The Movie-Fanatic wishes to ask visitors and fans of Ryan Gosling to join and participate in this worthy cause. We believed what has been written below is more than enough for you to consider and do your share...

"The 12th of November is Ryan Gosling's 27th birthday, and with your help it could be one that he will never forget. This project hopes to go above and beyond what any other 'fan'-organized birthday project has done before, because it involves a very important organization, and an issue that is very near and dear to Ryan. From now through the end of October*, we will be collecting donations [via PayPal, money order, and even cash] that will then be donated to aid Invisible Children's quest to improve the lives of children living in the harsh circumstances of Northern Uganda. The money that is collected will be donated directly to the cause in Ryan's name, which is a very special honor to someone who is as involved as Ryan is. The organization is a very important one, and we want to salute the individuals, like Ryan, who have been so invested in the ongoing fight for the cause.

Once the donations are all collected, we will then be presenting Ryan with a special certificate awarding him on his great work for the cause and also informing him of the amount of money that was raised and donated in his honor.

It's a chance for our generation to become involved in an important movement that will continue to grow larger and larger, spreading knowledge and awareness. With this project, not only are we providing the opportunity for everyone from all around the globe to donate via PayPal (which has not been an option for this specific cause up until now), but it's also a bonus opportunity for Ryan Gosling fans and supporters to be involved in making something very special come alive for him and in showing him how crucial a role he has played in generating awareness for this issue.

From the Invisible Children myspace, you may want to watch this:

Ryan Gosling is regarded not only as an outstanding actor, but also as a social activist. One who is not afraid to express and voice his opinions, especially on important and serious world issues including hunger, child soldiers and the problems in Darfur. For a few dollars, you can join his cause and make a difference. Its about time we do something!

Very Worthwhile Cause!
Jed, thanks for doing this feature and informing us of this very worthwhile cause! What a great idea and project, done in honor of Ryan's passion and activism towards this organization. I'm sure Ryan himself will be very touched by this gesture, knowing that this project will be giving a donation in his name. I hope this project will raise alot of money. All tMF visitors, please spread the word.

I have read how involved Ryan is in so many causes important to him. I believe I even read in an interview that he went to New Orleans to help with the cleanup, after the devistation they experienced there, and people loosing their homes.

I will especially be interested to hear more about Ryan's directorial debut film he will be making about child soldiers in Africa. It so happens Ryan was attached to a future 2008 film called The Other Side, which is suppose to start filming this November in my Canadian province....but supposedly he won't be doing The Other Side, because its filming conflicts with the dates of him filming and directing his movie on child soldiers. It has been said in interviews that this movie on child soldiers, is his main priority at this time.

If I may, still pertaining on the subject here about child soldiers, perhaps some of you may have heard of a young man named Ishmael Beah who was himself a child soldier in Sierra Leone, and lived through it to tell his story. I would like to post an interview with this young man telling his compelling story of what happened to him. He gives much insight on how they recruit and brainwash children into becoming soldiers who kill. Also, included below is a link to this young man's memoire he wrote about his experiences being a child soldier.

Ishmael Beah

Of course, not everyone who's a soldier, wants to fight in a war.

Child soldiers don't get to decide. They're forced into it. There are about 300 thousand child soldiers around the world. 14, 15, 16 years old and some are as young as nine.

His name Ishmael Beah. Ishmael was a child soldier in Sierra Leone. By the age of 16, he'd committed crimes you can't even imagine. But he was one of the lucky ones. He was repatriated by the United Nations, and given a new chance in life.

He moved to New York and has written a book about his experiences.

It's called "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier."
