Brothers Ben and Casey Affleck are a study of contradiction. There seems to be no striking resemblance between the two, even the way the media looks at them. But they have been working together in various film projects from the start. While Casey seems to be the 'brooding, silent' type, Ben is the exact opposite. Hugging the limelight early on, Ben Affleck is best known not only for his roles in some amazing films, but also for being part of a number of box office failures of recent years. But let's concentrate on the younger Affleck for now...

Casey began his acting career almost quietly. He was amazing in The Last Kiss with Zach Braff, and in Gerry with Matt Damon. But in two recent features, he was simply outstanding.

In one of this 2 acclaimed movies, "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" Casey played Robert Ford. Says Daniel Kasman:

"The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford has an aura of specialness about it that can be misleading. Exquisitely shot by the great Roger Deakins in a manner that, in combination with director Andrew Dominik’s thoughtful, existential adaptation of Ron Hansen’s book, calls to mind the work of Terence Malick, and the film’s meta-casting of Brad Pitt as the legendary Jesse James one might consider the film one of pretentious artistic ambitious and revisionist aspirations. But Dominik’s film is not myth-investigating, nor a comment on “The Western,” but rather a film, plain and simple, which, like Robert Ford (a wondrous, dreamy performance by Casey Affleck), has lived in a world where real life has been transformed into pulp nickel-store novels and the real difficulty is believing anything anymore. "

In a recent interview, Casey opened up to express some of his views, regarding the film and working with Brad Pitt. Says the young actor:

"Brad’s really smart, he knew how to control that relationship, when to be intimidating and when to be gregarious and open and he can be both of those things. He was really helpful."

On his character, Robert Ford:

"That’s such an incredible piece of history and I don’t know why that story hasn’t been told before. It’s just fascinating that he becomes almost a hero, he does these shows re-enacting the murder. Then the country turns on him like that [snaps fingers] which must be devastating I imagine; he has everything he wants and then gets the rug pulled from under him. Then he can’t run away from it wherever he goes. He finds himself in some tiny mining town up in the Rockies and still people are hanging dead cats from his door and calling him a traitor; he’d build up a business and they’d burn it down. They’d run him out of town, he’d go somewhere else and it would happen again. You got to hand it to him he never backed down, he never gave in. He just kept going, he was relentless. "

In Gone Baby Gone, Casey teams up with his brother to produce one of the year's best films.

Excerpts from our film review follows:

What started as your garden variety kidnapping movie ended up being so much more. Not just the difference between right and wrong, but the definitions of the two, the degree to which people can be right and or wrong, and everyone’s interpretations of what they perceive all of it to be. The movie begs the question, “How far would you go to do the right thing?” Everyone in the movie has an agenda and a solid argument for why their definition is right, but this movie, and the questions it raises, is much more than a simply right and wrong. If only it were that easy. [ read full review ]
