You should always speak your mind. I’m not interested in being one of those petulant, fuck you, eat the birds, punk rock, Avril Lavigne kids. I don’t have angst or anger, I don’t have any defense. It’s almost an intellectual attack on perception.

When I first saw Thomas Dekker in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I thought: this guy looks tough! And he should be, the role calls for it. After doing some research, it seems the guy has been in the biz for quite sometime, and I assumed he'd be like all the other Hollywood stars; do what he's told. Apparently, that is not the case, as his interview above shows.
The twenty-year old actor is already quite controversial in his own right- departing all of a sudden from the TV series Heroes, speaking out against co-stars making out, just simply being himself and not afraid to voice out his opinions- which makes him so different from those so-called stars who'll kiss ass and do what's they're told by just about anyone. |

In tMF's Top 50 most anticipated book-to-movie adaptations, City of Ember is at the top of the list. I really look forward to watching this film and seeing just how far they deviated from the novel, or how faithful they remained. What makes it even more exciting is that Saoirse Ronan (so wickedly good in Atonement) and Harry Treadaway (Control, Brothers of the Head) will play the two leads.
- - -

- - -
Jeanne DuPrau's City of Ember is the first in a series of four novels, collectively known as the Book of Ember. While both Ronan and Treadaway's characters in the books are twelve-year olds, I hope any changes they make will remain subtle and uncomplicated.

Our friends at the Twilight Lexicon informed Twilighters about our most recent poll, and in the subtlest of ways, mentioned that Kristen Stewart was on the list, and perhaps they might want to vote...
- - -

- - -
Our friends at His Golden Eyes, of course, broke the news and in normal fashion, voting for both Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed was heavy, as the fandom went in to a voting frenzy. Fans of Emma Watson also made headway, putting the young Harry Potter star into the spotlight.
As might be expected Kristen won by a landslide. She did exactly what her co-star Robert Pattinson did in an earlier poll: dominated the competition. |

It's hard to come up with a Top Ten list, especially if you have more than 60 movies to chose from, so I though: "What the heck, I find most of them so amazing anyway - great storyline, fantastic cast, awesome directors - why not do a Top Ten list thrice?" That's why this is just Part I.
... and if you want, you may vote for the one movie you look forward to the most this year and the next... [ we'll have the poll ready in a jiffy! ]
More from tMF! We have two articles coming up which feature today's emerging talents. One is appropriately entitled 'On the Verge', and we're counting down the 30 most promising young actors right this minute. Also, there's a more serious article on how Hollywood seems to prefer casting foreign actors instead of 'home-grown' talent...

Get Smart is a film that’s smart in its approach to the genre it is supposedly spoofing. It avoids the vulgar comedy, old routines and bad acting that the “spoof” genre is rightfully known for, and instead, cashes it in for believable characters, a good story and silly humor that actually works without having to be being forced down your throat. Hatching what seems to be a James Bond-esque plot that proves to be a distant cousin of those films, it delivers goofy, yet realistic humor reminiscent of the 1960s television series it lays claim to. |

Hallam Foe, the new film by David McKenzie, is destined to surpass even our biggest expectations. With an exciting mix of sights and sounds, thrills and chills, and surprising twists and turns, it is a modern take on the coming-of-age genre that only McKenzie can deliver. With an amazing cast and an awesome soundtrack, it was premiered at the recent Berlinale to much acclaim.
A few years ago, McKenzie gave us the amazing Young Adam, featuring Ewan McGregor and the multi-talented Tilda Swinton. With its deliberately slow pace and a hypnotic and remarkable story, it is notable for the powerful and truthful performances of the actors. In Hallam Foe, we witness another film that has its own unique agenda and style. It’s like sitting down to watch the sequel of a story that still lingers up to this day. But don't get me wrong, Hallam Foe is a separate and totally engrossing film, surpassing Young Adam in many ways. |

Yes, you're right! They both played prominent roles in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! The charming heroine of JK Rowling's series is the bubbly and lovely Emma Watson who, at the age of nine, bested hundreds of aspiring young actresses to win the much-coveted role of Hermoine Granger, the most scholarly of all the young wizards. Nowadays, she is not a cute girl anymore. In fact, she has become a beautiful young woman who has captivated her share of moviegoers worldwide.

