Jan, our Research admin posted one particularly cool news! [ Source ] Here's just an excerpt: --- DiCaprio, Moore, Willis use Web to sell films --- When Leonardo DiCaprio's "The 11th Hour" trailer went up on his MySpace page, the site got overloaded with so many trailer views that the stat counter started going backwards.

I also thought this was a very interesting article when I came upon it. Thanks Jed for featuring it here on the main site as well.
This excerpt was the most interesting of all, I'm sure you would agree.... The dynamic between celebrities and their audience is shifting. The critics and the media no longer have the last word. Thanks to evolving technology, moviemakers and stars have new weapons to not only promote their projects directly to moviegoers, but to fight back against what they perceive as misinformation. They are taking advantage of their Internet fanbases to promote their projects, skipping the marketing middlemen and interacting directly with the people who buy tickets. Fan sites offer them valuable feedback about what their audiences like and dislike. But they also offer an opportunity to set the record straight. And sometimes, change the world. What's quite interesting about this statement is that critics and the media don't perhaps have the control they once had, to either make or break a film sort of speak. In alot of ways, I think its great that film makers and actors are asking the fans directly what they think!! After reading this article, I happen to have come upon and read some other opinions on the net concerning the other side's views on this subject, which in some ways when you think about it, they do perhaps have a bit of a point as well.... I've read some fans say that they like the movie websites that aren't afraid to give their honest opinions, good or bad, on films and don't feel that they have to censor themselves per say (which I'm in agreement, within reason of course). Yet, their take on this subject about celebs/studios going on sites/contacting them to pitch or comment on their projects is that, some fans feel that then these movie sites are no longer acting as independent sort of speak. That perhaps in some ways, their sort of being controlled by studios to pitch/recommend their projects sort of speak. Those are some of the other sides opinions that I've read on this subject on the net. I often like to read or hear two sides to a story, and then decide. Just thought I would also give the other sides opinion as well about this. Hope you don't mind. I do agree though, that this is a very interesting way in which celebs are promoting their films, and obviously movie sites and fans matter quite a bit more than before, which is pretty cool I think. I'd be interested to hear others opinions on this article. Please don't be shy!
