Murphy-Watch: Cillian's new flicks! PDF Print E-mail

UPDATES: Just in from Reuters!

Irish actor Cillian Murphy will join Al Pacino in a movie about Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali.

"Dali & I: The Surreal Story," which will span the 1960s-80s, follows the time in Dali's life when most of his great work was behind him and he became more flamboyant. Dali (Pacino) also developed a mentor-protege relationship with a young art dealer named Stan Lauryssens (Murphy).

The indie film is scheduled to begin shooting in early 2008 on location in Spain and New York. Andrew Niccol is directing from an adaptation of Lauryssens' memoir "Dali and I." The part of Gala, Dali's wife, has yet to be cast

Cillian Murphy's latest film Sunshine has its share of positive and negative reviews, but the talented Irish actor, who already received two nominations for the BAFTA Rising Star award, continues to busy himself with roles in diverse and challenging film projects.

Project #1: Sienna Miller and Cillian Murphy have signed on to star in Hippie Hippie Shake. The film is based on Richard Neville's memoir and will be directed by Beeban Kidron (Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason). Neville's book provides an inside look at the 1971 Oz obscenity trial which was then the longest running obscenity trial in British history.

Neville and his co-defendants Jim Anderson and Felix Dennis were charged with conspiracy to corrupt the morals of young children and young persons. The issue of Oz magazine in question was known as 'School Kids' and was put together by real school kids in response to charges that the magazine's editors were out of touch with the younger generation. The defendants were convicted but their sentence was overturned on appeal. Max Minghella and Emma Booth have also joined the film which is expected to begin shooting this fall.

Project #2: From Cinematical (again!) Cillian Murphy Spotted on 'Dark Knight' Set

"Although his involvement in the Batman sequel has been rumored for quite a while now, Superhero Hype has received a spy report that seems to confirm Cillian's Murphy's participation in The Dark Knight. Of course, this all depends on how trustworthy the spy is -- but since they were present during filming and took pictures (none of which clearly featured Murphy though), I'll take their word for it. Beware of potential spoilers ahead. According to the spy, last night Christopher Nolan and his crew were shooting a scene that involved a confrontation of sorts between two gangs, one of which he (or she) called "the Scarecrow gang." Here's a snippet of the report: "Around 2:30-3ish they returned to the set and started filming two gangs fighting with each other. Then I spotted Cillian and they filmed him yelling at the gang. The sound of gunfire blasted and everyone ran for cover. They repeated this over and over again."

After a few images that clearly show two groups of people meeting for what looks like a "secret deal", the spy continues: "So after a few takes of that... they moved to the side of the van. I saw a Batman... It had to be a stunt double. And him and Scarecrow had a struggle and ended with the crow gassing Batman. Batman fell to the ground holding his face screaming."

Fast Forward: Ryan Gosling PDF Print E-mail

After the success of Half-Nelson for which  Ryan Gosling received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, the talented young Canadian actor is keeping busy working on upcoming films.

In one of his new films, he's to play a character who falls in love with a life-size doll. Lars and the Real Girl is the touching and humorous story of a man whose emotional baggage keeps him from fully embracing life. After years of almost solitude, Lars (Academy Award® nominee Ryan Gosling) invites Bianca, a friend he met on the internet, to visit him. He introduces Bianca to his brother Gus and his wife Karen and they are stunned. They don’t know what to say to Lars or to Bianca – because she is a life-size doll. Although she is not a real person, he treats her as though she is alive. They consult the family doctor who explains this is a delusion that Lars has created – for what reason she doesn’t yet know - but they should all just go along with it.

What follows is an emotional journey for Lars and the people around him. Written by Six Feet Under scribe Nancy Oliver and directed by Craig Gillespie of New Line Cinema’s upcoming Mr. Woodcock.

Just announced by Cinematical, Gosling is now part of Peter Jackson's 'The Lovely Bones'.

Ryan Gosling has just signed on to star opposite Rachel Weisz (who was cast earlier this month) in the pic. Both will play the parents of a girl who's murdered. That girl subsequently watches over her friends, family and murderer from heaven while she attempts to come to terms with her death. A lot of people will be watching Jackson on this film; although it's bound to include its fair share of special effects (curious to see what he does with heaven and the supernatural element), this is a much smaller film for a guy that's coming off four epic flicks in a row. It's emotional, it's gut-wrenching -- and with Weisz and Gosling, he certainly has a wonderful foundation in place. The film will begin shooting this October in Pennsylvania and New Zealand, with Paramount distributing worldwide.

tMF certainly has its eyes on a number of talented actors- Matthew Goode, Giovanni Ribisi, Nick Stahl and more. At the moment, we have below our latest profiles, with more coming up soon!

It would seem hard to talk about Casey Affleck without mentioning his brother Ben or vice versa. The brothers have been the subject of many articles - from their looks and their relationships to Ben’s decision to cast his brother in Gone Baby Gone and the completely different career paths both guys took on: Casey remained oblivious to the glamour and glitz of Hollywood, while Ben adjusted to the glare of being in the spotlight. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers - The 30-year old Irish actor is known for speaking his mind- he is quite vocal about a number of issues- from the failings of the film industry to dealing with directors with huge egos to the irrelevance of celebrities & the lack of real talent in some of today’s biggest box-office stars. Not many people are blessed with the opportunity to enter a deeply rewarding and exciting career. In the case of Michael Angarano, it has been like that since he was 5 years old. As a young model, he was exposed early to the hustle and bustle of a glam job. Not surprisingly, he began his successful transition into acting a couple of years later. [ read more ]

Kostja Ullmann: Taking on such a challenging role is not a new departure for the actor. After appearing in a variety of shows on German television, Ullmann was offered the role of Achim, one of the leads in Marco Kreuzpaintner’s Summer Storm. [ read more ]