The latest buzz is that the 19-year old is about to become the next Chanel signature model. Although this news has not been confirmed (and some sites have already posted updates regarding the rumours being false), we still think she would be a great model for such an awesome fashion house!
Future movie projects are also lining up for the young Miss Watson including The Tale of Despereaux and Napoleon and Betsy.
Definitely not to be relegated to supporting roles, the rising star of French cinema Clemence Poesy is as daring as she is enigmatic!
Watson might lead the billing at the Harry Potter series, but Poesy was first to make waves in the world of fashion! As poised as a seasoned supermodel in the same league as Moss, Kass and Ward, Clemence looks mesmerizing in her fashion spreads! |

In Part 2 of our series, we put the spotlight on the movie's two main characters - Xas the angel and Sobran the French vintner.
- - -

- - -
Choosing the Actors: We were ecstatic when we heard that Gaspard Ulliel was to play Xas, an interesting and very controversial character. With the much-hyped casting news about Twilight's Edward Cullen ( Ulliel was rumoured to have been shortlisted..) being 'over and out', its nice to know that the French actor has captured a highly interesting role, and one that many of his fans will be excited about.
Equally awesome news is that Jeremie Renier will be playing Sobran Jodeau, the other lead character. |

The Movie Fanatic is now 1 year old! Celebrating tMF's first year anniversary is such an awesome feeling! From the simple idea that came to two friends to start a site dealing with indie movies and upcoming actors, tMF expanded into a fully-fledged movie news and review site in September of last year.
As it grew, we discovered that there were people willing to spend time, money and energy to help keep it in tiptop shape, and so from the initial partnership between Kat and myself, we now have Elle, Jan, Jeremy, Kelly, Deana, Rina and David working together to make tMF one of the most frequently updated and reliable movie news and review sites on the web.
In celebrating our one-year anniversary, I gathered some stats to show where tMF stands in this highly competitive movie/film niche on the web. Even though our modest growth was a bit hampered by certain serious RL issues, we still we managed to establish a few records!
Here are tMF's one-year statistical report:
| Highest daily unique visitors |
16,067 visitors ( April 17, 2008 )

There’s one scene in the newest version of The Incredible Hulk that sweeps you up to an emotional high point and just drops you, face first, without any regard. It involves a young woman and her lover in a local restaurant. The rain is pouring outside but they are getting served after closing time because they know the owner. The camera moves to woman's point of view as she stares with ecstasy at her lover while she talks excitedly to him. The camera then shifts focus beyond the lover’s head to a set of swinging doors. Another man, the woman’s former lover, comes from the swinging doors of the kitchen without knowing she’s there. The glances that the woman and her former lover exchange are beyond priceless. He leaves again so quickly that she misses the opportunity that she has been yearning for ever since he left. She says to the old owner with tears already seeping down her cheeks: “just tell me what I saw was real.” He replies with the slightest nod of his head. She exhales deeply, finally reassured hat her former lover has safely returned from wherever he was. At this point we completely forget that we’re watching a comic book movie about a gigantic green monster. |

Review by David DiMichele

Nothing in this film bears any resemblance to M. Night Shyamalans’ previous morbid and dull thriller, Lady in the Water. The Happening departs from that film and from all of the director's previous films, to focus instead on a theme that resonates deeply with our world’s current situation - terrible things happen to people but no one knows why. The result is a slowly building suspense film that binds reality and imagination together in ways that only a master bedtime storyteller could do. |

In the world of wine-makers, Sobran Jodeau is a vintner with a flourishing plantation in the French countryside. While celebrating midsummer and tasting his first produce, he encounters an angel named Xas and a complex relationship between man and celestial being begins.

Written by the award-winning New-Zealand born author Elizabeth Knox, The Vintner's Luck is one of her most popular and acclaimed novels. Hailed by critics worldwide for its originality and vision, The Vintner's Luck is now a movie directed by fellow New Zealander Niki Caro, and scheduled for release next year. Top European stars Gaspard Ulliel and Jeremie Renier play the two lead characters. The angel Xas is played by rising French star Ulliel while Renier tackles the ambitious and troubled vintner Sobran. The film also marks the return to the screen of Keisha Castle-Hughes (who plays Sobran's wife Celeste) with her mentor, Caro, who filmed her in the much-celebrated Whale Rider.
