Ryan Donowho- Little Drummer Boy and/or the Real Indie Kid

I hope to stay fairly under the radar. I just want to do work that I can be proud of and make people feel something profound," says Ryan Donowho.

You maybe familiar with the young actor having seen him in a number of The O.C. episodes. Other actors may have had second thoughts about playing such a doomed character but not Ryan. With such good looks, it's fairly easy for the guy to star in the familiar boy-next-door type of roles. But it seems he likes something different.

Kristen Stewart talks Twilight, Into the Wild and Yellow Handkerchief
Written by Jed Medina

First on our list of upcoming profiles of young actresses is Kristen Stewart. I first heard of her and thought, this girl is fabulous, when I watched Undertow. That's another David Gordon Green movie with the awesome Jamie Bell in the lead role. While her role is a bit short, she made quite an impression as Jamie Bell's girl, whose parents disapprove of the young man. Undertow is one of Jamie's most acclaimed films and from there Miss Stewart went from strength to strength.

Kristen also made waves in Sean Penn's Into the Wild, the movie that really made Emile Hirsch a star to watch. Says Kristen on her audition for the role (the actress auditioned for Sean Penn with a song):

Music is one of the most emotionally expressive things you can do. If I’m not feelin’ it, I can’t sing. Those two nights [where she sings for a crowd in the film], something was going on. It’s not always you can give that much. But, yeah, it’s intimidating. I went in and played "Blackbird” for him. That’s a hard song to sing to. I’m not a singer. I can play it but he was really funny about it. He asked me if I didn’t want him to look at me. "Do you want me to turn around?” "No, you have to see it.” But, I’d never done anything like that. It takes a guy like Sean to make you come to it and pump out the words.

Review by Jeremy Welsch

One of the cardinal rules of good filmmaking is to not underestimate the intelligence of your audience. There are different levels but it makes you wonder which is the bigger crime: not trusting your audience to figure out a movie on its own without being hit over the head with the answer, or thinking they aren’t smart enough to notice that they could have known the answer if given a way to do so. One of the first lines in Jumper told me all I needed to know about the intentions of the film:

“It didn’t used to be this way. I used to be a regular chump. Like you.”

Great…

Robert Pattinson wants to live forever!
Written by Jed Medina
Saturday, 16 February 2008

When the news was announced that Robert Pattinson will play Edward Cullen in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight, I had mixed feelings. You see, Kat (my partner at tMF) has read the book (she's actually read all of Ms. Meyer's novels to date!) and has been telling me how awesome Ms. Meyer's works are. She has some ideas regarding who should play Edward Cullen.

We're very much into the modeling scene, having operated a popular website for male models for the past 7 years [ Modelwatch: Male Modeling on a Global Scale ] and there are some great guys who could really play the role of Edward to perfection. There are also some awesome talents like Tom Sturridge and Gaspard Ulliel whom we felt could take the part and do justice to the role...

We had not heard of Mr. Pattinson until somebody told me that he's that guy from the Harry Potter film who got killed - Cedric Diggory. Now that he's been cast, we @tMF think he'll be a fantastic Edward Cullen! AND to top it all, he's also modeling, and with Jamie Strachan no less! (Strachan happens to be one of the most popular models we interviewed at ModelWatch).

Back to casting. There were similar news/tidbits during the time when Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire was into film production. Ms. Rice apparently had doubts about Tom Cruise playing her Vampire Lestat, but after seeing the movie, she decided Cruise was fine. It's great that Ms. Meyer is quite different from her fellow author.

"I am ecstatic with Summit's choice for Edward. There are very few actors who can look both dangerous and beautiful at the same time, and even fewer who I can picture in my head as Edward. Robert Pattinson is going to be amazing."

tMF Top Five - Best Zombie Movies

"...George A. Romero’s feature length debut revolutionized horror by taking if from a genre to an industry."

George A. Romero may not have invented the zombie movie, but you cannot question the fact that he revolutionized it. The man has made a career out of terrorizing audiences with all things flesh-eating, and the like.

My personal taste for zombie or horror in general is pedestrian at best. For every one really good one, there are a hundred knock offs that do nothing but embarrass the genre. Today marks the latest entry as George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead hits theatres. What better way to celebrate the genre Romero perfected than to discuss the ones that stand head and shoulders above the rest?

Jamie Bell doesn't need to be the lead to shine!
Written by Jed Medina
Friday, 15 February 2008

People seem to hate Hayden Christensen, we don't. We simply don't like him as an actor. In Jumper, the latest from Doug Liman, Christensen continued his acting tradition of mediocrity and blandness. He simply is one of the most boring young actors we have today.

While Jamie Bell is a different story. If I recall correctly, right after his success in Billy Elliot, Bell decided to take a different route and played a supporting role to Charlie Hunnam in Nicholas Nickleby. It's a good career choice- proving for a fact that he can act and can take on any roles. In Jumper, he is the only redeeming value in this disappointing film.

LATEST NEWS: Three Actors To Pay Tribute To Heath Ledger In 'Imaginarium'
Written by Jan
Friday, 15 February 2008

Ain't it Cool is reporting that  Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell will supposedly all fill in for the remaining parts of Heath Ledger's role in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

I must admit upon hearing this that it would be a tremendous show of support and tribute to Heath Ledger. Terry Gilliam's film starring the late actor remains a must-see! To have these actors pay tribute would be added attraction.

"Have I mentioned how much I love this idea? Because I do. I think it’s beautiful that the script loaned itself to this sort of idea, that we’re going to see Heath Ledger’s work in Terry Gilliam’s new film, and that we’re also going to see three very interesting actors step up to offer interpretations of him as a way of paying one final tribute to this actor whose career was cut so sadly short. We’ve heard rumors about who might be stepping in, but now we’ve got the names verified. Count on it.

JOHNNY DEPP. JUDE LAW. COLIN FARRELL"

Movies in 2007: Best performances from young actors: The Summary
Written by Jed Medina
Thursday, 14 February 2008

2007 was a good year for young talents. While the Oscars (and the BAFTA) favor the more matured, seasoned actors like Julie Christie, Daniel Day Lewis, Laura Linney, and George Clooney, there are a number of awesome performances from younger talents this year.

Ellen Page leads the pack for her notable performance in Juno. Keira Knightley, Soairse Ronan and Romola Garai did quite well (terrific actually!) in Atonement. Kristen Stewart is beginning to show why she is a big contender for the ‘awesome actress of the future’ award. Abbie Cornish did well in Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

For 2007, we considered 2 actors for their breakthrough performances: Andrew Garfield in Boy A and Alexander Fehling in And Along Came Tourist.

tMF’s top 10 best performances in 2007

#10. Elio Germano- My Brother is an Only Child. Italy's most exciting and talented young actor, Elio Germano is simply amazing in this coming of age drama. Germano is Accio Benassi, the younger of the two brothers and the main focus of the film.

- - -

- - -

Taken from the novel "Il fasciocomunista", the movie is about Italy from the eyes of two brothers who are, in a way, rivals in many ways... Says Variety critic Jay Weissberg:

The role of Accio, all nervous energy bundled around a winning warmth, is tailor-made for Germano ("Napoleon and Me"), who's never been so appealing. He's perfectly cast against reigning heartthrob Scamarcio, who puts his bedroom eyes to effective use and proves he can combine sex-symbol status with something more serious. Their semi-playful fights as kids suggest the dueling of tiger cubs -- useful training exercises to prepare them for their positions later in life.
