and was still in that "trance" phase that it tends to give some people, haha. I had developed a passion for web designing about two years before and, after a couple of non-successful sites that I decided to shut down, I started over. I noticed that there weren't very many Twilight fansites online (at the time, there really wasn't) and I was like, "What the heck, I'll give this a shot!" - - -
Here's our interview with Michelle:![]() - - - In our continuing series featuring top Twilight sites, we're thrilled to launch our interview with one of the most creative and coolest Twilight site owner on the web, Michelle from Bella and Edward.
About Twilight
When did you first read Stephenie's Twilight? How would you sum up your feelings and reactions after finishing the book? I first read Twilight for a school summer reading project, in the summer of '06. I was hooked right after the Cullens made their first appearance in the cafeteria scene! I felt so attached the the book and I fell in love with the characters... I couldn't stop reading the story of Bella and Edward and I didn't put it down until I finished the book. To be honest, it was a weird feeling, I had never cared for nor loved fictional characters as much as Stephenie Meyer made me care for and love Bella and Edward. Personally, which of the characters do you identify with the most? Of the many Twilight characters, who among them do you really admire? How about the ones you dislike or find annoying? How do you find the development of the lead characters? Definitely a human, lol. Probably Bella since she's just your average high school girl, and she's not perfect or incredibly gorgeous or anything. I wouldn't really say I "admire" any of the characters as a whole, but more like bits and pieces of their personalities and such. For example, I admire the Cullen family for having the willpower to be "vegetarians" and not feed on humans. Carlisle, especially, for being able to work as a doctor! That takes some skill, lol. While I don't hate any character in the Twilight series, there are some that aren't my favorites... Rosalie, for example. But even she develops into a more likable character as the series progresses. Bella, on the other hand, actually turned out to be quite annoying by the end of Eclipse. The whole situation with Jacob and Edward really brought out the whiny side of her. Are there certain questions you have about these characters that remain unanswered to this day? I wish I could give a more lengthy answer, but no, nothing major. What's your favorite passages in Twilight? Why? Hmmm... that's tough. I'd probably have to say the part at the end of Twilight when Alice and Jasper are helping Bella escape from James. That and the part before that when Bella and the Cullens are in the car and they're arguing over what to do with Bella. There's just so much tension building up within those passages and I love how the characters react to each other in that situation. I've actually acted out that passage for fun :) If you could tell Stephenie Meyer something about her work or something altogether unrelated to her books, but something you simply want to express, what would it be? First of all, a HUGE thank you... for everything! For creating these amazing characters, for making their story so intriguing, and most of all, for inspiring me to create BellaAndEdward.com! Second, I would tell her how unique I think her writing is. I've never read a book where the author made me fall in love with the plot line and the characters. For an author to be able to do that is pretty neat! For you personally, why did the book affect you in such a way that you were compelled to seek out other readers and eventually become one active Twilight fan who actively participates in boards and the like? Like I mentioned above, after I finished reading, I still felt attached to the book and I felt like Bella and Edward were real people that I knew. I didn't want to stop reading about them and their story, so I figured the easiest way to keep that alive in my mind (without waiting for the next book) was to talk to people about it. Unfortunately, none of my friends had read the book when I first read it so I had no choice but to move into the online world and talk with the people there! What are your plans in watching the movie? Midnight release! Haha, I'm considering it, but it's not set in stone yet since I have school that Friday :( I'm hoping it'll all work out somehow though. If I can't make the midnight showing I'm probably going with a group of friends Friday night. About Bella and Edward
Tell us the story behind Bella and Edward dot com? How did you come up with the idea for the website?Who are the people working behind the scenes and making the site a success? BellaAndEdward.com was started in October of 2006. I had just finished reading Twilight and was still in that "trance" phase that it tends to give some people, haha. I had developed a passion for web designing about two years before and, after a couple of non-successful sites that I decided to shut down, I started over. I noticed that there weren't very many Twilight fansites online (at the time, there really wasn't) and I was like, "What the heck, I'll give this a shot!" So I did, and all I have to say is that the site has grown... a lot! There were times when I felt like I just couldn't keep up with parts of the site and with the amount of news needed to be posted everyday, with school and stuff, and that's when help came! I cannot thank my staff enough for all of the hard work they've put into the site, without them... well, I really don't want to imagine what BellaAndEdward.com would be like without them! But I can say it definitely would not be nearly as popular as it is now. Also, my parents have given me a tremendous amout of support throughout the years, BellaAndEdward.com wouldn't even exist if it weren't for them! And of course, all of the fans who visit the site, they keep the site alive. After all, what's a fansite with no fans? What's the most inspiring thing about the site? What's the most difficult? The most inspiring thing about the site would have to be the fact that people from all over the world come and visit. It's always so amazing to me when I receive emails from places like Brazil, Australia, and even Greece! I never imagined that I would talk to people from all around the world, and of course, it's great that they all love Twilight just as much as I do! The most difficult thing is probably coming up with new ideas for the visitors and fans. I try to keep the site up-to-date with fresh pages and new additions every once in a while, just so peole don't get bored! :) Sometimes I get a writer's (no wait, webmaster's) block, lol. What would you consider to be some of the features of Bella and Edward dot com to make it unique among the many Twilight fansites? BellaAndEdward.com has a forum that has a pretty long history. Actually, it's been around since the site opened. Many of the members have grown to become very good friends with each other and it's kind of like a "second home" (if a forum can be a second home!) to some people. Also, we try to be as fast as possible with the news so the fans can get the latest info right when it happens! I think we've got a pretty good system going :) And third, we post lots of international news as well as news related to the USA. Two of the staff members actually live outside of the US and I think that helps in attracting international visitors. What would be some of your future plans for the website? I want to try to make BellaAndEdward.com the best I can possibly make it! Sounds simple I know, but I want to give the fans a reason to visit even after the Twilight Saga is over. Huge Fan!
Everyday I go to the main Twilight site but today I felt adventourous and decided to check some out and when I saw this site I almost went crazy with how accurate this webite is to the books. You can see this website was written a long time ago, but that doesn't matter, the facts about the books are correct. Bella and Edwards relationship is more than romantic, it shows how loyal they are to eachother. And I agree that Bella kind of got on my nerves when she was trying to decide if she loved Jacob or Edward. But in the end she came through. I love this site!

During the craziness of the Comic-Con coverage, BAE had the most information out the fastest! You guys did such a great job with the firehose of information coming in -- I just had to refresh my screen every few minutes to get more stuff to check out! Big big thank you!!
